Hello! I'm Scy and I'm pretty much just a hobbyist. I like to dabble in digital art and sculpting, mostly, with some traditional thrown in. I'm starting this thread to help out new artists and also because I need to take small breaks while doing commissions and/or studying. If you're curious about my art, it's all on my Tumblr. I will be happy to: 1) Give short critiques 2) Redline pieces (meaning I will take your art and draw over it to show you where the problems are) - although I may not do many of these, depending on how busy/tired I am. 3) Give any tips I can, although there are many, many more experienced artists who have tutorials and videos that will explain things better than I could. I will not: 1) Do free art for you. Sorry, I'm already kinda swamped. 2) Coddle you. Please don't ask for a critique and then scream and pout about how I just don't like 'your style'. I'm not a mean or harsh judge of art (we all had to start somewhere!) but if you ask for a critique, that's what you're going to get. If any other artist wants to chime in with advice or just chat, feel free! 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 06/11/15 @ 20:05:38 by Scyllarus (#26842) |

@Celtic Ruins Mmm. Right now I'd suggest looking up some tutorials about the basics - how to draw canines, how to draw humans, etc. If you feel confident enough, I'd suggest looking up pictures on google and doing figure studies. Concentrate on learning how each body is shaped and don't worry about details until later. You clearly put a lot of effort into your art, but right now you don't really have the technical skill down or the anatomy know-how, so focus on that! As for realism, there's some nice fur tutorials c: I know the hardest thing for me was learning to embrace using contrast for shading - the eye is pretty good, and part of the reason for that is because you have a large difference in contrast between the darker and lighter parts. The rest of the fur is too lightly shaded to really look like anything. 0 players like this post! @Lia-Lin Aww, thank you! It was a pain to animate, ahah. Cute, but I get a sense that you're not very confident with anatomy. The dragon-wolf's shoulder is extremely low - notice how this skeleton has the scapula/shoulderblade very high up, attaching to the spine. The tail should also follow the spine in one unbroken line - here it looks like the tail is coming out of its rear end. It may help you to learn to draw them 'naked' first and then add hair. 0 players like this post! Like? |

Scy | Ugh, yes, anatomy. Thanks for the feedback! I totally see what you mean with all of it! *Runs off to draw naked animals.* 0 players like this post! Like? |

Medical school, huh? That's great! That takes a lot of hard work, dedication, and a deep care for the wellbeing of others, so that says a lot about the kind of person you are! If you manage to find a bit of free time, I'm still interested in hearing your thoughts on the artwork I posted back on page 5 of the thread. I've been extremely busy myself, so I still haven't gotten around to revisiting it in an attempt to refine it further. Thanks a million, and best of luck in medical school! 0 players like this post! @Cattibrie Oh, man, I didn't think you'd still want a crit! Thank you for your well wishes, by the way c: I wrote a critique and then decided to just do a quick redline. Here you go: To be honest, I'm still not 100% sure what's going on with that hind leg orz and the far wing is a little too large for the perspective. It's not a perfect redline, but I hope it helps you! 0 players like this post! Like? Edited on 10/11/15 @ 02:03:48 by Scyllarus (#26842) |
