Kipande is the first cub in Sabuni’s third litter, her fourth child overall.
Kipande lived his cubhood and teenage years as a happy little boy, who had a sister he liked to tackle and a mom who loved him. And the world was perfect.
As his late teenage years turned into adulthood, he realized something wasn’t right. He didn’t want to patrol or start a pride, hell, he barely wanted to FIGHT. But, boys aren’t supposed to say that. He’s supposed to either be a pride guard or leave to found his own pride. Or just be a rogue. Since rogue seems the most palatable of the three, that’s what he does, leaving the pride with his half brother Adabu.
They make it grand total of three months, both miserable, thinking they left for the other one. Eventually, after a long long day of hunting and being chased from every single territory they wander into, the brothers pass out under a Marula tree get a wee bit tipsy on the fermented fruit that litters the ground.
Kipande finally confesses that while he liked being a boy cub, he’s really not vibing with being a lion. Adabu is very concerned that his brother suddenly wants to be a monkey or something, when Kipande clarifies: he doesn’t want the be a lion, but he would like to be a LIONESS. And admits he only left home because he throught Adabu wanted to start a pride as co-kings, like they planned as cubs.
Adabu smacks Kipande over the ears and calls her his “stupid sister”, and Kipande about cries. It really does feel so much better. And, Adabu has a confession to make as well: he’s gay. He doesn’t want to start a pride and marry lots of pretty lionesses, he was only doing that so KIPANDE could be a king! What he really wants is to be a pride guard and train every day (he’s a gym bro) and find a nice boyfriend someday.
So, the two laugh and return home the next day: Adabu to be a Royal Guard, and Kipande, freshly maneless from a shaman’s portion, ready to go on her ceremonial First Hunt. And the world was perfect.
Much later, Adabu leaves the pride again, permanently this time, running off with a sweetheart to live on the nature reserve, Kipande vows to name her first son after him, and to carry him in her heart forever. Her brother made her brave.

~Kipande rests in a very adorable looking pose and lets out a purr-like sound when you approach.
~When you come near, resting Kipande makes a little coo in her throat, then rolls over to show her belly. She blinks slowly at you and coos again when you groom her.
~You come back to the den and find your favorite sleeping spot covered with flowers. Kipande is sitting by, sparkles in her eyes, to see if you like it.
