Polydactylism is when an animal has more than the normal number of toes. It is most common in cats, which normally have five toes in each of their front paws and four at the back. Polydactyl cats, however, have more than that. Jake, a male tabby cat from Canada, is recognized as the cat with the most toes. He has a whopping 28 toes—seven on each foot. Polydactylism, which means “many fingered,” is more common among cats in England, Wales, Eastern US, and Canada than anywhere else in the world. They were popularized by famed writer Ernest Hemingway, and are sometimes called “Hemingway cats.” They are also sometimes called “snowshoe paws” or “pancake feet” because the extra toes make them appear to have big feet.

If you look up polydactyl its not one toe on each side! I have a polydactyl cat. Its almost like half a foot is attached to one side. I know I'm right! XD

I absolutely love mitten kittens I had one beautiful girl with 6 toes on the front feet , she had the thumb like normal polys. But also had a non functioning digit between the thumb and paw she spread her feet so the thumb was behind her paw and clicked as she walked on hard floors. Her back feet had 6 or 7 toes as well. Poly kitties have a habit of using the extra toes like pose- able thumbs much like we do or a panda (I watched many poly kittens grow up and would cry happy if I got this mutation)

I have a polydactyl cat IRL. Here's a bit of a suggestion.. It could have variations. Polydactyl (Patty Foot) and Polydactyl (Mitten Foot) , As seen here 02a26f7209706403ae2dd26a9fa05cdc.jpg

Also, the correct term would be "Polydactyly"

Love Polydactyl cats! I've known two fully grown cats with it one was a door opener, and the other was a chub muffin named Digit who also had breathing problems but was one hell of a love bug. + i think its fun to see the fully grown forms of mutations so non-lethal is a check plus for me~

^ My polydactyl cat was named Digit when we saw him at the shelter (We renamed him Frank after we adopted him) he's chubby, and he wheezes sometimes...
