The Design Handbook is a crucial guide for anyone looking to design their own, or someone else's, Draconis. It contains the marking guides, base coats, and genetic information.

Base Coats

The available base coat colors are: red, blue, yellow, green, purple, orange, red-violet, blue-violet, yellow-green, blue-green, red-orange, yellow-orange, white, black, and brown.

Red (RR or Rr or rr)

Base Coat Modifiers

There are three main base coat modifiers: greying, cream and lilac. Greying (GG/Gg) desaturates the base coat, making it appear different shades of grey. Cream (CC/Cc) changes the base coat into a creamy color. Lilac (LL/Ll) adds a blue tint to the base coat. A homozygous recessive allele means that the Draconis carries that modifier, but does not show it. Swatches for the base coats with the modifiers are in progress.

Markings

There are many different markings your Draconis can have that affect its appearance. Markings are added to the genotype after the base coat and modifiers.

Common

Tabby (TbTb/Tbtb) - causes a striped pattern on the coat
Speckle (SpSp/Spsp) - causes small spots on the coat
Unders (UU/Uu) - causes the underside of the Draconis to become lighter or darker than the base coat
Merle (MeMe/Meme) - causes the coat to become merled like a dog
Siamese (SiSi/Sisi) - causes darker-colored points on the legs, face, and tail of the Draconis
Points (PP/Pp) - gives liver, red, black, blue, cream, or tan points on the Draconis (you choose the color)
Booted (BB/Bb) - causes the feet and tip of tail to become black
Winged (WiWi/Wiwi) - causes the wings to become a shade darker or lighter than the coat; affects the back of an Oriael

Uncommon

Patches (PaPa/Papa) - causes patches of lighter or darker fur on the Draconis
Diamondback (DiDi/Didi) - gives a diamondback pattern to a Draconis
Brindle (BrBr/Brbr) - gives a paler colored stripe pattern on the coat similar to a dog's brindle
Piebald (PbPb/Pbpb) - causes patches of white of various sizes on the Draconis's coat
Roan (RR/Rr) - gives a roaned appearance to the coat, similar to that of a horse
Rosettes (RoRo/Roro) - gives rosettes to the coat

Rare

Extreme Piebald (PbPb + E) - an extreme form of piebald that leaves color only on the head and tail
Vitiligo (VV) - causes small spots of white to appear on the coat
Sable (SS) - a dark marking stretching from the forehead to the tail that blends in with the base coat
Dapple (DD) - causes saturated spots to appear on the back and hindquarters
Badger (BaBa) - causes a pale-colored stripe to appear on the forehead, back, and down to the tail

Genetics

Genetics get a bit tricky, so here is how they work.

Primary Base Coats

There are three primary alleles that exist in Felis Draconis: Red (RR/Rr/rr), Blue (BB/Bb/bb), and Yellow (YY/Yy/yy).

Homozygous dominant alleles mean that the Draconis is either solid-coated or, if another homozygous dominant allele is present, it is co-dominant and results in a secondary base coat.

Heterozygous alleles are expressed differently depending on whether they are alone or accompanied by another allele. If there are two or more alleles and one of them is dominant (ex. Rr/BB) you would get blue-violet as your secondary base coat, because the blue is more powerful than the red but the red is still visible, resulting in a secondary base coat.

Homozygous recessive alleles mean that the Draconis carries that base coat but does not show it (ex. RR/yy results in a solid red base coat). If all alleles are homozygous recessive, it acts the same way as a homozygous dominant allele.

Secondary Base Coats

There are three main secondary base coats that exist in Felis Draconis: Purple (RR/BB), Green (BB/YY), and Orange (RR/YY).

Shades

When all three base coats combine, they create shades. The two shades are black (RR/BB/YY) and brown (rr/bb/yy).

White

White is present as a modifier on all Draconis, and determined whether or not the coat appears to be solid white. WW marks a solid white coat, Ww means it is carried, and ww means it is carried and not shown. An example of a Draconis with a solid white coat might be RR/bb/yy + WW.

These are the basic activities your Draconis can complete. They have no hierarchy requirement, any Draconis can complete them. They are hunting, fishing, and scouting.

Rules

  • If drawing an activity, your Draconis must be at least 75% visible. If you want the rider bonus, your rider must be at least 50% visible. If hunting/fishing, the prey must be at least 25% visible. If fighting, the opponent Draconis must be at least 50% visible. You must have a decent background (that means no single-color backgrounds).
  • If writing, the activity must be at least 1,000 words long. The Draconis must play a large part of the story, not just casually mentioned. If you want the rider bonus, the rider must also play a large part of the story, not just casually mentioned.
  • You may include up to six Draconis in one image or story that will be rolled for the activity. You can add as many cameos as you want, but only six Draconis can be rolled for items.
  • Draconis must be uploaded to be rolled for an activity.
  • You must have an activity journal to be rolled for an activity. Check here (link pending) for how to set up an activity journal.
  • You may not re-submit an activity to be rolled again after it has been rolled once. You must create a new activity.
  • You do not have to depict your Draconis killing prey for an activity to count! You may depict them stalking, chasing, or catching the prey if you would like. If you do choose to depict your Draconis killing prey, you must put the appropriate filter on your work.
  • All activities are rolled randomly, unless you include items to enhance or change your odds.
  • You must list all bonuses, items, and companions your Draconis has in the artist's comments or else they will not be rolled for.
  • If writing, each story must have a clear beginning and end.
  • If you have collaborated in a literature entry, both parties must be clearly labeled.
  • Copy-pasting or re-using poses and backgrounds is not allowed.
  • Tracing is not allowed at all.
  • Photographs are allowed for backgrounds, but you must have permission to use the photograph or have taken it yourself.

