Shagstriders are a magnificent type of livestock! They are strong, versatile, and easily trained due to their high intelligence. Most people around here use them for pulling their carts with heavy loads, help with minor construction, and even as mounts. Even if you don't have a job for them to do, they make great companions to have around as they are protective of their people and other livestock/animals you might have around. The females are especially protective of their homes and small children and are known to chase off anything they perceive as a potential threat.

Just remember to treat your Strider with kindness and respect! They do not do well under a heavy hand and unkind words and will leave your home if they decide you're not worth working with or protecting.



Shagstriders come in three types; Standard, Show, and Wild.

Most of what you see are Standardbred, as in they do not conform to any color pattern or appearance. They are bred for their intelligence and strength. Mutations pop up here and there.

Show Shagstriders are, well, for showing competitions! They are more sleek in the body, have longer fur, but their colors and patterns are brighter and more consistent to conform to their show standard. Not intended for heavy work but make fancy mounts! Though don't take them on long distance trips, else you'll be camping in the woods overnight! Most mutations are considered a show fault so if you got a show type with a mutation... well, you won't be showing them for long.

Wild types, well. They aren't like the domesticated 'Striders you see on peoples pastures. They keep to themselves deep in the forests and are known to dig big, elaborate warrens to live in. They are stubborn and protective of their home, so approach with caution! They can be tamed, though they will only do what they want to do and will only hang around if you got a few 'Striders of your own. Prone to mutations due to them living in large groups and not venturing far from their original warrens.
