The Journey Home
photo-1536511772531-37e9b8e4e45c?ixlib=rb-1.2.1&ixid=eyJhcHBfaWQiOjEyMDd9&auto=format&fit=crop&w=2700&q=80

Months have passed since the humans have fled the city. They left overnight, speeding off in their vehicles and taking all of their belongings with them. Everything except for their pets. The land became a dog-eat-dog territory, with once-precious pets fighting tooth and claw for their lives. For the first few months there was nothing but bloodshed, the sounds of vicious fights ringing around every corner. Now, however, things are beginning to balance out. The weakest of the pets left in the city have died off, leaving the rest to pick up the pieces and attempt to pull their lives back together. Different packs have formed, laying claim to separate parts of the city and managing to live in relative peace.

But whispers are spreading throughout the community - rumours of a quarantine facility just over the state border, where the humans are still alive. A small group of dogs, former pets, have gathered, the rumours sparking a hope that their owners may still be out there somewhere.

They aim to journey to this facility together and reunite with their families, but they face a long, perilous road ahead of them. They’ll have to cross through parts of the city claimed by vicious packs, and forests where wild animals have been thriving long before the humans left. Even if they manage to evade their predators, threats such as fatigue and starvation still lurk menacingly in every shadow. With the stakes so high, will the dogs band together and try to get the entire group to the facility alive? Or will the dangers get to them first, driving the dogs to turn on themselves, sacrificing others in the group to ensure their own survival?

Rules
↪ All Lioden RP rules apply.
↪ This roleplay is semi-literate. Each post should be at least six sentences long, using proper grammar and spelling.
↪ For the sake of the plot, I ask that everyone only start with one character. One of the factors which make the journey so dangerous for our characters is the fact that they are such a small group, and wouldn't be able to compete with the other packs in the city.
↪ No perfect characters, please! Your characters should have room for development within the plot.
↪ If a fight breaks out in RP I will roll a die for the outcome, unless you and the owner of the other character have discussed and agreed upon the outcome prior. Don't worry, your character cannot be killed/seriously maimed without your permission!
↪ I want to keep this roleplay active, so please notify me if you're not going to be able to post for a while! After three days of not hearing from you on the OOC or roleplay thread, I will PM you asking if you're still interested. If I don't receive a reply within two days of sending the message, your characters will be removed.
↪ No arguing; fights may break out in the roleplay, but when speaking to people OOC, treat them with respect.

Blackbeard | Male | Giant Schnauzer | 8 Years
Mention(s): Everyone

Dutch's confidence was contagious, and Blackbeard felt his tail (or what remained of it) give a determined shake, if only for a single moment. Seeing a dog so unbeaten by the somewhat hopeless situation they were in felt inspiring, like a beacon in the dark, beckoning those that were lost and giving them a purpose. Blackbeard certainly felt more purposeful, now that he had a pack to protect and potential lead to Henry. The idea that winter was close on their heels bothered him none, for he had enough fur to last him a lifetime, though it still loomed over the rest of the dogs like a cold, frosty shadow.

Despite originally intending to keep his introduction short and sweet, it appeared that Erebe had already beaten him to the punch. He expected that Dutch would become lost if the entire group replied in the same manner, so he decided to throw him a bone, so to speak. "The name's Blackbeard," He announced gruffly, "At your service." Blackbeard brandished the police badge on his collar, finishing with a curt nod. The display wasn't to show off, far from it - he fully intended to serve the dog who could right such an upside down world, even if it meant putting himself on the line in the process.

↞ { Alistair } ↠
Male • 5 Years Old • Borzoi
Mentions: Everyone

Alistair's intense gaze remained locked on Dutch as he spun quite the tale, brightening with interest as he spoke of seeing living, breathing humans heading to a fixed destination. It was promising, and this might explain why he hadn't found any lingering within the city or even the surrounding wilderness outside the metropolis' walls. Still, he could feel an inkling of doubt cautioning him against putting too much faith in the words of a stranger. He would make this journey with the expectation of failure to avoid setting his hopes too high. "What condition were they in?" He spoke at last, his skepticism clear. "How did they respond to seeing you? Were they healthy? It seems odd they would travel alone, did you notice anything off about them?"

