((Idk if this is quite the right board but I’m not sure where else it would go LOL))

This is just for all my thoughts about how a lot of the lethal mutations would not be as lethal if the lions were in captivity.

And some other things that would potentially be very different, as this is just interesting to think about.

—————
Deaf:
This one certainly wouldn’t be, as the animal refuge (not quite a zoo? idk, you can look at the animals but they are only there temporarily until they can be released, it also doubles as a science lab for the local university ) that is near where I live actually has a deaf lion. He is pretty old and quite healthy, and is just separate from the other lions.

I’ll add more later, just wanted to go ahead and post this

I doubt many of the lethals would make it far into adulthood, even in captivity.

Cyclopia cats dont live past few days, no matter the care given, they die due to brain deformity.
Harlequin Ichtyosis is deadly even for humans, cant really help that one despite the best efforts.
Lipomatosis is basically tumors all over the body, even with surgery to remove them, the animal wont live very long with them growing over and over.
Conjoined - is still not very likely to survive; even with given proper care, the animal's own movements can lead to their death, and the body developing can go into "dead ends" due to wrong placement of things and just die from it.
Two Heads - would probably not survive; only one cat with two heads made it to adulthood, and most animals with it in cattle, sheep and cows, die in the first few days due to breathing and gulping issues.
Sirenomelia - could possibly survive with surgery, but remain disabled. And due to lion's great weight, the disability could be very hard to go around, I doubt a lion can get a wheel chair for them like dogs and cats get, its sheer weight will destroy any construct.

Cleft Palate - that one would survive in capitivity, probably the only one that could reliably live with proper care!
Deaf - yes, it wont have any issues living in a cage, but not out in reserve with other predators and big animals, sadly. Hearing for animals is a lot more important in the wild than eyesight, blind animals can survive due to sharp hearing but deaf will not hear danger coming and will not see it either, because their eyesight isnt good enough for the task of determining the danger in time.

Yeah, all the ones you listed certainly wouldn’t, I just didn’t have time to add those

It's actually really cool how much thought the game developers put into the detail of making the lethals realistic, for wild lions anyway. Mad Hyena, you're totally right about how deafness would be lethal but blindness isn't automatically a death sentence.
I just love little details like that
