Her birth upends the royal family line at first, as she's the child of the rulers but they refuse to name her as future queen, her mother insisting on keeping niece Eeru (Marla's cousin) the future ruler. Maharlika is given some advantages to being daughter of the ruler-in-stead, though. She leads a secondary hunting party. It is this way that she stumbles onto her future mate, and parent to her one child. Her daughter stuns everyone, as the cub bears a great resemblance to the past queen Adannaya, Maharlika's grandmother.
