I remember that no long ago a player asked in chat what were the effects of lionesses' personalities, besides the nurturing one, and that a staff member replied that none, for the moment, but that it was already planned to change. I've searched and found no other suggestion that focused solely on this, so here we go:

Female's Personalities Overhaul!

Right now, we have about 50 different personalities for females, 10 per karma group, and only one of those - Nurturing - has a notable effect within our prides beyond the mood boost and penalties that all karma groups share. This is a lot of effects to make, so I thought that we could begin suggesting 9 to complement the "taking care of an extra cub as a broodmother" one, and see where they fit within all the karma groups as a personality. Or that could stay exclusive to the good girls, like some male personalities? Or maybe add a counterpart to the evil side?

Perhaps we could have some lionesses have a chance of bringing something "extra" from their hunts, like the Stingy or the Gracious ones? Have some that help with the general mood of the pride, like the Joyful, Upbeat or Humorous personalities? Maybe some that can boost our PvP or PvE chances, like the Loud and Brutal ones? What would you want your ladies to be able to do?

Possible Personalities' effects:

Interaction Effects

  • A small chance of regaining 5% of energy once per Rollover and lioness when interacting with certain personalities (Cuddly, Gentle/Calm, Laidback, Lazy, Grumpy/Secretive?).

  • A small chance of getting 1-5 SB upon interaction with certain lionesses.

  • The chance of getting a special decor (Patient Expression) when you interact with certain lionesses (Emotional, Needy).

  • A small chance of gaining 1-3% of impression level upon interacting with certain lionesses (Proud, Vain)/A small chance of gaining certain "messy" decors upon interacting.

  • A chance of being gifted small trinkets - single use bones, feathers - upon interacting with certain lionesses (Distant?).

  • Exclusive to Awkward lionesses: a chance of being gifted your least favorite food upon interacting.

  • A small chance of the lioness gaining 10-25 EXP points upon interaction with the lioness in question.

  • A small chance of the lioness gaining 1-3 random stats when interacting with the lioness in question.

The Feed all, Play all feature would have 0% chance of any of the interaction effects taking place: this is not a penalty, but a warning. For the interactions' effects to take place, you have to actually interact with the lionesses.

Special Effects

  • Protect 6 cubs as a Broodmother (This is already in-game)

  • Aid in a PvE battle once per day. This could work as Laharu did, and have her attack after every attack of our own. Intrepid

  • Exclusive to Romantic ladies and an Evil personality (Sinister?): Be able to mate with them once per Rollover without any energy cost/Enable the mating to another lioness without energy cost once per Rollover.|Auto-claim a lioness in explore once per RO thanks to her matchmaking/conniving ways. It's been pointed out that the auto-claim effect has the potential of being abused, so a way to limit it or a whole new effect would be welcome!

  • *Exclusive to a Good personality (Trusting?): Escort a pride member to the Natural Reserve once per Rollover; the lioness would get a small mood boost, gain 1-3 stats at random/give you +5 karma while she loses a hunt. This would take effect when you click on the "Send to Nature Reserve" option at the bottom of an unsecured lion page, and the flavor text could be: "You decide to take [LION'S NAME] to the Nature Reserve, but [TRUSTING LIONESS] volunteers to do it for you. She missed a hunt, and you gained [REWARD]."

  • *Exclusive to a Bad personality (Brutal?): Kill a pride member once per Rollover; the lioness would get a small mood boost/satiate hunger/add a carcass to the hoard/gain 1-3 stats at random/give you -5 karma while she loses a hunt. This would take effect when you click on the "Kill" option at the bottom of an unsecured lion page, and the flavor text could be: "You approach [LION'S NAME] with murderous intent, but [BRUTAL LIONESS] steps in and demands to do it, and you let her. She missed a hunt, and you gained [REWARD]."

  • Bring a small carcass once per Rollover when requested – this would make a brand new button a necessity/Have a small chance of bringing a critter carcass back with the usual hunting carcasses – the lioness would need to be part of that hunt.

  • Exclusive to Cold Lionesses: Don't loose any mood when taking a cub from their care.

  • Being able to cut the hunting time by half once per Rollover (the lioness must take part on the hunt).

  • Exclusive to Graceful and Harsh lionesses: A second chance per Rollover to train a single cub that has failed their training that Rollover.

*Those two are counterparts, and the idea is for only one of those effects to be possible, but the hunt cost is a must; which effect do you prefer? Karma? Mood for the lioness? Stat gain? Other?

Given that these effects could be taken advantage of with larger prides, a good way to prevent a possible abuse would be establishing a system similar to the stud slots: every week an account has a given amount of effect slots, and every time one of these is purposely used it'd take a slot away, until there are no more left or the counter refills the following week.

Automatic Effects

  • Raise pride members’ moods 2-4% every Rollover. This would take effect only within compatible karma groups: Kind and Good, and Snarky and Evil. Neutral is, well, neutral, so it'd only work within other neutral lions. The personalities that could have this effect could be Joyful, Upbeat, Humorous, Sassy and Mischievous.

  • Prevent a single pride member from leaving if they do so from a low mood, randomly (Warm lionesses or similar?).It's been pointed out that this effect has the potential of being abused, so a way to limit it or a whole new one would be welcome!

  • Exclusive to Rebellious personality: Lose only a 5% of mood upon Rollover, regardless of the king's personality.

  • Exclusive to Stingy and Prudent lionesses: they lose 5-10% less hunger per RO due to their "private stash".

Edit: I erased the whole personalities lists, for convenience purposes, given that the post was getting very long. I'll repost them once each one has been given a possible effect, preferably on a fancy table.

