***I'm aware that I need to update the base groups due to new bases being added. Its...a lot of work, and takes a while. I have to find the time to be able to.

Ok so. The genetics don't make sense rofl. WHY is Black a Countershaded base but Solaris and Ruffian are Solid??? That makes absolutely NO sense. Why is Hellebore a Solid when it's nearly a recolor of Hallowed, a Countershaded?

I suggest bases be grouped the way that they actually look, instead of (what I assume is actually happening) "Well this group needs more so... here??". If a group needs more bases, make bases that fit into that group. I suggest that when/if this is done, a bunch of bases be released to fill in some missing places, like in the Red Solids.
Might this disrupt a few projects? Sure, but it makes more sense.

From the perspective of a newbie, I'm sure, as it stands, the grouping is EXTRAORDINARILY confusing and difficult to grasp. Even as someone that has been playing for nearly 5 years, I'm constantly surprised by how the admins choose to group bases that clearly do not go into the group they've chosen.

Here are how the groups SHOULD be, I believe (excuse the bases not being in common/uncommon/rare/special order, I frankly just didn't have the strength to fix it rofl)

Black Countershaded;

And they even wouldn't need to release that much from the get go. The only group that would really need additional bases would be Black CS Light since it lacks commons (and maybe also Red Solid Light, 'cause those two lonely bases in it look kinda sad xD), but new common bases could be just medium ones' lighter recolours. Everything else could be just gradually added later.

The only thing I'd change in your grouping would be moving some bases from CS to Solid. I mean, we have bases that aren't even as much countershaded as multicolored, so I think we could also have slightly looser definition of what's solid. Obviously Locust or Labradorite aren't, but bases like Maroon, Slate or Hematite imo fits with solid bases way better than with all those Sunrises or Divines.
Well, that and also Madagascar and Rhodonite imo don't look Red at all, but it seems I'm the only one to have that issue.

Yes please. As a new player, it's been rather confusing trying to learn genetics

I know that staff say they put things into the groups that need more bases, which I guess I get.. but can we maybe do a little shuffle around to put them in groups that make /sense/? We have a lot of bases now. I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to fix up the bases and also keep the groups fairly even.

Like uh.. why is sandy a red base? Why is /cremello/ a red base?? Why is rosy brown black? Like I guess Vandal/Dikela/Chestnut can stay because fine; brown falls into black, but rosy brown is so pinkish. Haze shouldn't be solid. I'd argue that Solaris should be red too. Labradorite being solid is ridiculous.

Just.. maybe fix it up a little bit? And then, once it's been evened out, just be careful with what bases are added when. Simple fix.

"they put things into the groups that need more bases"
I still just,,, don't understand why their logic is "well, that group needs a base so lETS PUT THIS BASE THAT DOESN'T FIT AT ALL IN IT" instead of "since that group needs more bases, let's focus on making some bases that fit that group"

Yeah no me neither? I really don't get why they choose to do it that way. But that's always the explanation when this is brought up XP

Also, a small side note: Bast would have to stay in golden, because it needs to be able to produce Gilded with the other two bases - if it and Seth are both red then it can't produce a golden base. Unless the combo ignores genetics.

Combo bases ignore genetics, they roll separately, so moving Bast would be fine. :)

Support!

However, correct me if I'm wrong please (I've been on hiatus so long I didn't see a lot of news posts or the updates. hoo was this a trip to come back to a genetics rehaul that didn't even make any more sense), but weren't the Admins planning an entirely new genetic group addition? Some kind of 4th thing to shove all the random bases in, like the blues, interstellars, etc. to help out with things that didn't really go anywhere? (Was it Ultraviolet?? That sounds right but also wrong..) If anyone knows the news post, I'd love to have the link again, but I remember it being mentioned and on one of those polls they do. I also agree that some bases are in very, very wonky spots.

edit: IRIDESCENT!! Thanks to LD chat for helping there. lol They said people voted it out, though. :/

Haze, for one; not a dark solid. Not even a light solid, but it'd fit there better than dark. And how is Interstellar or Nuumite solid?? Hellebore looks too purply for cream, Teardrop too pinkish for cream but too cream for red, and Solaris also seems to be in the middle of red and cream. Bast and Anubis, as well as Chatoyant and Trophy, also seem very dark for cream to begin with. Unreleased Taupe set to go into Red Countershaded Light? Isn't that, well, Taupe? Creamy? Bloodbourne is also solid, for some reason. You could go on and on here, but you already covered it, ofc. lol I can't imagine where they'll place the new event bases.

As someone who was around for the genetics haul, players will get over it. It doesn't ruin lives to switch things around. I admit I was pissed with the original genetics haul. All the money I had spent on my King, only to get rid of him b/c of the genetic category he was changed to, only for it to be reverted back (I'm looking at you Inferno) but I got over it. I would much rather the bases be in their proper places. In fact I'm much more upset that we started the whole genetics haul to fix this sort of confusion and the Admins somehow defeated the whole purpose by placing bases in categories that don't even match. We wouldn't even have to have the idea of a second genetics haul if the bases were put in their proper categories to begin with.

EDIT - Not trying to be rude here or anything. Just...wanted to point something out that I saw.

Please know I support this. 200%. The genetics needs an overhaul - badly. And while I am not defending the admins. (sorry to the admins who are reading this, but the genetics doesn't make sense when a base doesn't fit what it's in), I am simply stating what I've noticed and what I /think/ the admins are trying to do based upon the bases and the current groups they are in.

With this, we will be taking the Lab base and the Red genetics group as examples:

The bases are where they are because of how the staff goes about in making the base - i.e. the colors. What I mean by this is how the base is colored.

Take the Labradorite base as an example. Why is it in the solid group, even though it clearly doesn't look like it should belong there? Because the colors that make up this base are solid. There is little, if any, blur between the colors and you can easily pick out the colors of this base.
labradorite.png

Haze is another example - sort of. Haze clearly looks like it belongs to the countershade part. Not solid. But - to argue my point I'm using it. It is in the solid base because enough of that base has solid colors. And while, yes, there is clear evidence of blur and smoothing from color to color, it isn't done enough (say like with Sunset or Sunrise where the colors bleed into one another) as to make the base countershaded.
haze.png

Feel free to throw bases my way and make me explain it. I'm more then up for the challenge. And like I stated above - I'm not in any defending our beloved staff members. I'm just merely pointing out what I've noticed. I still think and believe that the genetics needs a massive overhaul as it is and give my 200% support with this suggestion. And on the note - WHY IS INTERSTELLAR IN SOLID GENETICS ??????

My placing isn't an end all be all. At the end of the day, this is my opinion and if the admins decide to do anything about this they can place the bases themselves. At this point I'm not going to be changing around the bases anymore. It's more work for me than its really worth, considering I know not all of it will be considered anyway.

It looks simple, but editing these took A LOT of work and I just don't want to mess with them more than I already have. Feel free to suggest moving bases in the comments, but I won't be editing my images anymore.

This isn't to be rude, it's just 1:30 am here right now and I can't be assed to read my own tone pfffffff
