Adrienne said nothing, as she sat at her usual table in the comer of the table. It was isolated and nobody else decided to sit there, and to be honest, that was how Adrienne liked it. She didn't need people nor did she want them. Humans brought nothing but emotion, and by now Adrienne wante anything but. She didn't want to care or hate or even love. She like the cold and stoic person she was. Adrienne never said much but often made some of the best grade, probably due to the fact she had done the class four times over, coning years later every time to a different. This school was actually the first high school Adrienne had ever come to, when she was a mortal, a fragile human. But now she was the strongest thing on Earth, and she didn't come here to think of her old memories like some might think. No, she came to prove that she didn't need these memories and no longer cared for them. This was the school she went to when her parents died and she became the monster she was. The monster who lusted after blood and wasn't afraid to compel to get what it wanted. People either didn't know about her or feared her, and she hated what she had become, but did she really have a choice?

Though being, over a hundred years old, Adrienne still had her looks from the 1800s though she had changed them over time to now fit the new modern. Her honey colored brown hair, that used to curl below her ear was now wavy almost touching the middle of her back and shaped her face perfectly. Back then a woman had little makeup but now in this time they wore makeup such as eyeliner and lipstick and blush all the time though Adrienne never applied it herself. Instead of big, poofy dresses, she now wore jeans and t shirts everyday. Her once perfect sky blue had turned into a pale grey color. She had changed so much.

Not only did she change in appearance but to who she was too. Adrienne used to be a sweet and caring girl but after becoming a vampire, a monster, and losing everyone she ever loved, she became cold and distant and never really cared for anyone else again. Now instead of the meals she used to love so much, she lusted after blood from humans, her prey. And if she wasn't careful, veins would appear under her eyes, and her fangs would come out, meaning she was prepared to sink her teeth in and feed. She could never show that side of herself to anyone or people would know vampires were real.

Adrienne could feel a familiar pair of eyes trained on her and once again turned to look at one single person at table nine. Samuel Winters, one of the smartest guys at school though it wouldn't be easy to guess because of his looks. Many thought you could only have brains or beauty, but they were wrong. Samuel somehow had both. He was quite smart but had a head full of dark brown curls and beatific caramel colored eyes and a killer dazzling smile that girls died for. It was a stereotype that boys couldn't be nice looking and smart, and Samuel proved them wrong.

Often, Adrienne could feel his eyes upon her, and she never did look at him because she thought he would simply look away, but it had been weeks and for some reason this mortal had found curiousity in Adrienne. It annoyed her and fascinated her at the same time. What could he possibly want with her? And why couldn't he just come over and ask her if he did want it? But he never did, and Adrienne didn't think he ever would. But she would. She needed these stares to stop and had to get to the bottom of this.

Adrienne connected her eyes with Samuel's, making full eye contact before gesturing her head to the door, that led outside of the cafeteria. Grey eyes met caramel, and Adrienne knew he understood before she pushed out her chair and walked out, swinging open the door and walking down the hallway. She made a left turn into a secluded row of lockers before listening intently for his footsteps with her advanced hearing, and it wasn't too long before his footsteps could be heard. When he came over the corner, their eyes connected again before Adrienne growled and looked away, at the lockers. "You need to stop," she basically commands the boy in a cold and unemotional voice.

Sam loathes school, and he loathes his classes, and his locker, and his teachers, and the drive here. In fact, the only thing he really doesn't hate is lunchtime. It's the only time he gets to sit with his friends and play iPhone games without being scolded or sent to the office. That's more than enough to make up for the strangely monochrome and gloopy meals they're fed everyday.

Not to mention, of course, the pretty girl who sits at a table not far from his. He'd first noticed her a little while ago, and he's been curious ever since. Her hair is a warm brown, wavy and smooth, and her eyes are an enchanting gray. They remind him of the fog that rolls off of the sea in the mornings, mysterious and heavy. He might have maybe sort of developed a small crush.

The only problem is that she always sits alone, and he finds himself wondering if she doesn't like people, so she might not approve of any advances he would be make to be her friend. But maybe she just has a hard time making friends? So shouldn't he at least try to say hi or something? His father always told him to take chances, or he'd regret it later. If it didn't work out, okay, but at least you know for certain. So he's going to try to be her friend, and if she rebuffs him, okay, and he'll leave her alone.

He's caught up in these thoughts when she turns around and locks those brilliant gray eyes with his, motioning towards the cafeteria doors. His heart jumps into his throat, nearly choking him. What is she, a mind reader? Has he done something wrong? He hasn't ever talked to her, so...But maybe she noticed his staring? God, he was staring, wasn't he? He's such a stupid kid. Feeling his face start to warm, Sam excuses himself from his table a few minutes after she's left, weaving his way towards the doors.

