Sunset had to leave her family pride when a prideless lion killed her father and took over his land. He wanted to kill the previous king's cubs, and because Sunset was the only cub in the pride, all the lionesses wanted to keep her alive. They decided to distract the king so Sunset had a chance to ran away.
And that is how Sunset became prideless. She had trouble finding a new pride because of her lack of useful skills. She was a cub after all, she couldn't even hunt. No king wanted to keep a useless cub in his pride.
Sunset learned how to hunt small rodents, but she quickly realized that a mouse a day won't keep her alive for long.
She was close to death when
Anza found her. Sunset was so desperate that she practically begged the king to accept her into his pride. Anza, of course, took her home.
She spent a few days in the herbalist's den, and when she gained some strenght she began training with other cubs her age.
When she grew up, she turned out to be really good at hunting. Specifically, stealth. Because of her calmness and silent steps the prey could never hear her coming!
Because of her skills, she was later chosen as one of the mentors. She was supposed to teach adolescents about the art of stealth. This could have been taught simply by the Hunting Mentor, but Sunset was able to pass on much more knowledge on the subject, which later turned out to have a positive effect on the results of the hunts.
Sunset was also the leader of The Evening Terrors, but she gave up this role after Hawk became the new king.
As the master of stealth, she was given a new duty. She became a spy for the king. This part of her job was a secret, on a day-to-day basis, Sunset helped with hunting training.
Sunset, despite all her talents wasn't the most intelligent member of the pride, so she never realized that the king was using the information she provided to punish lions that didn't agree with his ideology. Sunset had no idea that she was accidentaly putting her pridemates in uncomfortable situations.
Later Sunset took
Luna as her apprentice and succesor.
