Look behind their eyes,
and all of their secrets tell themselves.

Character Sheets | Roleplay Thread

BREAKING NEWS:
Melanie Kyte, 8, has been pronounced dead following an attack caused by an albino saltwater crocodile familiar.

Accidents happen, and the city had been content to accept that the incident had been a mere mishap. But then the test results came back and showed that the child’s death had been no mistake, and the city erupted into chaos. There were protests, riots, and murders. The once-peaceful city had fallen, leaving behind a haunting shell with a thirst for blood. The Familiarized were driven out and slaughtered by those seeking to protect those without familiars, and the harder they fought to defend themselves, the worse the war got. It was utter hell, to put it lightly.

Now, a year later, an ever-growing group of Familiarized lurk in the woodland, waiting to reclaim their city. Some wish to show the Unfamiliarized that they mean no harm, while others seek revenge. Whatever the case may be, they all have one thing in common.
They want to go home.

We're not gonna let them control us.

Rules and Information
* This is a literate roleplay, and that means at least two moderate-length paragraphs and extremely minimal grammatical errors. I understand that some of you use mobile devices occasionally to roleplay, but that doesn't mean you can just ignore any grammar mistakes you make. At least go through and read your writing and make sure it is mostly error-free before posting it.
* Hate the character, not the player. I cannot stress this enough. Characters are there for you to use and abuse and hate with every fiber of your being, but be mindful of the people playing those characters. Just because a character is a complete douchebag doesn't give you the right to abuse the player behind them.
* Not everyone can have a big cat or a wolf familiar. Let the familiars vary, and keep in mind that most predatory familiars have been killed by the Unfamiliarized due to the dangers they pose. Throw in some bugs and rodents and arachnids. Your familiar can be any (non-extinct) animal on earth, so why go with the generic feline/canine? Get creative!
* Familiars do not have to represent the person they are bonded to. A genius can bond with a panda, and the kindest pacifist in the world can bond with a wolverine. Of course, the animals sometimes do represent their humans, but it is more common for them to be complete opposites.
* Limit one on one. Depending on how many people join this roleplay, you must wait at least three to five posts between each of your replies. This is a group roleplay, and not all conversations should only involve two people.
* Familiars cannot talk. Familiars are not some higher species, they are generic animals that have bonded with specific humans. They cannot communicate with others outside of their species, and it is unlikely that a deer familiar will understand what an anaconda familiar is trying to say unless they have known each other for a long time. However, a person and their familiar can sort of "feel" each other's emotions, and due to the amount of time they've spent together they can sort of understand the other's gestures and actions. Just remember that, no matter how close they are, no one is capable of fully understanding and communicating with their familiar.
* The only way to identify a Familiarized is through their eyes. A bonded human's eyes will always match their familiar's and vice-versa. In most cases, only the eye color is the same, but occasionally the pupil shape will match as well (e.g., a person with a sheep familiar might have horizontal sheep pupils). This will be very rare in the roleplay, however, as the Familiarized with unique pupil shapes would have been the first to be killed due to their obvious bond.
* Humans can live without their familiars and familiars can live without their humans. It is miserable and most end up taking their own lives, but it is possible. Should their familiar die, the Familiarized will retain their eye color (and shape), and so most end up refusing to look at their reflection to avoid seeing their familiar's eyes.

I'm taking back the crown.

Isaac | Male | 16 | Lyric
Location: Familiarized Camp
Mentions: Open
Sharp, yet warm hued brown orbs roamed across the densely forested landscape. A young man strolled across the camp, grass blades tickling the hard soles of his feet and poking between his toes. With a sigh, Isaac sank down at the base of a tree, a fair bit away from all other activity. A smile tugged at the corners of his lips as he watched others with their familiars. Many different creatures wandered this place, all unique to themselves. It was quite odd, how many familiars had the complete opposite personality to their Familiarized. It would be a lot more helpful if they thought and acted alike, wouldn't it?

