Below the list of the total number of lions in your cave there is a button that says 'move lions.' It brings up the check boxes and you can shuffle your lions however you like using it-- the checkboxes go away once you exit the den or click the button that says 'stop moving lions' (in the same location as the 'move lions' button). Support the feature multiple lions, though :P
