Ashstar snorted lightly before making his way over to the tree, "Hunting? Nope I wouldn't call it that, especially since baby birds are notoriously gross and squishy. " He lifted his paw up and sat it carefully onto the trunk, seeing that he was correct in his assumption he lifted his paw back up allowing bark to fall from the new hole. "This tree is dying, in it are several bird nests containing the next generation of the birds that nest here. I give the tree a week before it falls killing all the hatchlings, since they're unable to fly and simultaneously cutting our future prey stock in half. So we are going to carefully move each nest to a safe tree in order to keep them alive." Ashstar flicked one ear at her before, he began partially climbing, partially gliding up the trees branches with ease until he came to the first nest. He gently dislodged it from the branch and drifted lightly back down to the forest floor, this nest held two featherless Swallow hatchlings, which he gently sat down.

"So they're a bit like you?" she laughed at her own joke, not really too bothered about disturbing the animals now. If they were only fledglings they couldn't fly away, that and her joke had rather amused her. "I'm sorry, I couldn't help myself"s he began to calm, looking at the tree now she watched the bark fall. It was terrifying, a tree shouldn't just fall apart like that. "It certainly is....I've never seen a tree die before" the she looked at the grand creation of nature, completely in awe and sadness. "We'll have to move the nests so they're no where near where the tree will fall, and we'll have to make sure the parents see the nests new place. No point moving them if they're going to be abandoned and die anyway" she offered up her suggestion. Not wanting to touch the tree she backed up, running and taking off in a small clearing. Going through the trees branches she got knocked rather a lot, making her flying a little clunky and painful. Finally she landed upon a branch, shuffling along it to the nest at the end. Staring in she saw three tiny, bald little chicks which appeared to be something like a magpie. Soon her question as to what they were was answered, two magpies coming and attacking the she cat to defend their nest. She was shouting in pain as she took hold of the nest and made her descent, still pursued by the parents. Landing she moved away from the nest, glad to be free of the relentless pecking. There were only a few cuts over her body, nothing that would hinder her or needed seeing to. "At least we know this nest won't be abandoned..." she chuckled, making a joke of her own misfortune.

Ashstar was tempted to stick his tongue out at the joking she-cat, all in good fun of course, before nodding, "You are right of course, but I used to do this when I was an apprentice." He mumbled laughing to himself lighly. Cringing he watched as Dapplecloud was attacked by the parents of a couple of hatchlings, he was at her side within moments looking over her carefully, making sure she wasn't hurt to badly by the overly aggressive birds.
