Mortal souls suffered at the claws of 'The Mane of Fire'. To silence Them. He set fire to the land; an inferno of lies and desperation. Sulfur: the bodies of The Heathens burn gold. And their ashes? Only grey dust remains. The carcasses of the ignorant litter the desert; charred. Yet They still laugh and chuckle their heresy”.

Shaped by millenia of duststorms and decay, 'The Hyena Lands' is a vast hellscape, where the eternal fog hangs over the area, causing constant illusions of hunting hyena clans; hence its name. Due to the ever-shifting sands, attempting navigation is futile: the surroundings can and will switch from sand dunes to salt flats in a matter of days; much faster than in deserts. Although there is a constant blanket of fog shrouding the place, there is little water in the area. Most of the water found is undrinkable as it has high salt contents. And because of this, there are also few prey animals to hunt, aside from the small desert hares, kangaroo rats and carrion birds. Even with these conditions, some decide to stay, to live here.

The climate of 'The Hyena Lands' is akin to that of hot deserts like the Namib. It is hot and dry during the day hours and quite cold at night, the former being cooler on average. It is also recognised and referred to as the ‘Frozen Hell’, albeit rarely, compared to the name given to it by the eldest of the Shamans: ‘The Land of the Hunting Hyena’, where its most common name was derived from.

Phenomena:
'The Hyena Lands' is a place that appears to be some sort of boundary from the Pride Lands to Unclaimed Territories. Lions who find themselves here usually have after walking for tens of thousands of paces in any particular direction. It's widely assumed that lions who have been exiled, or betrayed their prides end up here, after attempting to run from their deeds. Although, to many, it is a myth and is used as a means to make sure that their subordinates stay in line.
Another strange characteristic of the place is that it seems to have a regressive effect on some lions that enter it. Mostly biased towards lions that have regrets of the lives they led before finding themselves here. Perhaps this place somehow has a way of ‘freeing’ those who get here?
During the night, 'The Hyena Lands' has been said to house malevolent spirits. They appear to be the physical manifestations of the collective loss of sanity of the numerous lions who have entered and never left: collective hallucinations. The shamans still do not know why they remain to hunt in the skies of these lands. Perhaps a curse from vengeful ancestors..




Despite the harsh conditions of 'The Hyena Lands', most lions who get here must adapt and survive.