But maybe this is his chance? He tries to bolster his spirits as he searches for her. Maybe she's not mad at him? He can still try to be her friend, right? Unfortunately, those hopes are crushed as he steps around a corner and greets her with his eyes. She looks away from him, and when she speaks, her voice is frozen and unhappy.

Wincing, Sam tries to save himself some humiliation. "Stop what?" he asks. He's got a good idea what she's talking about, but he wants to be sure.

Adrienne looked at Sam and could see why girls were always all over him. His farm brown, curly locks and caramel colored eyes would make any other girl fall at her feet in front of him, but Adrienne wasn't just any girl. She was different in a way that none of them could guess. She had a thirst for human blood.

There were two reasons why Adrienne didn't like to go to high school and had come only four times in her longer than most existence. One reason was that it was hard for her to control her thirst around others. It took almost every fibre in her being since most times she wasn't usually around others. Adrienne had to really concentrate, and that took almost her full attention. Anything that was left was for the teachers and the classes.

The second reason Adrienne didnt bother coming to high school was because of boys like Sam, who somehow managed to have affections for her, or a crush as they said in these days. She didn't understand how though. She tried to be distant and quiet so none of them liked her, but it happen at every school. Was it her looks? If it was, she was getting nose surgery, contacts, and a new hairstyle.

Being this close to Sam in a secluded place was a bad idea. She could smell the blood, running all around her body, and could hear it traveling through his veins and wanted badly to drain his body of blood but instead looked away and held her breath since that always seemed to help. "Staring at me," she answers, clenching her fists. For such a smart boy, he was pretty shallow. "Those longing looks need to stop. If you have something to say to me, just say it."

Taken aback by her bluntness, Sam drops his eyes to his feet and shuffles them awkwardly. "They're not longing looks," he protests weakly. Of course, they are, but he can't admit that to her, can he? She probably thinks he's some kind of pervy kid. Ugh, and now she definitely won't want to be friends with him. Has he ruined his chances? Probably. Is he still going to try?

Well, don't ever let it be said that Samuel Winters is a quitter. Taking a deep breath to steel himself, Sam drags his eyes from the squeaky linoleum floors to look at the girl again. What's her name, anyway? He's shocked to discover that he doesn't know. He's been watching her so much, and he's just defaulted to calling her The Girl in his head. That almost makes him want to hang his head again. Is he really that shallow of a guy, wanting to be friends with a girl just because she's pretty?

Well, he'd be a liar if he said that wasn't part of the reason. He's not honorable enough to say otherwise. But it's not solely her looks. She just seems so...lonely. It makes Sam's heart ache for him. He remembers being lonely, when he was a child. Since his father was a military man, they were uprooted several times in his childhood, and he never could make friends for very long. That's why he started playing video games so much. He could take them with him, and they never left, and they were predictable and safe. All things that Sam enjoyed very much.

So he doesn't want this girl to be lonely, if he can help it. Maybe she'll like video games? Maybe she'll be friends with his friends? Maybe--but not, of course, until he tries to defuse this argument. He really doesn't need her thinking he's such a creep. "I'm sorry if I bothered you," he says, smiling apologetically and rubbing the back of his neck. "You just looked really lonely at your lunch table. I was wondering if you maybe wanted to come sit with me? My friends are kind of loud, but they're really not that bad once you get to know them."

Adrienne scrunches up her eyebrows, so that they knitted together, almost looking as if she had a unibrow. Did he really just invite her to eat at her table? A shiver ran down her spine, as her ears began to pick up on the rapid beating of his heart that signaled he was getting anxious or nervous. Adrienne thinks its the latyer, as she looks at his chest, the place where all of the blood was going. She took in a deep breath, as the scent infiltrated her nose. Her eyes quickly darted away, as she looked at the lockers again.

Adrienne knew she couldn't sit at a lunch table with different people, especially loud ones. Adrienne never ate human food, and chances were they would pick up on that. That and the fact, that at any moment she could break, and drain someoone of their blood before snapping their neck. No amount of holding her breath could assure her that she wouldnt kill, and the last thing she needed to do was reveal herself and cause a scene.

"No," Adrienne answers, her grey eyes connectioning with his brown eyes, as she held he breath as best she could while talking. Her voice was cold and spiteful, and her eyes were so tense. If looks could kill, poor Sam would be on the ground, unmoving. "I dont do friends. I dont need them!" She snaps, keeping her voice low.

