Hello. Needing advice about a potential YLH auction.

(hope this is the right forum..) I'm contemplating auctioning off this w.i.p as a single Your Lion Here art. I've not done that before so I need some advice from people more familiar with the process. Any help is greatly appreciated!

- How long exactly should I hold an auction?
- How much should I make the SB and AB?
- What should the min/max Increasement of each bid be?
- Should I allow Items to be included/split in bids?
- Any other advice you can offer?

Or, should I not auction it at all - perhaps recolors instead?

Would this be more beneficial to make recolors? That would be a whole new set of questions, as I haven't done recolors in years.. Sorry, I am very indecisive and anxious about this. Thank you for your time!

The w.i.p in question:

(sorry about the watermark; the image of course would be much larger too.)

I saw your art today and was hoping you'd open up some sort of commission eventually! Absolutely stunning.

I think people would like a YLH more since it's a bit more personalized! As far as your questions go:

- How long exactly should I hold an auction?
I'd say 2 weeks or so, but any range of 1-4 weeks would also be a good timeframe! You could even do a flash auction for 3 days or so if you want? I almost guarantee it'd have a ton of interest, unless it was USD/cash only, which not everyone has :)

- How much should I make the SB and AB?
This question is a bit easier to answer if you've sold commissions before, either for USD or not! 300 GB would be a fair AB I think. Not quite low enough that someone is likely to snatch it up without bidding, but still a fair value imo!

- What should the min/max Increasement of each bid be?
Depends on how much your AB is :D 5 GB is a good minimum increment I think, and I don't think I'd add a max increment personally.

- Should I allow Items to be included/split in bids?
Do you want items? ^^ If not, don't worry about it! There will be people who will bid even without items. It'd be up to you which items you'd be interested in. I've seen people set it up so that at least half of the value of the bid has to be pure GB.

- Any other advice you can offer?
Make more art! I want all of it! :3 In all seriousness, "Jellyfish decor" - aka, custom decor of players' kings designed to be used with a translucent jellyfish item, has become really popular lately. If you want to delve into that, you'll definitely get some interest!

Hello again Rob! You made a piece for me awhile ago ( primal lion with tropical birds! ) so I'm delighted to see your art once more!

- How long exactly should I hold an auction?
I would say it definitely depends on how much interest you're getting. But typically they last 1-3 weeks, or you can pull it when the last bid hasn't been outdone in 3-5 days.
- How much should I make the SB and AB?
SB should be 80 for a simple lion with no/simple accessories and 90-100 ( i like to start semi-low to gain some interest! ). AB perhaps 200? ( again you can go higher if the lion has a complex pattern, mane, decors, etc. )
- What should the min/max Increasement of each bid be? 5-10 is the standard
- Should I allow Items to be included/split in bids?
Its all up to you and what your needs are. I would recommend items that are easy to sell i.e buffies, yoh. barks, S.O.D, etc. I personally would avoid accepting lions, applicators, and decor.
- Any other advice you can offer?
I adore your art, and if I still got Lioden King art you can bet I would be first in line for this piece! I adore this pond setting you've done, you just keep getting better every time I see your art!

Auctions are kind of a pain to set up and moderate, however, I've found I make more GB from them. Recolors/YCH are much easier of course, ( but potentially more work if enough people comment ) so its more up to how much effort you wanna put in. If you're willing to do lion work changes I do think many people will be interested ( though it is a pain so all up to you! )

Best of luck, hope this helped!

Thank you for taking the time to answer! This is a lot of helpful information. Now I just have to absorb it, hahah. I'll reread over these a bit and weigh my options. It's all rather intimidating; I hate being so indecisive. Thank you again for your time! I really appreciate it!

In regards to Jellyfish decor: I have never done LD style or CD before; that is another intimidating thing to think about! I'm not entirely sure I could mimic the style well enough? It's certainly an idea, maybe something to practice in future, but it seems rather intricate and certainly far-off from now. Thank you for the suggestion though!

- How long exactly should I hold an auction?
A week tends to be average, but that depends on how much you're around to advertise and such :)
- How much should I make the SB and AB?
For SB, make it something worth all your work and effort, so that, even if you don't get your AB, you get fairly compensated. Personally, I wouldn't start lower than 100GB for this as a unique piece.
- What should the min/max Increasement of each bid be?
I'd say 10 GB, personally. No need for a max increase, imo.
- Should I allow Items to be included/split in bids?
That's up to you, and whether you want specific items. You could also accept high value items for lower than branch price so you can make a profit if you spend the time to resell them.
- Any other advice you can offer?
Personally, I'd suggest offering this as a one-time YLH if you think that doing multiple recolours is likely to make you anxious. The extra profit isn't worth your mental health :) Plus, ime, recolouring and redrawing bits on the same base gets old, but ymmv!
I'd love to know if you plan to offer commissions for on-site currency/lions/items, by the way! <3 Would love to commission you for a non-lion character sometime :))
