Tōnatiuh | The Uncertain Prince
Tōnatiuh, son of Tezcatlipoca and heir to his throne. One of the King's many sons, it did not seem like he would be the one the aging lord would choose to succeed him, especially considering both his nature and the long line of succession before him. Yet, Tezca chose him still.
The pride murmurs. Could it be his mother, Ilhuicac, was a prized enough consort to the king that she was able to convince him to crown her son? Or perhaps the mysterious visitor Santa Cozca shared wisdom with the King that only he himself could know?
Tōnatiuh alone was privy to the last message the seer Yayatitlattaya shared with Tezcatlipoca before she passed to the great beyond.

Born to Ilhuicac, he and his twin sister were an odd sight to those around them. Their pelts shimmered with an otherworldly sheen, and from that moment it seemed the pride saw them destined for greatness. Their mother rose to a seat of reverence, taking great care to groom her children for the overwhelming future that lay before them. She did her best to instill the ferocity Tezcatlipoca wanted into his heir, but Tōnatiuh was never the violent one. His sister took more to the art of war than he, overshadowing him at every opportunity. The Prince himself seemed more inclined to study the mystic arts, being drawn to the visitor Santa Cozca more than to the path of war and leadership he was meant to follow.
This did not please the King.
Tezcatlipoca made it very clear to him from a young age that, should he not fit the image of an heir he had, he would kill him himself. The King did not want some studious weakling taking his place upon his deathbed, but still seemed very intent on this heir being Tōnatiuh despite him not fitting his ideal in the slightest. It seems the King believes he'll be able to mold his Prince into the right replacement.
But as time ticks down and Tōnatiuh shows little sign of changing, there is worry within him that he may act on his word even if it would go against the vision the seer had shared long ago. Change does not come easy- but he will try. For both his life, and to ease the worries of his elderly mother.
