SIEGE ON OLYMPUS
A Literate-Advanced Feline/Canine Roleplay

Mod: InsertCleverNameHere

Ancient-Laur-Dividers-1a.png

A combat-centered nomadic pack of dogs who call themselves Trojans have been encroaching on Iliad's territory for moons, wanting to expand their rule. Though their numbers are lesser than Iliad's, their skill in battle is far greater. Will Iliad be able to defend Olympus from these canines? Will Iliad's diplomatic Empress be able to devise a truce? Or will the Trojans drive the felines from their ancient home?

The dogs of Troy are facing their own challenges. Their General, Mars, a brutal and tactical male, has fallen ill in his old age. In his absence, he has enlisted his young sons, Romulus and Remus, to take over the campaign. However, the brothers are little more than amateurs in the field of war and have made constant mistakes in planning and strategy, costing lives and slowing Troy's campaign. Will this be the Trojans' downfall?

A light breeze passes through the trees and produces calm ripples across the crystal water, bringing with it the smell of the ocean and the faintest hint of feline to the north. The Trojans, after walking for days, have settled here for the time being but will likely pick back up on the Campaign in a week's time. They are slightly relieved to not have to chase anyone out of this territory for once. Remus leads the slow charge onto the beach and Romulus is surely nearby.

"Pride, envy, avarice - these are the sparks have set on fire the hearts of all men."

Remus • Male • General • 3 years • Forest ⇻ Beach
Mentions: OPEN

Sweet, salty air punched Remus's nose as he broke onto the serene beach, thick foliage leaving long streaks of disrupted fur along his sides. His paws sunk into the soft sand as soon as he put weight on them, covering them in pale grains. Blue water lapped against the beach, inviting seagulls to dip down and snatch small crustaceans from the active tides. The doberman's features showed no hint of a smile, but as he moved forward, trotting gracefully, his contentedness was obvious. A large boulder stood resilient at the north-west corner of the beach, prompting Remus to switch directions and plant himself firmly atop the boulder — leaving room for Romulus should he decide to join his brother. The male stood tall, his strong physique flexed. His pointed ears perched high upon his head, pointing forward at attention. But as he inhaled, a stern look crossed his handsome face. Cats. The smell of Iliad was carried faintly over the breeze, bringing with it a hunger that rumbled in the depths of his chest.

Proserpina | Female | Medic | 3 years | edge of beach | Mentions: Remus (passing) other than that Open

Proserpina had her paws crossed and her head down, often she enjoyed the sounds of the water rushing about it deeply relaxed her. Her ridge was down at the moment and her eyes traced every wave as the canine relaxed. Her gaze of the serene water was shortly interrupted, Remus. It seemed he was on a morning trot, she had noticed that Dobermans like him seemed to move with such grace that it was nearly just a glide across the ground. Proserpina stood as he headed towards the opposite corner of the beach. Curiously she moved closer without actually approaching the male, instead she stood with her paws in the cool water her nose up and her eyes shut as she sniffed the breeze, she caught onto the cats too but she preference the focus on the crisp air from the water.

Andromeda | F Hunter | Thicket of tree near Beach | Mentions: Remus, Proserpina (ID)

Emerald gaze narrowed, elegant earthen shaded form flattened into a hunting crouch of a refined master, the lone female inched her bodice forward an inch at a time. Her sight fixated on the twitching form of a yearling buck, its succulent flesh just calling to her like a siren as she itched to taste its delicious flesh and crush the thin bones between her bridgework and suckle on the sweet marrow inside. Ears perked forward and still as they moved to listen to the sounds around her crouched form, she heard the familiar paw falls of the oh so mighty general and one of his little fans. Ofcourse she addressed all females that were in vicinity a fan of his and the other half of him. Although she did have respect for their father, Mars, as he was a respectable male, these two have yet to prove their worth to the rest of the clan. She has seen their failures and heard of other attempts in battle they have lost along with many good soldiers. Focusing her mind back on her prize, Andromeda had rested herself two yards from her kill, her lean mass of muscle flexing beneath her silken coat as she readied herself for the strike and possible chase. Silent as the wind she had sprung forth, talons ready and lethal bridgework bared as she pounced upon the unsuspecting buck and latched upon its backside with her jaws clenched upon the back of its neck. It let out a loud but pitiful cry for help that the others would no doubt hear before a satisfying crunch echoed after it as she shook her head violently and snapped its neck ending its life and supplying her own. She'd share with the others.. but she tracked it all morning and wanted to roll in its innards and blood alone this morning. Howling her victory with her alluring vocals, she pranced upon her kill in her own victory dance, shredding its flesh before she dug into her kill. Blood splattered up her limbs and across her muzzle and neck as she chewed on the delicious fatty meat and filled her gut.

