edit: Yes I know this isn't a natural mutation for lions- but neither is melanism, that's never been seen in lions either :) if you want to be realistic, think of it as a hormonal imbalance. It's just a game, folks!

"Bilateral gynandromorphs - animals that are quite literally, half male and half female."

Hi guys ^_^ I'm not sure if this will have support but ,
a thing I think would be cool is bilateral gynandromorphism, or rather , when an animal is half male, half female. Almost like intersex, but a bit different and more visible.
I've never seen it in lions before but I've seen it in Birds, insects, and even crabs-

I'm not sure how it would manifest itself in lions, maybe a lion with a mane on one side- since that's the only defining difference between them.

I'm pretty sure that those affected aren't able to find a mate/breed though, so it'd be pretty rare and you would be unable to breed them- only getting it rarely through genetic mutations.

bilateral gynandromorphism doesn't always show up half and half like those pictures showed, sometimes it's patchy-

i just thought it'd be a neat idea to throw out there :D <3

thoughts?

this one would be an even split down the middle, not like that :)
but that's pretty fascinating :O

No support, as far as I know this genetic anomaly only happens in birds, crustaceans, insects and arachnids, and not mammals. Besides this kind of mutation would be really hard to see, considering the default lion pose. I'd be more interested on a chimeric mutation, it would allow lions to have patches of a different coat on their body like what you're suggesting, while gynandromorphism would pretty much only affect the mane.

i think the admins try to keep the mutations and stuff as realistic as possiblie

not really. melanism has never appeared in lions, but we have that mutation (pictures of black lions cover the web but they're photoshopped images). lions with two tails don't exist either, but hey. :p i don't think the realism argument is very strong.

back on subject, this is really interesting, and i definitely support this! plus it would be nice to have a mutation that, while its aesthetically pleasing, has some drawbacks as well. ovo

:) I know yea, I asked admins if that disqualified it, they told me to suggest it lol
since this website isn't fully realistic, i decided to give it a go :D
chimerism is a great idea! i think i saw it in the forums, i'd search around or make a new topic if i were you O:

Yeah I saw chimerism being suggested too, that's why I mentioned it ^^.

*shrugs* Overall, I just don't really find this an interesting idea for a mutation. From what I know, mammals really can't suffer this genetic anomaly due to the way their hormones difuse throgout their body, so while I know Lioden isn't a super realistic game,I think this mutation would really push the bondaries of what a lion can be like. Melanism and policaudal lions haven't been seen in the wild, sure, but those are just a matter of skin pigmentation anomaly and malformation during the fetus development. These aren't cases that change the lion's biology... gynandromorphism, on the other hand, is.

Either way, that's just my opinion. Good luck with your suggestion nonetheless ^^.

I like it, but the second link doesn't exactly show this mutation. Female cardinals are in fact, brown/russet with tinges of red, that in fact is most likely a leucistic cardinal.
Either that or my computer pixel coloration thingies are being beeshes
