She entrusted control of the pride to Mnyenyekevu, her young and impressive protege. The ceremony went normally, and all was well until night struck. Mwendelezo, one of the pride's lionesses, called everyone together for a meeting. She claimed that she was the reincarnation of Matchitehew, one of the pride's long dead kings, and that he had been sent back to reclaim rule of the pride and assist Apedemak in his corporeal missions once again. Confused, Mnyenyekevu stepped forward and tried to calm down the seemingly erratic lioness. A blinding light filled the pride's camp clearing, and in the blink of an eye, the two had merged. The result was a slightly larger version of Mwendelezo with Mnyenyekevu's black patches rippling across her shiny, immense coat. The body seemed to be struggling with holding itself together, and in some places the skin had sloughed off within just moments of the merge. A cloak dripping with dark fog materialized over the open wounds, but there was no hiding the blood oozing from its underside and orifices, staining the singed grass below it. When the chimera's mouth opened, two voices rang from its horrendous maw: the smooth, confident, and unfamiliar voice of the ancient king Matchitehew, and the fearful squeak that was now Mnyenyekevu. "Apedemak has fused me with this body and granted me its power and grace." It said, its glowing eyes scanning over its new yet old pride with a smug look. "Over time, the old consciousness will seep away into nothing, and I will serve as this pride's ultimate master once more."