And it was true, Adrienne didnt have friends. What was the point? Why get attached to a human just so they can die in a few years and leave her all alone again? Then she would be heartbroken, and Adrienne mever wanted to feel that way again. Not after her parents. And Adrienne wasn't evil enough to damn another's soul and force them to have the life that was focrced onto her.

She looked at Sam, her jaw tensed. "Anything else?"

Sam feels himself shrinking as she speaks, her voice colder than a winter dawn. His shoulders hunch, drawing up towards his ears, and his eyes drop to study his orange Charizard shoes. Guilt sinks in behind his ribcage, thick and dark, and he doesn't know why. The way she speaks makes him feel like the lowest of the low, and he hates it. Listening to her words doesn't seem like an option, with the bite in her voice, but he forces himself to. He'd be an idiot to end a conversation just because someone's voice seemed snappish.

When he actually listens to what she's saying, he can make himself feel better. She doesn't need friends? Now, Sam's no phycologist, but he knows that's not true. Everybody needs friends, right? Someone to laugh with, to tease, to relax around? A shoulder to cry on? How can you be okay without that? Surely she's just saying that because she's never had a friend before? So--so what should he do? Classes in school have never prepared him for this.

He can't keep pressuring her to be his friend, because that would be rude. He can't just leave her alone, because that would be pointless. So what can he do? She gives him an opening to speak, and he finds himself frozen. He has to work to get his jaw to function correctly, and then he pulls his eyes up to meet hers again, as confidently as he can after her tongue-lashing.

"Not really," he says. "I understand if you don't like me, now, and I don't want to push you anymore, but--well, if you ever change your mind, the offer stands. You don't have to be alone." He smiles as sweetly as he can--the smile that his mother has always could break hearts. He hopes it's true, now. "I can always find a place for you with me, 'kay?"

Adrienne felt her nose scrunches up as she at the teenge boy in front of her. She was really confused. She didn't understand why he was being so nice to her. Hadn't she just basically told him to beat it?, yet he still offered to hang out with her? He must really think he was all that. Maybe he didn't understand that Adrienne simply didnt want to hang out with him or be any where near him for that thought.

Suddenly, Andrienne felt a vein begin to form on her eye. It was faint, too faint for a human to see. It was the beginning of her fangs, letting her know how hungry she was. Adrienne looked at Sam, and everything seemed to have intensified. His heart beat began to pound louder, the blood rushing louder, the smell of blood wafting to her nose began to get stronger.

How long had it been since she had eaten? Adrienne could remember she ha drained a deer maybe three days ago. Three days! Thats why she was so hungry. It had been too long. She needed food, and at the momemt it looked like Sam was a bloodbag on feet.

She couldn't take much longer. Adrienne hesitantly reached her fair had out, as she put it on his shoulder before liftig it to lay feather light touches on his neck, the area where the most vein were. The area where if he bit, blood would come into her mouth, and she wanted that so much. But she knew she couldn't have. Adrienne refused to kill him or even drink a bit of his blood for her own selfish needs. She quickly withdrew her hand hand.

"I need to go," she says quickly, her voice strangled, as she turned on her heel, heading toward the nearest exit door which wasnt far before throwing them open and breathing in the fresh air.

Sam is almost certain that he's going to be chewed out again, from the way her nose wrinkles. He knows that expression. It's the same one his little sister uses when he sets a plate of vegetables in front of her, disgusted and confused. Why would he do that her? It's good for her, he'll insist, but does he really have the right to do the same thing to people the same age as him? He doesn't think so, but here he is, doing it anyway.

Determined to back off and give her space, Sam starts to turn back down the hallway when her hand touches his shoulder. He flinches, startled. Is she going to hit him? What's she doing? When her hand traces is neck, his breathing gets shallower. The way she looks at him seems almost predatory. When she speaks, excusing herself, her voice is choked and strange. What's wrong with her?

He watches her hurry down the hallway, and he considers leaving her alone. That's what she wanted, right? What right does he have to keep bothering her? But at the end, there, she acted kind of sick. What if she's throwing up or something, and he just abandons her? He couldn't bear the guilt, and so he jogs after her. He'll just look and see if she's alright. If she's not, he'll take her to the nurse, and if she is, he'll leave her alone. Easy.

Being outside soothes him some. There's less pressure here, away from the school, and more room to run if he needs to. He finds the girl nearby, and he moves towards her as carefully as he can. "Hey, I'm sorry. I know I keep bothering you, and it might be stupid, but--are you okay? You kind of rushed off and I didn't want to just leave if you were sick, but I totally will if you want me to."

Adrienne likes the warmth that the sun provides on her fair skin, mostly because she isn't usually warm anymore. It was another side affect of being what she was. A monster. A vampire. It was one of the things she hated. Even as a human, a mortal, she would have preferred being hot over cold anyday, and it was no different now.

