Welcome to Service Dog Handlers of Lioden! If you're interested in joining, just click the link above. If you want to learn more about us and the clan, keep reading - the "About Us" section is a pretty quick but informative way to get a debrief of the action! Just remember, everyone is welcome; so don't feel like you need to own a service dog, or even an animal of any kind to join! Our goal is support, education and awareness!

About Us

Service Dog Handlers of Lioden was created on January 4th, 2018! The goal of this clan is to act as an on-site support network for current and former handlers, to raise awareness and educate those curious about what service dogs do and how important they are to their handlers! But we don't just welcome service dogs - use a mini pony? Have an ESA? We welcome those too! Basically, we're people who have had our freedom returned to us by some really smart critters!

FAQ

Q: How do I join?
A: Just click the link provided at the top! You can also click HERE

Q: I don't have a service dog and don't need one! Can I join?
A: Yes! Everyone is welcome. As long as you remain respectful and abide by both our rules and the lioden ToS, you're more than welcome to hang out, join the discussion or lend a hand!

Q: Is all you guys talk about your service dogs?
A: Nope. As long as it abides by ToS/Forum rules, you can chat to your hearts content. Brag about your new stud :P.

Q: Service dogs and ESAs are different, but you say you welcome their (ESAs) handlers here?
A: Yep! As said before, everyone is welcome. If you recieve animal assistance of any kind, you're included under that umbrella, but understand - Service dogs and ESAs do not have the same public access levels as one another!

NEWS

1/5/2018- If you're interested in becoming an admin, please message me! No form is required but I'd appreciate a little information about yourself and your experience, because as an admin it will be your job to help moderate this thread and educate members about assistance animals! You are NOT required to own an assistance animal of any kind, however. As an admin, you should be capable of keeping a level head, unable to be drawn into arguments and basically someone people can trust to go to for advice :)

I've been independently researching rats for my own curiosity and I definitely believe that efficiency wise it would be that for Diabetes and allergies, even certain psychiatric disabilities, dependent on the person, it would be terrific and far less intrusive and attention grabbing. The issue is definitely more towards their life expectancy and how fast they can be trained for their task, imo, but with the average life expectancy of pets overall increasing I think it would be something worth a shot.

Hm that's true they do only live a couple years, so it would have to depend on how much training they would need for their particular job. But I mean yeah they'd be pretty unintrusive in most situations and they don't require much more than a lil chew toy to just hang out in someone's pocket for a few hours.

And wow sugar gliders! All of the sugar gliders I've met have been a pain in the butt, but they sure are pretty dang cute <3

Stinky I would also do something like a “puppy time out” when he acts like this. Get a leash, tie it up around something sturdy, like a heavy table leg or a sturdy doorknob, and leave him there until he settles on his own. He will need to learn how to settle. To me it sounds like a puppy who needs to learn to redirect his mouthy-ness and change the tude. Remember when nipping during play/in general to redirect to chewing on something acceptable to chew on. When play gets too rough use the puppy time out.

I still agree with Kindred to get a behavioral consult, but these are things you can do in the meantime until you can get the behaviorist involved.

I was diagnosed with PTSD not too long ago. I also have anxiety and depression, and even though my dog, Wade failed his assessment, he still helps me out a lot. I am in the process of starting training for my Doberman Pinscher puppy, Logan. He is only about 13 weeks old though.
He still needs quite a bit of work with house training, but he is just a puppy after all.

He’s already a bit moody. He’s a sweet little guy but now he attacks whenever we step into the house after a walk.
