Here's something I've been wondering about for a while: I remember waaaaay back when our current version of explore was previewed in News (I think the image is broken now), there were arrows where you could actually choose what direction you were going.

Is that planned for the next explore expansion? I think it could potentially add a lot of depth. Instead of mindless clicking, maybe you could receive information about different sounds and scents coming from different directions, and follow them for a higher chance of things like NPC encounters or lionesses. (And maybe it would be nice to have a way to avoid getting Underbrush so many times, for example, if you have no plans to build any more beetle mounds).

Maybe this could be a coupled with a sense of continuity between different explore zones; instead of being air-dropped into one area every time you go exploring, you might wander from the jungle into some marshlands, for example, if you head in one direction for long enough. This could be integrated with ye olde territory map also.

Has this idea been abandoned or is it still in the works? And any other depth we can give this?

EDIT: I found the old image I was talking about on Xy's Tumblr:

I support. I wondered that too why in explore we can't choose the direction we are going. I fully support your idea.

this would be quite nice! there would have to be some sort of warning system to let you know when you are about to cross into another zone though.
and really our lions wouldn't need that many directions to choose from, maybe just left-ish, right-ish and straight. or even have some directions locked until your lion has unlocked explore zones, for example a level 1 lion has 1 direction, while a level 19 lion has 3 directions to explore their 5 unlocked zones
(I know of another game that I won't mention that gave people all the compass points to choose from and people started getting really stressed)

to avoid from going into an area with a higher level, you could have something like "you sense danger up ahead, maybe you should wait to enter. you mentally map the area though, and continue back the way you came." or you could build up the map by exploring like with locations and stuff.

Maybe there should be a map? I would get pretty frustrated if you had many directions to explore with no way to tell where you've already been. Unless it wouldn't work that way?

So it's somewhat like an old rpg? That might be cool. It would take a while to code properly, but if the coders were willing to do that, then I think it would be a fun feature!

Like choose North, East, South, or West. And like i you search one direction 100% then it'll say you're gunna go in a new zone, and like if that next zone is one you don't have unlocked, it'll say something like "you hear howl and screams. (name of things that would be ther- like trees or grass) scare you. Best not go there now"
