Salamander

He was exhausted. Salamander had been traveling for a good few days. He really shouldn’t have left, he felt a little like those children who threaten their parents to run away then wander for half a day until realizing that the world was much bigger than they thought it was. Well. He wasn’t like that. He was a proper definitely old enough ‘adult’. Right? Yes. Right? ….He was going to he fine. He felt somewhat terrible for leaving, what if everything went up in flames?… not literal flames thank goodness… But that also could have happened if he’d stayed. It was going to be fine though! He could make friends and allies with everyone he met, and then no trouble would come! Right? Because if he was friends with everyone, helped them all, kept them happy, then no one would get mad at him.

These were the things he pondered as he walked along. He hadn’t brought too much in terms of supplies, he was hoping that by being out alone not surrounding by people he could practice his bending more. Just keep at the basics and make sure he didn’t accidentally hurt anyone. Yes. That was the goal. Oh, and to go on a journey and maybe find some better ways to keep the peace among his family. And to not get killed… And… And… And.

The sun was high in the sky as he walked down a small dirt path that was in the middle of nowhere he had been walking for days now and he had finally found someone, another person, walking down the same path he was on. It had been cold most nights so to keep warm he would light small fires or bend flames around him as he slept. Once he saw this person he ran right up to them and introduced himself. "HELLO! My name is Atlas! Whats your name?"

He flinched and stepped back as some person came running up to him. In a panic, he completely forgot to listen to what the other kid said. He just stared blankly. What should he do? This was his chance wasn't it? A new ally, a new friend. He'd better make a good impression, and fast! What should he say? Alright, no, take a breath. Be confident.
"Hey, I'm Salamader... what're you doing out here alone? I mean- not that it's my business... just that I was, no, I mean..." He paused then plastered on a smile. "Is there anything I can help you with? I don't have really anything, but I can offer something... I promise I'm no threat, I'll do whatever it is you may require!" He rattled off the speech like he'd been planning it for a while - which he had. He thought it marked off every point.

"Nice to meet you Salamander is it ok if i call you Sal? Its just a lot easier and not a whole mouthful" he said laughing softly as he listened to the gibberish that he had just said "I'm not here to mug you silly I don't want anything at all besides a new friend it hard being the avatar in a rural place there's no one out here to talk to" he said as he snapped his finger and lit a small flame which he used to light the leaf litter that was around his feet on fire

“Oh, yeah. Of course. You can call me anything and I’ll probably respond to it…” He replied rather sheepishly, thrown off by the use of ‘silly’. He jumped back away from the flames, terrified of getting burnt by it. “You’re… you're the avatar? Really? I- I’m so sorry! Please forgive me!” He quickly bowed down, scrambling to figure out how to show respect to someone so great. “I’ll do anything to be of service to you!”

He obeyed quickly, standing up straight and at the ready. “Yes! I can do anything you need me to! Oh! Actually, I’m an earth bender… I’m not all that good at it though… I can travel with you though! Show you around! Help you out, I know all the people and places to avoid!”

“Yes! Of course, even if we don’t find any, I can go out and find some for you! Whatever you need me to do. Oh hey, this is great, isn’t it? The avatar… wow… I'm sure you'll do great." He paused for a second, glancing sidelong at his new friend. "Do you have any other plans? Like.. specific places you're headed, things you want to see, want to do? Or how about where you're from? Surely someone from your home would have gone with you so you wouldn't have been alone until now. ...If you don't mind me asking..." He couldn't help but feel a little worried about who this guy truly was. It seemed a little strange that this kid was all alone, he seemed pretty young. Maybe he was lying? Either way, it would pay off to keep this guy as a friend. For one, he could fire bend! That meant there were no more worries about being cold at night or cooking food! And, really, Salamander didn't care who this was other than if he was friendly and they could work together. And this kid seemed nice so far!

Kasumi sat with her head on her hands, staring off at the stand directly across from her. It had been such a slow day, only two customers. She let out a loud groan, letting her forehead gently hit the booth table. Working the fruit stand was absolutely boring. She could almost feel her life force draining away each second she sat there. But hey, at least Mari gave her some food at the end of the day. Over the last year, the old lady had even given her a small room to stay in at the inn she owned. “I guess I should count myself lucky.” Kasumi mumbled to herself, staring down at the cobblestone path below her. She had a place to sleep and food she didn’t have to steal, she should feel be grateful. Not to say she wasn’t, she just felt like something was missing. She was only 17, she couldn’t be retire to being a fruit vendor for the rest of her life.

"i am thinking about visiting the northern Water tribe but it might be a bit to cold for you so I can go there by myself if need be earth benders arent made for the cold yall love the dry heat of the deserts" he said smiling as he lit a spark from his finger so he could continue walking and clearing any leaf litter or Leech-a-pillars that came out to bother them as they walked to the earth kingdom

"Northern Water Tribe? Cold?" He considered for a moment. "I do love the heat, but if you wanted a companion I could go with you anyway. It would be sad to be alone again... Oh, unless you mean you don't want me to come. I'm sorry, I don't want to bother you." He eyed the fire suspiciously. "You must've done your research..."
He was a little suspicious of it all, nothing to do with this guy's character, just that fire... fire wasn't something he liked much, it always seemed too chaotic for his taste, always whirling out of control and lighting something on fire. Yeah, he'd seen fire benders before. He'd seen lava before too. Sometimes he wished he hadn't though...

"i dont mind you coming at all I just didn't want you to hurt or sick walking in the frozen tundra that is the northern Water tribe" he said smiling as he looked back at Sal before continuing walking down the path to the Earth Kingdom. "how long have you been an earth bender? was it immediate or did it come with age? my parents said that I had the firebender spark in my eyes when I was born so the knew I was going to be a fire bender but they had no clue I would be the avatar so they sent me away when the nations elders told them what I would become"

“I don’t know I guess, my parents never talked about anything like that, but most of my earlier memories involved bending. My brother was a bender too, and I learned everything from him.” He then realized how far back he had started to trail so he picked up his pace to walk side by side again. “They sent you away? That wouldn’t make any sense. Sure, now you can travel freely and learn all the elements, but aren’t they also running the risk of you getting hurt out here all alone? What if you’d had met someone who tried to kill you? Seems strange..”