(XD She's just a bitch. Don't take it personally.)

Diana
Female || 1 Year, 8 Months || Apprentice
Location: Beach || Mentions: Remus, Romulus (Open)

Diana was excited. She was excitable anyway, always wanting to be on the move and loving exploring new places, but she had never been on a beach before. The sand stuck to her paws and fur, and the smell of the water stung, but that was really quite trivial; it was the act itself of coming here that mattered. Ahead of her, Remus leapt onto a boulder and stood at attention, drawing her interest. She herself hadn't been in many fights because she was so young, and less of a fighter than a runner, but she had heard the adults talk. Not many of them seemed to think too highly of him and his brother as leaders. The grizzled female supposed she couldn't make that sort of judgement, being as young as she was, but she did look up to them as warriors.

A gull crying loudly nearby snapped Diana out of her thoughts, and she bounded towards the feathered creature. It raised its wings and flew up in a panic, but not before her jaws closed on a few tail feathers; she watched it rise up, cawing indignantly, with said feathers in her mouth. She liked this new area, and was tempted to go off and explore. Even though they had only just arrived, the light-eyed female was full of energy, but thought suddenly that one of the soldiers might want her for training, and that it would be better not to wander too far. Still, there was plenty to check out within sight of the adults, and she planned to do so.

Victoria
Female || 1 Year || Apprentice
Location: Beach || Mentions:

As pretty as the beach was, with the blue ocean and picturesque plants, Victoria didn't trust it. It was too... quiet. One the other hand, however, it meant that any enemies would be heard easily, and the open scenery would expose anything trying to hide. The large white female nearly stalked forward on the sand, glancing about her at the other canines. The mood was hard to read, and the scent of cats was faintly detectable on the salt breeze.

A little ways away she saw Diana, an older apprentice, goofing off with a seagull, and stared for a moment before continuing forward; the other female seemed to flighty to be planning anything. Plans... she didn't know what the Trojan leaders had planned. Lately there had been more fights lost than won; something she was not used to, as she had won all her fights since a very young age. That didn't bode well. Victoria supposed if it got too bad she could always grab her sister and run, but her mother... Best not to think about that right then. Her dark eyes scanned the beach in front of her again, watching.

[ Romulus ]
Male • 3 Years • Doberman Pinscher • General
Location: Beach • Mentions: {D} Remus

Romulus exited the surrounding foliage beside his brother, sleek coat subtly ruffled from squeezing between bushes, thorns and pointed leaves caught in his pelt. Grunting with annoyance, his body gave a violent shake to free himself of the unwanted vegetation. It was clear he did not share Remus’ content. Had his cropped ears been capable of it they would have pulled back against his skull, the feeling of sand rising between his toes as he walked unappealing and bothersome. The strong scent of cat drifting toward him on the breeze brought a sneer to his face as he trailed after Remus, his body language making his poor mood quite obvious.

Pulling himself upward to take his place next to his brother atop the boulder, he stood with his near blind eye facing Remus and the other scanning the beach. Remus was the only dog he would trust near his visually impaired side, any other canine foolish enough to approach him rewarded by a fearsome snarl and snapping teeth. “How much time do you believe we should spend here before moving on?” He inquired gruffly, paws itching to keep moving forward despite the weariness pulling at his limbs, begging for rest. “I suppose we need to feed them first,” he muttered, motioning to their dogs spread out among the beach.

[ Vulcan ]
Male • 4 Years • Borzoi • Soldier
Location: Beach • Mentions: {D} Victoria

Gentle waves lapped at Vulcan’s legs and chest, the water’s salty scent clinging to his pelt even as he waded back to shore, moving across the sand to rejoin his comrades. The sun warmed his back, quickly drying his soaked fur. He had hoped to catch some fish, but the ocean was far too vast. He would need to locate a tidepool. Finding and capturing prey would be easier among the rocks. The dogs rarely had a chance to fish, but it was lucky a trick he had picked up in his homeland that proved useful when the opportunity presented itself.

