Long ago, many lifetimes before the events of Wolf Winters, the Cliff Pack was less like a democracy and more like a dictatorship. Powerful wolves born with supernatural powers ruled a huge stretch of territory that encompassed mountains, forests, meadows, rivers, and lakes. The pack that they drove out clung to existence on the edge of the pack's territory, living in the prey-barren places no-one else wanted. But some of the younger wolves from those edge packs have had enough. They are done with their current life, and are going to step up to change it.

East Wind Pack:
The largest and healthiest of the edge packs, though not large by normal standards. They have about a dozen adult wolves in hunting condition.

Southward Pack:
The smallest of the three surviving packs, the Southward pack survives by moving constantly. They have four adult wolves.

Tundra Pack:
The tundra pack lives on a tundra that is partly hidden by mountains. The wolves in it have evolved longer fur and smaller ears to help them survive in the frigid temperatures and constant chill wind. They have eight adult wolves.
