If you came across a form, you should give a reason in form of a reply before pledging your stance on a suggestion, this is as to encourage giving constructive criticism, as my first experience in forms were in the Scratch suggestions forms and the other users informed everyone that " Don't just say you support or not, give a reason you do or don't. "

I kept this in place in my replies to WD and LD suggestion forms.

If this is too overkill then let's just say we give a message after supporting/not supporting " You pledged your support/opposition! Now, remember to please put your reasoning for your stance in form of reply to this thread. "

This suggestion has 0 supports and 193 NO supports.

thats a terrible idea. going through with it causes a ton of reduntant feedbacks all repeating themselves, extra server strain, and clutters the forums because each reply bumps a thread.

i dont want to imagine trying to find new suggestions when the same handful of popular ones get bumped to death by mandatory replys to vote

edit: replying to a thread auto subscribes. so as long as thats a feature, notification clog like when bug reporting on wolvden could also happen.

No support. Sometimes, people agree/disagree with something and either don't have words other than "support" or "no support", or just want to agree or disagree with something quietly.
This feature would almost definitely lead to both server clog/strain and people being less motivated to support or not support suggestions, which would lead staff to not being entirely sure what their userbase wants.

Asking for people to explain is fine, but essentially demanding that they do and forcing them to do so isn't going to do any good for any suggestions, good or bad.

I don't have to tell you why I don't like something. And forcing me to will just insure I don't 🤷‍♀️

What about removing it instead?

Honestly if not for this the support/no support buttons should just be removed, discourages constrictiveness and makes some people feel sad that their suggestion has many no supports with no replies to say why they don't support. Scratch doesn't have the stance buttons on their suggestion forms.

People don't have to comment on why they don't support a suggest and forcing them to do so will make them not want to comment even more.

No support because it will either make people not want to support/non-support, OR produce a tide of spam in the forums with single-sentance replies stating all the same. Sometimes there's over 100 people supporting or non-supporting a suggestion; there cannot possibly be 100 different constructive criticism posts. This really will be producing a lot of spam, which will hurt the constructive criticism more than help it; it will be a challange to find actually helpful post among 100 sentances all stating roughly the same.

Just no, If I like or don't like something I don't want to have to be forced to talk about it. I'd rather just click my preferred button and move on with my day instead of having to write out a paragraph explaining my entire thought process.

Removing the voting system would be insanely counterproductive. It allows the staff to see which ideas are popular at a glance, instead of having to sift through dozens of comments that only say "support" or "no support" as per your alternative suggestion.

I've had suggestions in the past that have tanked on other websites, and while yes it is sad, eventually you get over it.
Sometimes what you want isn't what everyone else wants, and that's okay!

Also, Scratch is a wildly different site from Lioden; things are bound to be vastly different between two vastly different websites. The Support and No Support buttons are vital on this website so that, as peepy has said, the staff can see which ideas the majority of users want at a glance. I like the system personally, since it streamlines communication between the userbase and staff. On top of this, if the buttons were disabled and people were forced to state their support.. I've been on sites that work solely on others stating their support, and you do not want to know how many times those have dissolved into arguments.

The current button system is perfect for staff seeing what people want and preventing needless arguments between users.

My alternative; say we have an "upvote" or "downvote" button, which you can use to quietly state your support/no support on, but the support/no support buttons are locked behind a reply.

Does that fix the problem?

I rarely say why I don't support something.

I'm autistic and have a minimal filter... and sometimes it's an open mouth/insert foot incident. And I'd rather not get people upset with me.

The upvote/downvote buttons would still be functionally similar to the support/no support buttons, which would render them kind of unnecessary, given the purpose of the current support/no support buttons we have now. The alternative you offered is essentially just keeping the same thing we have now, with extra steps.

The problem is only fixed when replying becomes an option; which is the system we have in place now.
There's no userbase-wide need to change it, and judging by the supports this suggestion has currently, the idea to change how things currently work isn't popular with the community, either.

I can understand wanting to know the reasons why someone supports or doesn't support, but you can't force everyone to give you an answer, especially when that answer for not supporting may not be something you want to hear.
