In ya'lls honest opinion, would you stud to this king? What would you change if you wouldn't?
Thanks for commenting, I just don't want to waste time and effort on my heir if no one will stud. :D

I'm personally not a fan of the Bushveld base, so he wouldn't be the king for me.

Base aside, I'd be worried about cubs coming out muddy. Your king pops because of those two Gilded marks, but one is in a slot people would have to pay to show, and the other could not pass at all/pass in a diluted form. I've bred my girls to beautiful studs, but the kings had to many clashing colors underneath the Gild and most cubs came out looking pretty muddy :/

I think it's a strength that most of your other marks are black and white. That way if the Gild doesn't pass the cubs could still wind up with a cool mix of mottled gray, silvery, other or complementary marks. I played around with your king and, even removing some marks and messing with the dilution like the RNG does, I got some pretty cool results.

But those marks look best on a Black base. With the Bushveld base, even a cub with a high ton of marks would fail to an Oatmeal or other common color, and the cubs still come out muddy. The diluted marks looked best failing on a Black base.

That's just my personal opinion, and the RNG is always rolling the dice anyway. The king's design on his own looks great. It would look even better if you transplanted those looks onto a pie/mut gen, because something like Svelte or Shreds helps the white in his mane/coat pop, and I always prefer to stud to Pies over other muties.

TLDR: Beautiful boy on his own, but Bushveld isn't my cup of tea, and on a Golden base I'd worry about potential cubs coming out muddy.

Thanks! I've got a Frostbitten app that I was planning on using, I'll undoubtedly use that on him now that you've brought up a Black base. I like the green-based studs, but I totally get what you're talking about and that's definitely a really good point!

It's less GB for me to spend on him that way. My plan was to king him and find a Felis heir to keep his appearance on for the next crowning, something with better stats than what I've got. He's got the mane type that I like, and decent markings without me having to add too much to him. <--- My justification for buying him

Anywho, thanks so much I'm definitely gonna come back and look at this in the future too when I'm making decisions on studs!

I remember breeding to a high gilded and blue mark stud expecting gorgeous lapis lazuli cubs… and then getting muddy colors made even muddier on a brown base. My main boy has all dark gray/blue marks and a Black base, and the results when I cross him to my cream girls are… uh, pretty blah.

Your boy’s marks are so gorgeous and high saturated the Frostbitten base will compliment both him and any other cubs he has. Plus it’s a combo base, and I’m a sucker for Frostbitten.

I love that big melodramatic mane on him. And what’s most important is that you’re happy with him. I’m waiting to mut rep what will be my third king in a month, and I’m definitely sticking with that one for as long as I can. Good luck with your gorgeous boy