Deep brown eyes gazed across the beach, landing shortly after on one of the apprentices. Vulcan was aware the girl had violent tendencies, but she could hardly be blamed considering her backstory. Besides, such actions were often encouraged among this pack. The more vicious the dog the more they were celebrated it seemed. He waited to catch Victoria's eye, beckoning her closer with a sway of his long-furred taii. It was time she made some lasting connections within the pack outside of her own kin. "I'm going hunting," he declared once she had approached. "Would you like to learn how to fish?"

Sancus | Four |Giant Schnauzer | Soldier| Mentions: [I] Remus, Romulus. [D] Andromeda

Sancus had woken long before the sun, finding himself a place to remain unbothered until he chose to make himself present to the others. The soldier stood, shaking out his coat and looking around. The place they had found provided a reprieve from the endless, unnecessary trekking their leaders were forcing the whole pack to endure. As of now, he was fine with being idle, as he didn't think either Romulus or Remus had any idea what they were doing. Never the less, he was a good soldier and was determined to keep that title, though he wouldn't be quite the little puppet he was sure the brothers were expecting.

With great reluctance, he left his place, large paws clinging to the dirt under him. He huffs, beginning to walk toward the rest of the pack aimlessly. His ears perked as the unmistakable cry of something being killed reached them. Intrigued, he padded in the direction of the sharp noise. He made it in time to see the huntress put on quite the show, watching from behind. He could guess the female sensed his presence, but he waited to interrupt. "Andromeda, darling, didn't anyone ever tell you you shouldn't play with your food?" He asked in his deep baritone, amusement coloring his tone. His posture was casual as he drew closer, not as interested in the meal as he was the bitch who possessed it. She was ruthless, and a bit unhinged, and he found himself drawn to that.

Remus • Male • General • 3 years • Forest ⇻ Beach

Remus's careful eyes followed his brother as he too broke through the thicket, shaking the burrs and wayward twigs from his fur. A smirk drew itself across the male's face as a scowl crossed Romulus's. So he smelled the felines too. He knew that the other male would want to head out as soon as possible, hungry for the cats' blood and the power of their territory. As well, it seemed, he did not enjoy the sand as much as his twin did. The taller canine carried himself slightly like a moping pup until he rounded the boulder and climbed beside Remus, his milky eye facing his twin. The smaller brother turned his face slightly as his sibling spoke, his dark brown eyes glancing toward Romulus. "A week would be best, I imagine," he murmured, "To allow for some leisure, but to make sure they don't to get too acquainted to this beach." Romulus's next comment forced a chuckle to bubble up from Remus's throat. "I suppose we do," he replied, standing and balancing nobly atop the boulder, "Can't have our soldier's starving, can we?" With a low bark, the doberman aimed to attract all ears toward himself. "Dogs!," he bellowed, "Assemble hunting parties immediately and find prey. We must eat."

Bona Dea • Female • Soldier • 3 years, 1 month • Forest ⇻ Beach ⇻ Forest
Mentions: Andromeda, Sancus

Following a ways behind the twins, Bona Dea moved at a leisurely pace, trotting gracefully through the thick foliage. Bothersome as ever, thorns raked along her pallid fur and created shallow trenches in its usual sleekness. Her tall, curved ears caught several irritating thorns, leaving faint scratches that marred the fragile fleshy pink of the skin. Finally, the pack broke onto a small beach, the sun beating down upon their backs. The previously smooth sand was soon littered in pawprints, many indistinguishable from each other now that they had been trampled over. Grumbling quietly to herself, the female squinted and turned her narrow head away from the bright light, shielding her sensitive blue eyes. As a cloud drifted carelessly in front of the blinding light, Bona Dea lifted her head and strolled across the beach, allowing her hips to swing minutely and her paws to fall in slow, graceful succession. She dipped her delicate paws into the water for a moment, only to find it chilly and uncomfortable and leave again. Just as she began plotting to strut promiscuously by the Generals — who, to her, were entertaining to watch in their failures — a shriek erupted from the thick forest, forcing the harlot's elegant head to snap in that direction and her ears to stand even straighter upon her skull. Without hesitation, Bona Dea struck up a quick trot and broke into the treeline, shade becoming a welcome relief as opposed to the violent sun that lurked on the beach. As she approached, the song of a successful hunt exploded through the air. The cream female couldn't help but quicken her pace, soon spying the caramel form of Andromeda, a fellow beauty. Across the way, another soldier's midnight form stood and appeared to just have spoken. "Oh dear," she purred, slinking from behind a tree into the space, "You know what they say: Two's company, three's a crowd. But it looks to me that your expert catch is just enough to feed a crowd, yes?"

