The night was a harsh one, bordering on the cusp of a storm. If it had been daytime, the clouds would've long scared every sort of animal back into their dens with the obscuring darkness. Even now, that was the case, leaving the savanna to look abandoned; haunted, even.
Except for the one lion that padded along, the harsh winds whipping through his dusky fur roughly.
But he didn't seem cowed by the darkness lingering in what seemed like every edge of the world; nor was he cowed by the screams of the wind, ripping and tearing at his fur almost desperately.
For him, for his heart, life was always this bleak, this stark and cold and dark. He'd always been alone, with only the wind and the sky to guide him. It would never bother him to feel this cold, for he had already numbed.
The thing about being numb- there's absolutely nothing left for you to lose.

The Pride of the Starfallen
Legends have told of a pride, bordering on the cusp of reality and fantasy; walking the plane between the earth and the sky.
Each one is vague, however- it's a dream parents tell their cubs of; a fantasy that will never be more than that.
However...the most popular adaptation is a song, a lullaby meant for the ears of the sleepy and the heads of the dreamers. That being said, it goes a little like this:

Come, my child
Let sleep take hold
The lions shall guide you
To riches untold
Your mind full of peace
And your heart full of love
Only look to the sky up above

The stars, they sing this sweet lullaby
Listen closely my dear, there's nothing to fear
So don't you hang your head and cry
They tell of a pride, made of stardust and dreams
Of lions that seem to tear apart at the seams

They chase the evil, they keep you from harm
While here in your bed, you snuggle up warm
With every visit, they always impart
Magic and stardust
In your head and your heart


However...the truth of this pride- it's a lot less magical.
It all began with Typh: a lion who was a loner at best, and a shut-in at worst. His disposition made him seem cold, but every thing he did was for his pride, and any emotion he felt for them was love.
But he was mourning, too...
Mourning a pride that once existed, until it fell from the tatters of a broken kingdom...when the stars fell, so did his life.
When the sky fell, so did he.
