walking through a lush grassland savannah, you smile and think today is the perfect day to go exploring. you pad along, taking in the sights and sounds, following the path of a meandering river beside you and sticking to its soft banks. up ahead, you notice the grass and green foliage start to peter off around the river, being replaced by stoney ground that radiates the heat waves of the ruthless sun above you. perplexed, you climb up the river bank and look around, only to notice up ahead lies a peculiar sight- large boulders and stones push up from the ground like the backs of whales in the water, reddish and gathering particularly around the river's path. these scattered rocks go from stratified to joining together into small ridges, hiding the river behind them as it curves, standing tall in the otherwise flat plain. the savannah is noticeably quieter here, the sound of the river trickling beside you seeming like a roar in light of the absence of noise.
slowly and cautiously, you approach the jutting red stones ahead of you, the sun beaming down into your eyes causing you to squint. when you get a few yards away from the nearest rock to you, your paws suddenly stop and your eyes widen. on the rock, there are runes- symbols of some sort- depicting images of different prey animals, lions, and even humans. you come closer to get a better look, at the rock towering above you now, and let your eyes wander across these strange symbols. as you look around you, you notice they cover every rock in sight, scrawled in carefully and precisely by someone before you.
suddenly you hear a rattling noise coming from right above you, and you jump back, snarl, and unleash your claws- looking up in panic to find a strange lion looking back at you perched upon the rock. how it managed to sneak up there without you knowing, you have no idea. its pelt is brown and heavily patterned and striped, with whiter-based legs and large splotches of pure black etched into its fur like nebulous smoke. the lion is wearing brown and black jewelry that crisscrosses its body, adorned with bones both small and large that hang and swing around the lion's ribcage and rattle at the neck as it breathes. a deep black mane hangs around its face and on his tail, long and well-groomed with a salt and pepper mohawk starting on its forehead. the most striking part of its appearance, though, is the accessories on its face. sitting above a scraggly and tattered brown hood that covers right down to its muzzle sits one-half of a hyena skull, brown deer antlers jutting from his temples and reaching into the air like crooked tree branches. its face, at least the part you can see, is black as the darkest night, a well-groomed beard sitting upon his chin underneath his smirk. it stares down at you with eyes you cant see behind the skull and the mask, its head tilting to one side like a curious puppy as it takes in your startled appearance, and suddenly you hear a mirthful laugh in a deep voice erupt from its throat as its shoulders shake with humor.
"scared you pretty bad, didn't i, traveler?" he teases, jumping down from the rock easily and standing in front of you, only a bit less menacing as stands within a foot of you- a bit taller than you are. you stand in shocked silence, blinking at the lion covered in bones like the grim reaper but laughing like an old friend, and he just chuckles again. "gonna stand and stare all day, huh? guess it's good I'm easy on the eyes," his head tilts in what you think is a winking motion, but you're not sure- again, his eyes are a mystery to you. "well, im aridxol. nice to meet you, doll." he purrs, bowing his head a little, "come on, then. follow me to my pride." he declares as he spins around and trots off languidely, the bones around him rattling and jingling in rhythm with his steps as he goes, humming a little tune.