Angerona | Female | Soldier | 2 Years | Dutch Shepherd
Mentions: Remus, Romulus [Both Indirectly]

A black-pelted, shadowy figure moved elegantly through the foliage by the side of the beach, carefully avoiding areas that were more sandy than others. Unlike many other of the dogs in the group, Angerona wasn't a big fan of this new, temporary territory. The openness made her uncomfortable, and the salty smell of the water invaded her senses. So that was why she tried to focus her attention on another, more subtle smell laced into the saline scent of the beach - cats. A rush of excitement ran through the fae as she thought of the upcoming battle with the felines. Being rather young compared to other soldiers, she hadn't been able to fight much yet, and she was eager to prove that she was a worthy opponent on the battlefield. She understood that Remus and Romulus definitely needed as much time as they could get to plan out their battle strategy, as recently they hadn't been doing very well, but she felt like a fight was a perfect distraction from her current issue. It had only been about a week since her father had ran off, and since then Angerona had been spending far too much time pacing around on her own, lost in her thoughts. Her gaze slowly moved over to Remus and Romulus. One look at Romulus and Angerona knew he felt like she did about the beach, and she couldn't help but let out a small huff of amusement. Remus, however, looked rather content with himself 'Even though he's the reason my father took off.' As soon as she realized what she had just thought, Angerona shook her head, 'No, my father abandoned the Trojans because he's a coward. I can't blame that on my Generals.' She shoved the intrusive thoughts out her her mind and padded closer to Remus as he called for the Soldiers to sort themselves into hunting parties.

With any luck, Angerona would be able to slip away unnoticed and not have to join a group. She didn't exactly mind the company of others, and if another dog asked her to join them she wouldn't say no, but she just preferred to hunt on her own. She was aware that it came with a few safety issues, but she was confident that she'd be able to find enough to feed herself on her own.

Cupid| Female| Loner| 8 Months|Location: Edge of the Beach |Mentions: Everyone on the Beach

The pup's dainty paws thudded against the ground beneath them as she ran, eyes narrowed and focused. The little rat was fast, but she knew she could be faster. She hadn't seen a decent meal in days, and the rat would be the perfect thing to tide her over until her next meal. Her little jaws snapped as she neared it, grabbing the creature and forcing her maw shut around it. The thing could only squeak. She quite enjoyed her small meal, leaving nothing for the scavengers, before she was moving once again, jumping up onto a rather flat rock with the intention of napping, but something caught her attention. She sniffed the air, cocking her head to the side as she caught the scent of other dogs.

She hadn't seen any other dogs since her mother left, and by the smell of it there were many of them, and Cupid couldn't help her growl. Others always meant bad news, from what she'd learned, but her childish curiosity pushed her to follow the scent, crouched low with her tail tucked, slinking through the trees and toward the beach. From her position she could see at least four dogs, two of whom looked quite similar to one another. She debated for a moment whether or not she should step out of the relative safety of the treeline, or stay and run the other way.

Diana
Female || 1 Year, 8 Months || Apprentice
Location: Beach || Mentions: Angerona

Diana's attention was pulled away from exploration when Remus barked, giving orders to hunt. Her ears perked up; she loved to hunt. The time spent tracking, the initial jump, the chase... and when she sunk her teeth into her prey's throat. Knowing she likely needed a soldier with her, despite her being one of the oldest apprentices, the grizzled female looked around quickly, spotting a familiar figure closer to the forest. Kicking up sand, Diana practically leapt into as much of a striding run as her short legs would allow.

"Angerona! Do you mind if I hunt with you?" She asked, tail wagging eagerly as she skid to a stop. The two of them had been apprentices together for a while, and as well as she liked the other soldiers, it was nice to have a soldier that was nearer to her own age, who had gone with some of the training with her. The other female had always been so focused and determined, something Diana had always admired. "

Victoria
Female || 1 Year || Apprentice
Location: Beach || Mentions: Vulcan

Victoria didn't know what to think when the soldier, Vulcan, waved her over with his tail. He had never seemed particularly violent, and that wasn't how fights began typically, but... Why would he want her to come over there? Battle training would be difficult on such slippery terrain, though she supposed that was a reason in itself to do it. Slowly, she stepped towards him, weary of approaching too close to the ocean with its strong tides, her unevenly docked ears back slightly.

