King Zagon's Den

(Consider this lore a VERY rough first draft. It's written very sloppily and probably flips between past and present tense. I'm planning on improving and working on it as I go along. This is very loosely written and will need substantial improvement! I just thought anyone curious might like to see the progress.)

The Firmament was created when King Zola began to amass eager lionesses for his pride. All seemed to be going well, but unfortunately the only cub he ever managed to produce from the array of beautiful lionesses was his darling daughter, Princess Foras.

While his heart swelled with pride at his first and only kitten, he was fearful that he would never produce an heir to his throne.
All seemed all hope was lost and his growing pride would be doomed to fail.

---

Queen Furfur took Princess Foras for a stroll beside the river, keeping the curious cub from getting too close to the water on her own. When the queen hears rustling in the bushes, she goes on high alert and hides her cub in the grass and attempts to locate the source.

She can hear and smell something as she pursues it, but it uses the shrubland to its advantage in order to remain out of reach before she can track it down and pounce.
She eventually finally catches the source, an extremely deft Cheetah. Queen Furfur was satisfied that she's taken care of the threat and prepares to grab the body to take back to the hoard, but straightens up immediately when she hears the cries of her cub.

---

The queen not realize that this had been part of a plan of the small coalition of male Cheetahs seeking out her cub (and ideally herself as well) for a desperate meal. One pursued the Queen while another waited patiently for their chance to pounce on her cub.

The Princess realized she was being stalked and cries out for her mom for help. She makes a run for it, but Cheetahs are lightning fast and she only barely misses a vicious crunch of the neck.

The reason the Cheetah failed though was due to a male cub, nearly an adolescent by the looks of his growing mane, had leapt out of the shrubs and had taken a rather sizable chunk out of the Cheetah's backside to prevent the kill.

The two came to blows, this unknown but heroic lion against a Cheetah. While the leaner spotted cat was smarter and more agile, he found he was matched quite well by the growing lion. Realizing he was fighting a losing battle, the Cheetah decided to make a break for it, but not after doing quite a bit of damage to the young lion.

---

By the time the Queen returned to her cub, she would find the child licking and attending to the hurt male. While the Queen was on edge at first and demanded the child get away from the boy, once she learned of his heroism she too began to dote on him. The boy explained how his pride had been killed by a rival pride and he and a couple others had to scatter in their escape. He had no home or family and had otherwise been surviving on his own.

His story and heroism melted the heart of the Queen. While she would normally ask the King about such an offer, she immediately asked him to come back to their pride so they could tend to his wounds. He was introduced to the pride as Zagon.

---

King Zola was not fond of letting the lion stay with them, but the Queen pressed for it and his lovely daughter seemed rather smitten with him. Having a soft spot for his sweet child, King Zola finally relented and agreed to let Zagon stay with them.

In time, even the King began to grow find of the male. He was headstrong and chivalrous, and he seemed to take his training under President Vassago very seriously. It was clear he had a growing fondness for the King's daughter and it seemed the feeling was mutual.

Still worrying for his bloodline, and realizing that in all ways but blood this boy was the perfect heir to his throne, he proposed the idea of the boy one day taking over his kingdom and having Princess Foras as his queen.

The Princess was immediately on board, but it took a bit of time for the would-be prince to accept the proposal. Whether it was worrying he couldn't fill the King's pawprints or just a growing shyness towards the Princess is unsure, but Zagon eventually agreed.

---

Now, King Zagon rules over the pride with dignity and care. Alongside his Queen, they both rule together in equal measure.
