I haven't posted in a while and it might be a while more. One of my guinea pigs died and because a vet never caught on to why he was always getting sick. He had a reaccuring case of pneumonia so we had to put him down because it would be to expensive, to painful and to long to treat.

He probably had it since birth. It's an illness they catch in guinea pig mills.

Don't buy pets from Petco/Petsmart. They come from animal mills and are just as bad as puppy mills. But they don't get any spot light. And what regulation they're supposed to have is very poor.

The average lifespan of a healthy guinea pig should be between 6-8/9 years. Don't believe any place that says 3.

I had the exact same issue when I had guinea pigs. I actually did try to save them with medicine, by they died anyway. You made the right decision by ending his suffering as hard as it must have been. I'm sorry for your loss. :(

I actually found mine outside. Someone dumped a whole family and they were living in my neighbor's backyard. She caught them for me and I kept them. One of them was actually born outside I think and was feral. I had to tame him. It was pretty hearbreaking when they passed away.

Petsmart/Petco are the shittiest pet companies ever. They don't treat any of the animals right and they give out false information about hermit crabs and lizards etc. just to sell them. They suck major ass.