Hunting

Hunting can be done year-round, but the type of prey available depends on what continent your Draconis is hunting on and the time of year. A full list of prey, their locations, and when they are available can be found here.

Fishing

Fishing can be done year-round and the fish are available regardless of what time of year it is, however the type of fish available depends on what continent your Draconis is fishing on. A full list of available fish can be found here.

Scouting

Scouting can be done year-round, and involves your Draconis searching for, or scouting, a specific area. Some items can be found on any continent, others can only be found on specific continents. A full list of items can be found here.

These advanced activities are activities your Draconis can only complete if it is ranked Beta or higher, due to the complex and often dangerous nature of the activities. However, the rules are the same as the basic activities. Currently, there are three advanced activities: pillaging, fighting, and tunneling.

Pillaging

Pillaging can be done year-round, and is only suggested if you'd like to get a bad reputation with the surrounding villagers. Pillaging has the chance to bring you back expensive and rare items at a higher rate than scouting, but your Draconis has a higher chance of getting injured or killed. Pillaging has the chance to bring back the same items as scouting, but also has other items which can be found here.

Fighting

Fighting can be done year-round, and involves your Draconis fighting one-on-one with another member's Draconis or randomly rolled foe. Unlike other activities, this activity can be only be done with a maximum of two Draconis at a time. This has a chance of getting you expensive and rare items, but your Draconis has a higher chance of getting injured or killed. To fight, you must first write a 1,000 word story about your Draconis meeting their foe, or draw that meeting, following the same rules as a normal activity. Then, post your work in the journal here. After that, a mod will roll your fight with a few randomly generated starters and options. You will use your Draconis's moveset, which is decided by their dominant magic type and their highest stat, to fight the enemy. You and your enemy will have an HP counter. If that HP counter reaches zero, your Draconis will faint and you will lose, and your Draconis will acquire an injury. If your enemy's HP reaches zero, your Draconis wins and you will win loot from the battle. For a list of loot you can win, see here.

Tunneling

Tunneling can be done year-round, and involves your Draconis digging or traversing tunnels for a multitude of reasons (escape routes, living quarters, etc.). Tunneling has a high chance of finding expensive and rare items, and you can only find gems while tunneling. However, you have a higher chance of getting injured or killed while tunneling. Tunneling brings back its own unique set of items, which you can see here.

The Passage of Courtship is the set of three trials your Draconis must complete in order to become ready to breed. These are mandatory if you wish to breed your Draconis. These follow slightly different rules from activities, but aside from these changes, all of the rules are the same:
  • If writing, PoCs must be at least 1,500 words.
  • Drawings must be fullbody and have full background.
  • A rider must be present for the tame options. For the feral options, a rider does not have to be present.
  • Only three Draconis can do one rite at the same time, in the same image/story.
Passage of Courtship entries are judged randomly and according to effort taken. The scoring system, and what you must get to pass, is here.

Prompts

Passage of Fertility

The first passage highlights the Draconis's fertility and readiness to care for cubs.

Tame Prompt

Your Draconis must show that it is fertile and ready to care for cubs. Depict it showing interest in or taking care of a cub or cubs.

Feral Prompt

Your Draconis must show that it is fertile and ready to care for cubs. Depict it caring for the leader of its' Clan's cub or cubs.

Passage of Strength

The second passage highlights the Draconis's strength and ability to care for a mate.

Tame Prompt

Your Draconis must show that it is strong and able to care for a mate. Depict it either pulling or carrying a large amount of weight in front of a potential mate.

Feral Prompt

Your Draconis must show that it is strong and able to care for a mate. Depict it stalking, fighting, attacking, or taking down large and dangerous prey in front of a potential mate.

Passage of Intelligence

The third passage highlights the Draconis's intelligence and ability to reason and think through difficult problems.

Tame Prompt

Your Draconis must show that it is intelligent and able to make difficult decisions. Depict it navigating a maze to find its rider.

Feral Prompt

Your Draconis must show that it is intelligent and able to make difficult decisions. Depict it creating or executing a plan to find a missing Clanmate who went missing in a thick, dangerous forest.

Submit all three prompts to the "Passage of Courtship" folder in the group, and fill out this form and put it in this thread:

The Rites of the Kingdom are the rites your Draconis must complete before they become a beta. These rites follow the same rules as activities, with a few exceptions listed below. These rites are meant to test your Draconis's abilities and make sure they are fit to become a beta.
  • Stories must be at least 2,000 words long.
  • Art must be fullbody with a full background.
  • A rider must be present. If your Draconis is feral, then a starter must be present in lieu of a rider.

Rite of Citizenship

This rite is about proving that the Draconis is ready to be a full citizen of the continent it was born on. Depict your Draconis on its home continent, meeting with a high elder of a Clan and completing a task set forth by that elder.

Rite of the Rider

This rite is about proving that the rider of the Draconis is fit to care for such a high-ranking creature. Depict your Draconis and its rider, or a starter, bonding in any way you see fit.

When you have completed both rites, fill out the form below and post them on this thread. You will either pass or fail, and whether you pass or fail is based on the amount of effort put into your entry.