Interrupting his thoughts was the sounds of hooves crunching on grass, muted by the soft foliage underfoot. The barely audible noise caused Isaac to swivel his cranium to face the source, a grin etching over his rough features. Lyric trotted towards him, her faded russet coat still glittering in the sunlight, casting a golden sheen over her silky fur. The youth stretched out a dark-skinned hand towards the shy ungulate, examining her as she snuffled his hand, searching greedily for anything to eat. Before giving up, she licked his callused palm experimentally, eliciting an amused chuckle from its owner. Isaac shuffled over slightly, invitingly patting the earth beside him and glancing up at his familiar. Gracefully, the doe settled down beside him, leaning on his side and resting her sloped cranium in his lap. Gently, Isaac stroked her head, scratching her behind her large, twitching audits. The lean ungulate emitted a sound of contentment, relaxing into his soft touch. Fingers running through her red-brown fur, he noticed how ragged it was. And dirty. "I really should get you cleaned up, later." The young man uttered, mostly to himself, though the doe stiffened for a moment and her ears turned towards him, as if she understood his words. Chuckling again, Isaac leaned back against the rough bark of the trunk, gazing up towards the sky in thoughtful silence.

Vaughn | | Male | | 11 | | Fig
Location: Familiarized Camp
Mentions: Anne and Eden (Direct)

Feeling Fig on top of his head and burrowing in his hair sent a shudder down Vaughn's spine. Whenever she dug around in his tangled, unruly hair, it always gave him the "heebie-jeebies". After all, Fig wasn't potty trained and attempting to train her would near impossible. Now that he was older, he wanted to err on the side of caution to prevent Fig from leaving him any "stinky chocolate chips" in his hair, for lack of a more mature term. With that thought in mind, Vaughn snaked a thin hand to the top of his head, feeling Fig nesting in his mass of hair. With a hesitant sigh, he said, "Fig, you have to get out of my hair! That's not a good place for you to sleep! I'm not your bed!" His hand closed gently around Fig's body and he ever-so-carefully pulled up, which earned him a tenacious growl from Fig, who was quite content in his hair.

It wasn't anything new. Fig had a love for crawling on top of Vaughn's head and nesting in his hair. In fact, on his first day of school, his mother had found Fig resting in his messy hair and she had to pull her out, much to Fig's annoyance. It had taken a while for her to convince Vaughn that Fig certainly couldn't come to school with him, which he bawled about. But, knowing that he would miss school if he kept up his whining, his mom slipped Fig into a cozy pocket in Vaughn's backpack and sent him off. After all... it was only for a few hours. Which worked out okay, until Fig needed to relieve herself, which resulted in the backpack being lined with napkins and towels or anything that would absorb messes.

And ever since then... Fig had been going to school with Vaughn... discreetly. Even though he wasn't allowed to have her out, he always found himself gravitating towards his backpack with a little air hole formed by the zipper. When recess came around, Vaughn infamously stalled in the classroom as long as he could- petting Fig inside his backpack and awkwardly trying to peel open a yogurt cup for her... which he'd been told not to do, as it could spill or rot throughout the day.

Slightly annoyed, Vaughn sighed. But, he quickly peeked up when he spotted Anne and Eden. Anne was like a grandmother to him, a grandma that he never had. She always told colorful stories most nights- vivid tales of her heroic acts, or stories of her as a damsel in "distress". Fortunately for Vaughn, he was rather easily impressed, and he gobbled up Anne's tales like Fig gobbled up yogurt. He would always lean in closer at a particularly perilous part- dark eyes alight with curiosity, while his fingers slowly stroked Fig's soft back. He didn't think too much about the legitimacy of Anne's stories. After all, they were very entertaining for him to hear, and it sure beat the other members of the group droning on about "boring" things such as getting supplies, or fishing, or returning to the city. If Vaughn's ears had a filter, it certainly tuned out important information.

"Huh? Hat- oh," Vaughn paused for a moment. "You mean Fig, right? Yeah... she likes to sleep in my hair, but I don't like that! She even growled at me when I tried to pull her out!" Vaughn said, his voice suddenly becoming more animated. And with the soft stomp of his foot, he crossed his arms and let out an abrupt, "Hmpf!" as if Fig could understand the message that he was annoyed with her. He felt nothing more than Fig's body shifting slightly before settling back down.

He also took note of Eden trailing Anne. Despite her "ugly" looks, Vaughn was convinced that Eden was beautiful. He wasn't really sure if he liked her, especially when he used to squawk "pretty bird!" at Eden when he saw her. He realized he was stupid for doing that behind Anne's back last year, but he's moved on since, being glad to see her anyway. After all, she didn't seem too threatening in her old age, despite her sharp beak and her raptor-like talons. He at least figured if she'd wanted to peck or claw his eyes out, she would have done it long ago.

Shaking his head a little, Vaughn asked Anne in a smaller voice, "What are they talking about over there? I hope it's nothing about Fig," he said, feeling some worry for Fig, but not wanting to touch her to try and emphasize his point. If she wanted to nap in his hair, he had no choice but to let her.
