Big Back-End Changes We have spent a lot of time changing around how markings are stored. From a member point of view, this should be reflected in the speed of searching for lions with specific markings in trades, or loading lion pages, or breeding lions. The main reason we have done this is for server health and website optimisation. Previously we were storing markings as text format in specified fields which can be very heavy on the server when searching and using them. They are now stored by ID which is why, if you encountered Gorilla Enclave bugs earlier today, you would have been asked to find lions with a "123" rather than "Marking Name" marking. Storing markings this way also allows us to be a lot more flexible in the number of markings each lion has... Marking Slots Nice segue, right? All lions up until today have had 10 marking slots. This will not change - the base number of marking slots a lion starts out with will always be 10. We have, however, introduced the ability to add more marking slots to your lions. Up to 20, in fact! Each marking slot costs 1GB to add to each lion. You can use standard marking applicators as usual on the new slots, but the extra slots won't show up in the applicator dropdown until they have been added to your lion. You can add slots on your lion's page in the "Appearance" section, and also see how many slots you currently have. What if I breed lions which have different amounts of slots unlocked? Say you breed your king, who has 15 slots open with markings in all slots (what would that look like?) to a lioness with just her 10 standard slots - can the cub inherit the markings in the extra slots the king has? Yes, absolutely. However as stated above, all lions will start off with the base 10. The cub may inherit a marking in slot 12 - but it will be hidden until slot 11 and 12 have been unlocked on the cub. Cubs cannot however inherit markings that are hidden on their parents. Cub can only inherit markings in slots 11-20 if parents have them unlocked. Will there be hidden markings on NCLs? For Dreamboats, NCLs have a chance to come with a hidden marking in a slot between 11-14. The slots will not be revealed right away, so you would need to unlock the slots leading up to where it's hidden. Will we know which slot the hidden marking is on? Yes - if there is a hidden marking present, you will be alerted under the list of visible markings. You will be told exactly what slots the markings are on, just not which markings are hidden.
You can choose to never unlock it, it's up to you! NOTE - HIDDEN MARKING WILL NOT SHOW UP ON THE LION'S LOOKS UNTIL YOU UNLOCK IT. How to add slots? You can add slots on Lion's page, in Oasis right away during customizing, and also in wardrobe when checking out new looks!
NOTE - Marking Applicators will only show slots 11-20 to apply a marking if they are unlocked. Wardrobe does not take GB for adding slots! We fixed that visual bug. We believe this will solve mane markings taking precious slot space! MINI-FAQ Q: What happens when I retire my king with extra slots? A: If you keep your king's looks, you keep king's slots. If you keep cub's looks, you keep cub's slots. Q: What markings NCL's have in hidden slots? A: Usual ones, although during NCL events they might also have event markings! Q: Are rosettes prone to appear in hidden markings on their own? A: Yes! Q: Will extra slots affect studding price? A: Yes.

I don't like the idea of these additional slots. There will be a lot of hidden markings (studs and lionesses) and we need to spend 10 GB just to have a cub's slot 20 marking? Seriously?! @Shiny 15 would be okay but i think 20 is really kinda..? Plus now people will just put markings over more markings and make huge money grab studs with no real theme or nice flow to their colors... And i really would rather not inbreed my ladies to my king because i can't find a stud that doesn't have every RMA mark or Cheetah mark etc 0 players like this post! Like? |

I have to agree with some of the things that have been said about the marking expansion, particularly about the price. A few seperate slots for mane markings, preferably with an SB price on them, would have been a smoother, less "pay-to-win" thing to add and was what the community has been asking for. That being said, I can see that the Admins have put plenty of thought into this. The first 10 slots (on a stud especially) will definitely be much more valuable than any additional ones and the change allows people to add mane markings without having to use up those valuable 10 slots. And because markings are hereditary (except for rosettes) there's no mystery behind hidden slots when they're on a cub. It's only NCLs that are a question mark, and since those marks aren't highly prized, there isn't any point in using up GB to unveil them except possibly during events with special NCL markings. The fact that the extra marks don't show on cubs is also a good bit of foresight by staff, I think. If they did, the cubs of studs with extra markings would be far more valuable than those born to those that can't afford them. There's no way to know that that won't still happen yet, but my feeling about it at this point is positive. A scrying stone for the marks is going to be a must, though in my opinion. Realistically, few people will spend any GB to satisfy a curiosity about something they know is so likely to turn out to be worthless. In that way, the mystery behind it is relatively harmless. But markings are already confusing and hard for newbies (and even some non-newbies) to keep up with, so I think scrying would be a considerate addition as well as just being practical. It would provide a small SB sink too. All in all, a welcome addition, provided that as a 'luxury' it doesn't become too overvalued...We'll have to see. :) Thanks for getting the site running more smoothly guys. I was excited at first for new marking slots... Once the math of how much that would cost in real life money, every DAY... I realized that this is not a good pricing plan. I understand the need to bring in revenue, and I am totally in favor of making this an add-on that you pay GB for... but the current plan would require you to pay real life money for EVERY lion with ONE extra slot, much less ALL of them... and the Lions DIE. They make offspring, whose markings you won't be able to see unless you pay even MORE.... so hey, you have these lions, but you can't even SEE the markings, unless you pay up several dollars to the game= to /temporarily/ have access to it on ONE lion's extra marking(s)- until it dies, and you've blown that money because you have to pay AGAIN for it's offspring to have those markings show. This is not just Unfair, it's punitive. It punishes players who cannot afford to pay tons of money, by shelling out a part of the game (markings) that is normal and a large part of the GOAL of the game (breeding).... and it's not even permanent. You pay, then it just.... goes away. A giant black hole of GB that you cannot ever hope to regain, because no one will pay GB for a cub with 11 marks that you have to pay 1 GB to SEE the marking anyway. In fact, if you could pay say, 10-20 GB to unlock slot 11 forever on your account, this would BECOME a goal of players. This slot would then be visible on ALL your lions, on your entire account. You would literally work to earn or buy those GB outright, and you'd be gaining a larger range of game play... if you cannot buy them, you'd have to save SB to use at the GB sales section to buy GB with those... you'd have a WAY to earn it, even if it was hard. Please, PLEASE reconsider this payment scheme. It's not a good one. I would slowly become frustrated with lions who have "extra" markings that I can never see or show, or sell (because if you cannot SEE them, how will you know the person isn't lying about what they have?) and never profit from it enough to benefit from the extra making anyway.... on EVERY LION? As the population of more-than-ten marked lions grow, I, and many other players, would probably play less and less, and eventually stop playing, in favor of games that let you pay to open slots of good things on the ACCOUNT, not the individual animal- and worse when that animal is going to die of old age anyway, and won't have the thing unlocked in it's offspring, so what would the POINT of playing with, or breeding those extra slots at ALL?