This suggestion has 831 supports and 6 NO supports.

@Katavi

I added a new section to the post for the possible effects, I thought it would be easier to read that way - I may have skipped a few, but I'll revise it tomorrow, it's quite late for me right now. I'll address your reply with the personalities one by one, now that's a bit smaller:

  • Intrepid: I thought it would be better that way, too. I'll edit the post again as soon as I'm done with this.

  • Trusting: it's already added to the post; I thought of Trusting and Stingy being opposites, in the sense that the Good ladies give you their beetles because they trust you'll do good with it, and the Stingy ones do so to protect themselves and a bigger hoard off somewhere xD The one for the lionesses to escort/kill pride members was a good one, I'll rethink it over and see where they fit.

  • Joyful Oh, must be my sleepy brain. Perhaps a 2-3% boost for all pride members - except the Snarky ones, to keep with LD trend.

  • Proud: Ithink I'd prefer the impression to the decor... but that isn't up to me. But I agree they pass on their fabulousness.

  • Cuddly: I tried to have a personality per karma group; that way no one would be unhappy because the % energy boost is in so and so groups only.

  • Curious: If there wasn't an extra button, I really don't know how some personalities' effects would work...

  • Focused: I thought so. I think I forgot the teen-training boost in the update of the main post. I'll try to do it once I'm done here.

  • Calm: I'll put both alternatives, and see which one others prefer.

  • Modest: Ohhh, I see. That escaped me. I was thinking of modesty as in "being not proud of anything", as in, "this is normal" even though others say it's fantastic. Now I see it.

  • Laidback: A neutral king will not clash with any of the lionesses regardless of group, but then so I think neutral lionesses won't have a mood boost or penalty for clashing or meshing with your males' personality...

  • Messy:... Are you sure you want more stuff to hoard senselessly? xD

  • Stubborn: This one is escaping me atm. I'll look again tomorrow, once I've slept.

  • Lazy: I already explained above. Somewhere. I think.

  • Rebellious: You'll never know...

  • Grumpy: Ohh... maybe. I'll put both.

  • Mischievous: The Evil side deserves nice things too xD

  • Sinister: yup!

I think I got everything. I'll update again tomorrow, I'll see if something occurs to me regarding the send to Reserve/Chase/Kill thing.

Instead of having a unique button, that's why I said "10% chance upon daily interaction".

Basically, once a day, you can Play/Groom/Tussle with a lioness/sub/cub/etc. That's your "daily interaction". So basically you hit that and you have a 10% chance of triggering their "personality perk", such as an interaction getting a carcass from them or boosting your energy, etc. etc.

@Katavi

That could work too, it'd be easier for sure than coding a brand new interaction "button". I'll update the heading in a bit, I hope I don't forget to add anything!

Some of these are quite overpowered, but as of right now lioness personalities are mostly useless, so I definitely support the concept.

@Fart

Which ones do you think are overpowered, and what would you tweak to make them more LD-friendly?

The stat and impression gain ones stuck out to me. But I'd be okay with them if they were mostly associated with rarer or event personalities.

If I'm honest with you, I'm not seeing how that particular effect is overpowered. The impression gain is supposed to have an extremely rare chance of happening - like 1-5% - when you interact with the lioness, just like every other of the interaction effects; in explore you have encounters that raise from 1% to 10% of impression, and they're fairly common to come across - In my experience, I cannot go exploring with a full energy bar and not encounter at least two times the running warthog.

It all adds up, especially for those with large prides. Personalities don't have to have an effect on stats or impression to be more useful.

Very much support. These are small enough effects that it would be fun or helpful without giving major advantages.

@Fart

I guess those with larger prides would have more chances of getting the impression boost effect but, then again, they have a harder time keeping such a large pride, as they need more food and toys, and most of them resort to the "play all, feed all", which wouldn't benefit from the interaction effects at all, so why should we limit this possible feature because someone has a larger pride? Every pride size has its benefits and drawbacks, and we're free to keep our prides as we like without interfering in other players'.

I guess people with lots of territory space could claim lots of NCLs to benefit for a couple of Rollovers without spending anything to maintain those lionesses, but I don't know how whorthwile that would be.

@Pairo

Thank you!

This is the best idea! Personalities definitely need some updating; only Nurturing lionesses make a difference in our prides and having each one serving a perpose would make interaction and a varied pride that much more engaging! Support!

@Xaldin II

Thank you, but I cannot take the credit for it, as it was supposed to be in-progress somewhere over the rainbow xD
Here we're only suggesting what the possible effects could be. Do you find them game-friendly? Is there anything you would add?

I'm clicking no support because I really don't like any of the suggestions in the main post.

I'm also against the fact that you're suggesting penalizing people who use Play All, a feature they paid RL money for. The game depends on people buying GB to stay up and running, penalizing paid features is not the way to keep it going.

I hope the staff can come up with something better.

It's not meant to be penalizing. The people with Feed All, Play All buttons can still have the option if they do it by hand. It's supposed to be a reward for taking the time to do it. The same Baoball gives stats for taking the time to play the game when you don't have to.

If it's able to be used by people by pushing a single button, it would basically encourage people to have huge prides to get bonuses with no effort.

Play All, Feed All is already "penalized". When you use the button, you can't get skill up for cubs or bonuses from food like you can if you do it by hand.

That's hardly a penalty at all. Skill is non-heritable and easily gained. I played for six months without feed all/play all and got maybe one stat on one lioness from carcasses.

It doesn't change the fact that I don't really like your suggestions either. I hope the staff comes up with other things that are passive and non-intrusive, like nurturing. Whether or not you have a nurturing lioness in your pride has virtually no impact on the game.