She hardly registered Samuel's voice behind her, as she tried to zone in on any sound she could that would show her the way to where any type of prey was for her. And then she heard it. It was faint, so faint, no human woul hav heard it, and she barely picked it up with her superhuman hearing. The faint sound of a bird's wings fluttering, as it flied around one of the trees nearby but which one? She turned her head and her focus quickly zoomed in on a tree not far from the school.

Without thinking, Adrienne jumped, her vampire abilities giving her the ability to jump more than fifty feet in the air, as she landed on one of the higher branches in the tree, exactly where the bird was located. She grabbed it with her hands, quickly before allowing veins to appear underneath her eyes, fully as dark as they were, and her fangs began to appear. She didn't think twice before sinking her teeth into the poor, defenseless animal, draining the blood from its little body. After a small squeak, it was dead, drained, lifeless. It wasn't much, but it should be enough to get Adrienne through the rest of the day.

Adrienne threw the body into a nearby branch before standing up and jumping down from where she was on the tree. The fall was short, and her feet barely made a sound, as they touched the ground. The veins disappeared as well as her fangs, as she looked up at Sam, her eyes connecting with his. He had seen her. He knew.

The girl doesn't answer him, and his concern grows. "Hey," he starts, stepping closer to her, "are you sure you're okay?" The words have hardly left his mouth before she's twisting her head like a listening predator, searching the treetops. He follows her gaze and sees nothing but branches and birds. When he looks back, she's almost fifty feet in the air. He blinks once, twice, and rubs his eyes. When he looks again, she's perched in the tree, and her mouth is pressed against a bird.

What? Just--just what?

She throws the body away from her and jumps back down, glancing towards him. There are veins under his eyes, and fangs in his mouth, but they disappear when their eyes meet. Sam gapes at her, utterly confused. What the hell? Is he sick? Is he hallucinating?

"What?" he asks her, staring, like he thinks she'll say that he was just seeing things. Oh, and he really, really wishes she would. Vampires aren't real, right? Or werewolves, or demons? So what is she? What could she even be? If those things are real, then his whole world gets turned on its head.

So he had to be seeing things. He had to. And yet, he knows he's not, but if she said he was, he would've believed her to spare his sanity. "What was that?"

Adrienne let a deep breath consume her body, as she looked at the teenage boy in front of her. His hands seemed to shake, as his bottom lip quivered. Sam was even starting to look pale, his caramel brown eyes, searching her, almost as if desperately wishing she would say all of this was fake, that she had pulled a prank on him. But Adrienne knew she couldn't do that. She wouldn't because she may be cold, but she wasn't a liar. She was an honey person, vampire or not.

It was her fault. She knew this, as Samual struggled to form words, as he stared at her. She hadn't been careful enough which was obvious to her now. It was all we fault. Adrienne was already hungry, having not eaten for three days and could have surely drained everybody in there. And then she had led this poor boy outside of everyone else in the cafeteria to confront him before she thought about drinking his blood. How stupid could she get? Then she ran out here, practically flaunting her vampiric abilities to this boy, and now he knew. Or at least he had seen and could probably guess what she was. A vampire.

Adrienne bit her bottom lip, looking away from him, -as her nose scrunched and her eyebrows knitted together. What was she supposed to do now? She wouldn't lie about what he had seen, how could she? He had seen it with his own eyes. And Adrienne knew she wasn't supposed to tell Samuel the truth. It was against the code, yet there was no other option. She couldn't just leave him, so he could tell her secret to the world. Adrienne would have to tell him the truth and be as vague as possible.

She knew telling him here, wasn't a good idea, not when anyone could be listening at any moment. No where near here was safe. But Adrienne did know one safe place. Her own home. She looked at Sam, at his trembling figure, and decided that would have to do. "How do you feel about skipping school?"

Before Samuel could reply, Adrienne picked Samuel up, throwing him on her back, before running. She felt the wind blowing through her hair, as he went more than 110 miles per hour, trying to get home a fast as possible, avoiding any roads and sidewalks until she came to her house in the middle of a small meadow where forests surrounded. It was hard to find unless someone knew exactly what they were looking for. She liked it like this, secluded, so no one could find her.

It wasn't a big house, small with only one bedroom, a kitchen, a living room, an extra room, and a bathroom inside and outside of the bedroom. Small but cozy, as the mortals said.

Adrienne dropped Samuel heading towards her small house, holding the door open, as he turned back to look at him, seeing him frozen in place. She sighed and rolled her eyes. "Are you coming in?" She asks, exasperately, already beginning to get impatient.
