At this point I doubt we'll even get to Tier 2 of the Boneyard. The mechanic of donating carcasses is just too inefficient and out of the way even with the food pit for some people imo. I have a special spot in my heart for January because my birthday is within it and some of the more naturalistic markings are very nice after the more out-there marking months of October and December.

Have no idea if the mods are going to do anything about it, imo they're better off reworking the entire pre-requisite for the food pit and boneyard. Maybe with Lioness Hunts? "X carcasses brought back from hunts?", or something like that.

I've stopped donating. As much as I want some of the decor in later tiers, with what little I can hunt in a day I don't make a dent in the percentage. All I do is remove a source of SB I could spend in the other shop. This aspect of the event needs a huge overhaul. I love decor, I decorate all my breeding lionesses, but a lot of people just..don't do that. Tier 0 has all the useful items in it so why would anyone who doesn't use much decor care?

The number of food uses needed to open the pit beyond its first tier at the very least needs to be slashed so that the people who want the higher tier boneyard items can actually get there themselves. Based on the usual number of people who go for the raffle lioness each week, there's ~7000 active members. If all of them participated in filling the food pit, it would take ~260 uses of food per person to get to T2. That's not actually much if your lionesses bring home higher use prey, but if the majority of the userbase isn't donating (as is the case) it goes from an achievable goal to an impossible task. It's only nine uses of food a day if everyone plays! You can find that much in explore with a couple bars of energy, and in carcasses that sell for nothing anyway! And if the whole community did it, we'd at least open T2. 63,000 uses of food would be donated a day.

But look what percentage the pit fills per day- 1%, 18000. Three and a half times less than if everyone chipped in. Could the handful of people donating donate more to compensate? Yes. Let's do some math. There's no such thing as half a person, so let's just say for every 1 person donating, 3 are not. If donators gave 36 uses a day instead of 9, then T2 would open by the end of the month.

However, 36 uses is a lot more. It dips into what you've hunted, sometimes is most of or all of what you've hunted if (like me) you don't play at work/school and sometimes only get in 5-6 hunts at best. If you give all your carcasses to the pit, unless you have another steady source of SB income, you lose your ability to enjoy the other shop, that has more items in it. And there you have why I and probably a bunch of other people quit donating when they saw how slowly the bar was moving. Because we don't want to donate all we can (costing ourselves SB, essentially) and not even get the damn next tier unlocked because so other people are already going [shrug] carrion shop is enough shop for me... if you can't beat 'em, join 'em so you can at least enjoy buying things from the carrion shop instead of enjoying neither shop fully. The January set up is supposed to be yay, two shops! Instead the shops compete for attention and the loser is always the boneyard.

[And again: that's just the math to get to T2. Who knows what the numbers would look like for T3 this year.]

As someone who donated once they reached a certain amount of SB from food sales last year... I haven't really done it at all this year. Too much work for too little gain, especially when there are so many other uses I have for that SB instead of dumping it into a literal pit.

I remember the GB sales going crazy last year- like 1500+ SB for 1 GB by the end of January. That spike hasn't happened yet, so it seems like the player base is definitely using their SB more this year. Probably from selling all that food they didn't donate to the pit and using it on other stuff instead.

I thought for sure at least the next tier of the pit would unlock today with the next part of the Laharu quest... but it didn't. Hopefully the staff will get the picture and unlock the whole pit by January 25. I'm sitting on SO MANY LB right now I can't use because I've had terrible rolls with the boneyard, and all the current decor unlocked is NOT my cup of tea.

For next year, though, the foodpit mechanic REALLY needs fixing. Maybe free points through hunting or events in explore? Or an incentive reward like the Festive app for gift giving in January? The playerbase has suggested so many fixes that have gone ignored this year. Or just lower those damn food amounts for the tier already? Like, I know some of the numbers in this game are wonky, but it really breaks my belief that the whole damn continent is full of starving predators when we have over a MILLION CARCASSES sitting in that pit.

It's like the June problems with the snakes and absurd base prices being ignored through the whole month all over again

I’m trying to donate to the pit and have been fairly diligent about it since the start of the event. Seeing the loss of momentum to 1% a day isn’t motivating. I simply don’t want to give up as long as some people are trying though. Personally I think the requisite is too high, as this has been a multi year issue now. I love decor too, so I would have happily anticipated more as well :(

I agree with IronicOmens, the mechanics of donating is so much of a hassle, I just can't bring myself to fight with it most of the time.

I don't need the SB from selling the food, so I would donate if it was easier. But I have a hypersensitivity to movement, so having so many page flickers makes me sick, and constantly having to go and change filters in the hoard back to show only food after donating a stack, or constantly changing pages, quickly becomes too much and I have to stop. I don't use anything outside of Tier 0, but I would donate more and help open it for others if the system was changed so I wasn't spending such a long time and getting physically ill from trying.

That's a really good point timbergray. Donating a stack resetting the filter is frustrating to me, too. Even when I was donating I was quitting before I was done because that wasted a fair amount of cumulative time.

I don't see why the food pit can't just work like bulk sell in monkey business. Ctrl-left click your way through your food items and be done with it in one page load. I honestly forgot that there was no donate area (this is my first Jan in a while) and was confused why on Jan 1st the name was not a clickable link- it makes that much more sense.

The fact that this has been happening for YEARS in a row is actually crazy. Why hasn’t anything been done about it? Have they even mentioned it in a post? It’s so frustrating because I collect decors and knowing there’s some I’ll never have access to over a design fault sucks.

They never said anything after last year as far as I know, but I might've missed it. They knew it needed revitalizing, hence the Treasure Hunting, but since that wasn't tied to the main goals it didn't do anything to ease the issues there.

i think the problem with food pit donations is that the carcasses and meat chunks you get are easily sold in bulk at MB for sb for the event

but theyre also good for donating to raise bar

and since it's very difficult for the average user to raise enough for the most expensive items, its not really worth it. at suttijata pointed out, why raise the bar past 20%? you dont really need to. no benefit. plus you get nothing for it.

this part of the event either needs adjusted or the amounts nerfed heavily imo. i am really surprised that with the population boom, its not opened faster. but also, im not surprised. esp if the goal amount was raised with player %

Thank so much for the input - you’re definitely right, food sales are huge during most of the year, the dropping food sales are complained about during this event to start with, so why would folks donate them as well??

It sounds like a big mechanic overhaul needs to be looked at.

I want only two decors and they are tier two. maybe some stuff from tier three but damn... really disappointing as I get excited for january just for those bone acessories :/ idk january is def not fun so I can't blame people skipping it, not only opening tiers is slow af but trying to get desired items sucks
