Variable Features

Subrae hounds have a variety of different features. They typically have long, thin legs and a dog-like snout. Other than that, their appearance is random.

*If something is only available through breeding, it means that there is a random chance for that trait to appear when you breed two Subrae Hounds together! Once that trait appears, there is a higher chance for it to pass to offspring.

Breeding Mechanics

Breeding Restrictions

Subrae hounds are genderless, so any two can breed and produce offspring! However, if they are related, they will be unable to produce pups due to a lack of genetic diversity. Subrae hounds can only breed five times. Then, they become barren and cannot breed anymore. If a pup dies before it reaches adulthood, it also cannot breed.

Trait Passing

Bases and Markings

-35% chance to produce bases or markings similar (BUT NOT EXACT) to parent 1.
-35% chance to produce bases or markings similar (BUT NOT EXACT) to parent 2.
-20% chance to produce a mixture of both parents' bases or markings.
-10% chance for a spontaneous color mutation that changes the base or markings to something new.

Body Parts

-40% chance to inherit body part from parent 1.
-40% chance to inherit body part from parent 2.
-20% chance for a random bodily mutation.*

*Bodily mutations would be body parts that are not customizable or buyable, such as Rat tail, Beak nose, or Buck horns. If a parent has a bodily mutation, that trait will pass with a 40% chance rather than a 20% chance and the second parent will have a 60% chance to pass their trait. If both parents are mutated or there is not a mutation for the part available, there will be a plain 50% chance for each parent's trait to pass.

Amount of Pups Produced

When two Subrae hounds mate, they can produce 2 pups (one from each parent). However, it is possible to get 4 total pups if a certain breeding item is used that allows a parent to carry 2 pups. This item only works on individual hounds, so if you use it on only one parent, you will get 3 pups. If you use it on both, you get 4.

Breeding Cooldowns

Once Subrae hounds have bred, it will take 3 days for them to give birth. It could take more though, if I have IRL stuff to deal with. Sorry for any inconveniences if that happens!

After the birth of the pups, both parents will have to take care of the pups. They will be on a cooldown for 2 weeks (14 days). You can choose to separate the pups from one parent to lessen the breeding cooldown for it while increasing the cooldown for the other parent. If you do that, the parent that has to take care of the pups will have their cooldown increased to 3 weeks (21 days) and the free parent will have theirs lessened to 1 week (7 days).

The pups will also have a 70% chance- rather than 100% if both parents rear them- of surviving to adulthood If you dump the pups on one parent. Keep this in mind!

Pup Growth

Pups have two stages planned! Newborn stage is the first and it doesn't show many traits. Kid stage is the next and shows more. Horns will not be fully developed until adulthood, but you can guess what horns they could have if you know what to look for!

The pups stay in each stage for a week (7 days). On their 15th day of life, they will be fully grown! Woo!

I do not have the newborn and kid stages ready, so pups will pop out looking like adults for now, lol. Yay, you don't have to wait to find out their traits! They still have a chance of dying if you switch them to one parent, though.

Pup Deaths

If you moved the pups to one parent, they will have an increased risk of dying. There are two checkpoints that they must pass in order to survive. Checkpoint 1 is at the end of their first week of life (day 7). Checkpoint 2 is at the end of their second week of life (day 14).

If a pup does not successfully pass through one of the checkpoints, they will die. You can keep all art of of the pup, including adult art that would reveal what the pup's traits would have been if they survived. However, you cannot breed with it. That is the only repercussion.