They raised a little when Vulcan asked her if she'd like to learn to hunt fish; asked, not ordered? She still had to get used to that. In Rome, she did what the humans ordered, or died; they did not ask what she wanted. The concept of fish intrigued her, and made her suspicious at the same time. It was a meat that she had never had before, as she had always either had red meat scraps or some fresh rodent, maybe deer. The action sounded dangerously close to swimming, something she could not do terribly well, but... Victoria nodded. "Sure."

[ Romulus ]
Male • 3 Years • Doberman Pinscher • General
Location: Beach • Mentions: {D} Remus, Andromeda, Bona Dea, Sancus

A week. Romulus snorted, but didn’t disagree. Without Remus at his side he likely would have driven himself and their dogs into the ground by now. Once he was consumed by a task it was difficult to redirect that focus to other needs such as feeding or rest. In need of a distraction, he slipped from his perch to join the hunters, trudging across the sand, ignoring the protesting soreness of his aching paws and sore muscles.

He wasn’t about to go floundering around among the waves in search of seafood as he had seen some of the others doing, instead starting for the treeline. He had detected prey on the way to the beach, but ignored it at the time and the fresh scent of blood in the air signified a recent kill. His teeth bared, outraged one of his dogs had made a kill and not shared it with the rest of them. Romulus marched toward the death scent, peering through the trees until three of his soldiers were spotted. A rough bark exited his maw, letting them know they’d been caught.

He paused before entering the clearing, eyeing the carcass and gore staining Andromeda’s pelt red. His lip curled again, teeth glistening. "You have been most fortunate. Remus will be pleased to see your hard work," he snarled, the command and threat clear in his voice before turning his back on the trio. If they still thought it wise to keep that kill to themselves after he had seen them he would be eager to dish out punishments when they returned to the beach without it. The two females especially could use a reminder of who was in charge.

The shade of the forest was a welcome reprieve from the beach, relieved to feel solid earth beneath his paws again. His mood improved the more distance he put between himself and the scent of salt water. His stomach cramped with hunger and he realized for the first time since arriving how hungry he was. “Perhaps a break was in order,” he muttered grudgingly.

Vulcan’s ears perked, his attention turning to the generals briefly as an order to hunt was given. ’Two steps ahead of you Remus,’ he thought in mild amusement, returning his attention to Victoria, pleased to find the young dog had accepted his invitation. “Splendid. Let’s be off then." He moved back to the shoreline, close enough that the waves lapped at his white paws. “We’re looking for a tidepool,” he explained,

"It'll be easier to catch fish in a smaller space compared to the endless lake. We might have a bit of a walk ahead of us." Vulcan led Victoria well away from the pack, the other dogs soon blurs in the distance. He gazed at the apprentice calmly, searching her face for any sign of unease or hostility. She hadn't been with the pack long enough to know they could be trusted yet and he hoped to dispel her worries if there were any to be found.

At last a rocky formation branching out from the ocean caught his attention and his pace quickened, leaving the sand behind for rough stone. "Careful now, it's slippery," he warned before creeping to the edge of a wide pool caught between the rocks,

Angerona | Female | Soldier | 2 Years | Dutch Shepherd
Mentions: Diana [Directly]

Hearing her name being called out, Angerona turned her head with a slight scowl on her muzzle. However, her expression softened slightly when she recognized the smaller dog that was speeding towards her. Diana was only a couple of months younger than her, and the two had gone on some training sessions together. Though she found her a bit hyper, the few times the two had interacted Angerona had actually found her company rather enjoyable. So if she had to go hunting with anyone, she would like it to be Diana. Besides, it would be nice not to have an older dog along with her, because even though she was a soldier now, she was still often treated like one because of her age. "No, I don't mind at all." She replied, smiling down at the other female, "Come, let's go before one of the other soldiers try to tag along." She had a bit of a mischievous glint in her eyes as she spoke, reminding herself of her times as an apprentice where she'd try to sneak out to go hunting on her own. She quickly began to pad towards the forest, anxious to get away from the openness and salty scent of the beach, only looking back momentarily to make sure Diana was following.
