Isampú's Den

The lions of the greater Comoé Pride live within the plains and forests that surround the Comoé River in northeastern Côte d'Ivoire. Legend says that the pride was united as one long ago, before the branching of the river split them among the east and west. The now-separate prides hold a truce between themselves that has allowed for peace to exist among the lions for several generations. Young lions will even occasionally cross the river to join the opposite pride during dry season, when the water level allows.

The East Comoé Pride is the more traditional and ritualistic of the two. They see the reflection of the moon and stars in the river's water as a blessing to the land and an indicator of good fortune and health. Recent changes in the river caused by climate change and pollution has led to great worry among the eastern lions for the future of their land.
