This is an official clan thread for the Giving Tree Clean-Up Crew Clan!

Lioden Giving Tree Clean-Up Crew

What is this clan for?

As of the creation of this post, there are 1010 male lion cubs in the giving tree. This is almost 10x the amount of female cubs there, and for good reason. While there are many uses for female cubs of all varieties, male cubs are generally limited to sex-changing and kingship. This means that for the average user, the standards for a male cub are much higher. Thus, a conundrum has been created. People want to get rid of the cubs so they abandon them at the tree. But nobody really wants to pick them up either, so they stay at the tree. I believe that this "landfill" of cubs will continue to grow unless we decide to do something ourselves as a concentrated group, for as far as I've noticed tree cubs do not get deleted.

Enter the Giving Tree Clean-Up Crew. This clan (created by yours truly) is dedicated to the purpose of sacrificing our daily tree slot to remove the unwanted cubs from the tree. By doing our part whenever we can, we will "clean" the tree and make it easier for people to drop actually good males for newbies and others to pick up and heir. To further this cause, those who wish to join me should follow two general principles.

Principles of the Janitorial Crew

1. As often as possible, members should strive to use their singular tree grab for a male cub or adol. What is done with these cubs is up to the player, as long as they are gone from the tree.

2. Members should refrain from worsening the problem at the tree and should actively choose not to drop male cubs unless they themselves would enjoy receiving them.

What are benefits of being part of the clan?

Technically, players could purposefully choose to help the tree on their own and do not "need" to join the clan to do so. However, this is likely a difficult choice to make as it is directly a near-daily sacrifice. To this end, I propose that if this clan gets enough members and a following, I myself will donate and also accept donations of nice-looking female cubs which will be raffled off to clan members with minimal entry fees to balance out the loss of all the potentially nice girls people could be grabbing. Clan members can also donate SB, items, and food to reward each other for taking on this mission. If we motivate each other, it will be easier and more fun to tidy the tree.

Let's help the tree together! Click here to join the crew!

Some of our users are tracking how busy the tree gets over time with trends. Click here if you'd like to help input data too!

I tracked it yesterday on an excel spreadsheet. (I'm a data junkie) It wasn't an en masse dump. It started right after the event announcement on April 30 and snowballed throughout the evening and into May 1. The morning of April 30 (lioden morning) when I went to the tree there were just about 300 male cubs, no adols, less than 50 female cubs. What you see now happened in 24 hours.

I suspect 3 things:

1) end of the April event, people trying to get event marks/eyes and rolling those last few litters, dumping cubs without them
2) start of the May event, people clearing space for new groupies & new colors/etc
3) start of wet season - all of us rare base breeders rolling for snowflake & cloudburst. I early birthed 6 albino litters yesterday and did not get a single keeper (though I send all mine to the reserve for karma rather than the tree)

I plan to keep tracking through the month and see if I can catch the rises and falls of the tree. For example I've noticed anyway that female adols rise in lioden evening and fall the next day, I suspect people without lair space getting warnings and then dumping young girls about to grow up rather than have someone run away.

The spreadsheet is viewable here if anyone wants to see it
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1uEWeZWn-i69m7wG56cm7qHgNV2u4ldN8EM5W0W_HllQ/edit?usp=sharing

I played around with some graphs yesterday and as I continue to collect the data I might get a friend to help me program a rolling graph that shows the ups and downs over time of day (lioden time), days of week, tracking with events, wet & dry season etc. I'm in other games where spreadsheets are a big part of daily life for player groups and I'm surprised how few there are in lioden (unless they're all in Discord, where I am not, lol)

Aah, that's really interesting and explains it too. Great job that you made a spreadsheet too! :)

if I can figure out how to autofeed from a google form into the excel sheet and then auto graph it, we can all contribute, and then there won’t be a gap when I’m asleep lol

hmm that's true, what time zone are you in? that way we might be able to coordinate our 'watches/shifts' on the document and recording the numbers

Lioden +3. If I can get it together in the next couple of weeks (or find someone to do it lol) I'll post here.

Ah alright. I'm synced with LDT so I can update in the 3 hours you're not on (depending on when you're asleep lol)

There are more girl cubs than boy cubs (still all super high though...). Impossible.

@bonibaru
Nice, you're probably spot on here. With all of the new lions coming in, people are going to dump the old ones. It simply means that we'll have to work harder again, lol.

Are the male groupies, adols? Is that why the male adol numbers skyrocketed, are people banishing their groupies? I'm not getting the males so IDK.

I read on the wiki that male groupies are adols, so yes.

Yup! Literally ALL of them are potatoes. I don't understand why some people think they're doing someone a favour by dumping their potato groupies. Honestly. Just chase/kill/nature reserve them, sheesh...

Keep it up, y'all!

Unfortunately they're doing no one a favor. They can always chase without an energy cost if they'd like, but they choose to make the tree a landfill. It's why we have our mission statements to avoid doing the same as them.

Yeah... I've been trying occasionally to put a little reminder in the main chat to not tree their potatoes and I hope it's doing something. It is SO convenient to NOT tree their potato cubs so I wish others could simply not tree them, even if they aren't participating in something like our clean-up actively.

Isn’t treeing more convenient though, because it doesn’t take energy? I nature reserve everything because I’m a karma chaser and the energy cost is acceptable to me vs. being able to explore more.