He wanted every detail Dutch could give, but he knew regardless of the answer he would follow him. There was no turning back now that he was here. So much was at stake, he wouldn't be welcome back if things turned out wrong. The gravity of his decisions weighed on him heavily, this was such a reckless choice to make when he expected nothing to come from it, but damn if he didn't feel alive for the first time in a long time. "If this mission fails you'll be losing more than just your tail so I truly hope you're being forthcoming," he remarked as an afterthought, voice dropping into a growl. "Some of you may know of me already. If not, I'm Alistair," he added curtly as an introduction, not paying the other dogs much mind beyond that.

Dino
| Female | 4 Years Old | Mix-Breed |

Mentions | Everyone

Dino tried to soothe herself down her ears still perked up attentively listening to the other dogs, her excitement slowly dying as she waited for an answer, she plumped down, her tail lowered but still wagging playfully as she finally managed to stare away from Dutch, his loud barked helped of course catching her off guard.

Before introducing herself she waited for the others still eyeing them from afar her eyes glistened as they said their names and nodding after each one as she wanted to remember their names. "You can call me Dino." She barked softly while her grin came back to her face.

Inca
Female | 3 Years | White German Shepherd
Mentions: Everyone

Inca’s only sharp-toothed smile flashed at the Groenendael, her own impish glint, before her gaze buried into the Pharaoh Hound’s figure. It seems as though they shared the same thought. Inca caught the drifting mien, bouncing between a smirk and a grin. Inca gave the hound a wink in response, a chuckle bubbling in her chest. Keen eyes slipped from the serpentine figure to roam some more, following the fractured bits of her own thoughts.

The elder dog and her Alpha - former Alpha - brought up good points. They were wise enough, and cautious enough, to ask such questions, to doubt, to suspect. Inca had no such wisdom, only love for Isabella and Trinity and hatred for the world that had taken from her more than once. Inca knew she’d follow behind this Mad Hound — Dutch — until her paws were no more than bloody nubs beneath her. Hope was a powerful thing, and she still had the capacity for it. She’d milk it for all its worth, just to get her family back.

“I’m Erebe.”

Such simple words, for such a mystery solved. Inca herself had asked around to get the female’s name, but everyone seemed about as lost as she was on the topic. With a flick of her ears, she locked onto the introductions and stapled names to faces. She clicked her tongue at Alistair, though, like some disappointed mother. As if he had to solidify the threat. Sure, hers was more playful, but once her teeth meet their mark, it becomes a lot less friendly.

“I’m named Inca.” She gave a dramatic flare: a playful bow and a wink. “A pleasure to meet you all.”

Captain
Female | 8 | Doberman
Mentions: Everyone

She turned from dog to dog, listening as they all introduced themselves. First, a golden pharaoh hound, Erebe. Captain could already tell she would be trouble, reminding her vaguely of a fox, sleek, shit-eating grin, and aware of their cleverness. Then Blackbeard, and he was exactly how he seemed, maybe even someone Captain could tolerate. His introduction was a little much, and it gave her the impression of submission. She’d tolerate him, but respect him, maybe that would take a while.

The one that shocked her the most, and almost made the others go unnoticed, was one of the city dog Alphas, standing right here before the mad hound, ready to follow him. She almost recoiled in, in what she wasn’t sure, but she caught herself anyway, keeping her steely composure. He seemed distant, like what was around him didn’t matter, only that they begin moving. perhaps she was projecting, but she did agree with the thought.

The last two, a puppy almost, and a pretty white female really made this group more colorful to Captian’s disbelief. Really, it couldn’t be any worse. Dino, she knew was already excitable, and even though it reminded her of Bullet, she turned away in distaste. Inca, was similar to Erebe in a way, and Captain didn’t miss the look in Inca’s eyes at Erebe’s name. She was a theatrical one, which Captain was sure she didn’t like.

Either way, these dogs, from all kinds of backgrounds and personalities, was what she was stuck with to help her find Bullet. She took one last glance around, jumping from dog to dog, giving them a good look over. Hoping they were as useful as they seemed to be, then took in a steady breath.

“Captain.” She finally said.
