a crackle of lightning. the droning ambience of the cloudburst perfused the atmosphere.
a sudden flash of black and ticked blue collided with each other. aggressive, guttural growls broke the awning silence that developed between the opponents.

dull ungues met one another’s hides donned with thick, tinctured plumage that repelled the water droplets that fell down from the gloomy storm clouds overhead and the debris that was torn from the earth that stood beneath the battling canids.

as the two canines entangled themselves into a violent skirmish, the pandemonium of the downpour engulfed the vegetation that encircled the tussling wolves.

it was only a matter of time until the fighting wolves broke apart; the blue-furred canid tumbled away from their dark-pelted opponent in a hopeful attempt to regain some of their energy so they could defeat their adversary and bring their triumph back to their pack.

“surrendering so soon, kenya?” the black-furred wolf sneered, arching their back and circling the crouched she-wolf. the ticked blue she-wolf glowered up at the giant brute. “never!” kenya snarled, springing up to her paws and launching herself toward the male.

barreling him over, she dug her sharp, needle-like claws into the sides of his shoulders, watching as the sanguine fluid that filled his body well up around her claws. a pained growl emanated from Kenya’s rival. trying to get her off, the brute flung his head upwards and tried to clench his jaws around her neck, but failed when kenya beat him to it and dug her canines deep into his jugular.

“good-bye, crow.” kenya whispered, the tone of her voice laced with triumph. a smirk illuminated her blood-spattered muzzle as she watched crow create an ominous gurgling noise as blood bubbled from his mouth and ran down the sides of his face. it only took a brief breadth of time for him to officially perish.

removing herself from her now deceased rival, she drew back several steps before flinging her head skywards and emitting a triumphant howl that reverberated throughout the clearing and the forest surrounding it.
