THE RISE OF MUDCLAN
A Warriors Roleplay
Mods: InserCleverNameHere and Potato Lord

For centuries, three clans of big cats have dominated these lands: Solclan, full of powerful and highly dominant lions; Shadeclan, the secretive clan of tigers; Roseclan, a collection of leopards, jaguars, and cats of similar stature. Without human influence, the three clans have grown to large sizes and thrived, learning to coexist within their own borders and, by extension, becoming more social than their non-clan cousins. But they are not alone. For nearly as long as the cats have survived here, they have shared the island with a group of canines¹. Having been proven the weakest and by far the least dominant, the canines were driven into "The Mud," a small swamp on the far-east coast.

A close-knit group of tigers led by [NAME], [DESC]. Their territory consists of dense jungle, several small islands, and a maze of rivers. Although tigers are usually solitary cats, the stealthy Shadeclan cats are much more social, though sometimes need their own space. Deer, monkeys, apes, hogs, and boar are often found in the trees and on the islands, but some large fish in the ocean and rivers.

Winterflame| 24 Moons| Female Siberian Tiger| Warrior| Mentions: Flarepaw (Directly) Redtooth, Birdpaw (Indirectly)

A large skull brushed against the smaller she-cat's pelt as the youngster brushed up against her. Winterflame could tell that Flarepaw was extremely excited, and gently chuckled at her comment. The apprentice had a lot to learn, and while she could most definitely say that the canines weren't the best creatures, there were dangers far more prominent and well... obvious. Rogues for example, could be just as large as the warriors in Shadeclan, and had no respect for borders or rules. If they happened to come upon one that day, it would be up to Winterflame and Redtooth to protect their apprentices.
"Now Flarepaw, you'll have to pay attention to what I'm going to teach you today. It is very important." Her voice was stern, but there was a kind glint in her eyes that betrayed her fondness for the cub. She was lucky Redtooth would be joining them. He was a seasoned and skilled warrior, and they got along quite well, which meant less bickering and more fun. Flicking rounded ears, Winterflame looked up at Patchheart, waiting for the deputy to accept their patrol.

| Scorchstar |
Male • 96 Moons • Amur x Bengal Tiger (Golden Tabby) | Leader
Location: River - Camp • Mentions: Patcheart, Roseclan Patrol

Scorchstar watched the tigers below through half-closed lids, senses alert despite his relaxed posture. As his deputy finished scolding her son and approached the patrol he slowly slid from his branch, winding around the trunk like a snake before massive paws hit the ground. He ambled toward the group without haste, catching the planned patrol routes and determining which one he’d prefer to tail. Despite the danger the dogs from the Mud posed Scorchstar had little worry about both leader and deputy being outside camp at the same time. They were safely nestled in the deepest parts of the jungle, and plenty of strong warriors had remained behind to guard the vulnerable. “I’ll be joining the Roseclan-Solclan patrol,” he commented, curious to whether they would bump into anyone from either Clan. The Roaring Call was not far now, but he was eager for news from another Clan. "I'll only be tagging along as an observer, by all means still choose a patrol captain."

| Firestorm |
Female • 72 Moons • Indochinese Tiger • Warrior
Location: Camp • Mentions: {Directly} Patcheart, Ocean Patrol

Firestorm waited silently as the other tigers around her spoke their desired patrol routes. The Roseclan-Solclan border was apparently a popular choice, as every mentor and apprentice appeared keen to be sent that way. When even Scorchstar padded forward with an announcement he would be joining them she saw fit to offer her attendance to one of the less crowded group. “I’ll join Otterleap on the ocean patrol,” she responded simply.

((My apologies for the shortness. I don’t have much writing muse tonight. I couldn't quite think of anything to write for Thornbite, so feel free to assign him to whichever patrol needs more cats.))

Sunstep

Female | 182 Moons | Bengal | Warrior
Location: Camp Grounds | Mentions: Swanstar - Scorchstar - MudClan - SolClan - RoseClan {Indirectly}

The glow of light bathed her orange coat in a soft warmth as she lay panting atop a flat rock, gazing out over the camps imprinted grounds. Her mind distracted by things far from now, claws slowly unsheathing from her paws and again, The Roaring Call clouded her vision as she lazily allowed her foggy eyes to follow whatever movement was in camp. The death of that lion worrying her greatly, especially with how close the body had been to RoseClan territory. The canines of the mud where starting to prove to the cats they could possibly be a real threat, and her claws now tore against the rock the more she thought about the meeting between clans, desperate to discuss what they'd do about it.

One feline in particular wouldn't leave her mind, and she's glad the leader of RoseClan was quick to prove their innocence, trying her best to push from her already crowded mind what could have happened between RoseClan and SolClan had she not been swift enough in her reaction. Her eyes then shifted in the direction of Scorchstar as he descended from his high perch amongst the trees. What would be his thoughts on how to deal with the canines? She knew his mates life had been taken by those creatures, and could sometimes feel the want for revenge seeping from his pelt. She herself wanted them gone and dealt with, her claws now hooking into the edge of the rock, she turned her face down to glare at the dirt below.

"It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men."

Beetlecub • Female • 3 moons • Cub • Nursery • Mentions: Spiderfang; Feathercloud

"Really,"Beetlecub chirped, staring up at her father with wonder. Her little mind was filled with the thoughts of herself as a tall, elegant tigress, hunting and fighting with the warriors. She grinned, standing up taller. Suddenly, the breeze that blew in her direction grew sweet with familiarity, coaxing a happy, juvenile chuff from the young cub. Her suspicions were confirmed with Spiderfang's glad announcement. She grinned and mewed happily, trotting in her mother's direction before lurching forward and bolting towards her mother's legs. The cub erupted in chirps and light, jubilant noises, the common, childish pangs of hunger beginning to bloom.

Moonpaw | Male | 22 moons | White Tiger | Apprentice | Location: Camp | Mentions: [Directly] Echosky

Moonpaw listened to every word Echosky said. He was very intrigued by catching one. He did realize that snakes could kill but his energy got the better of him. He ran off out of the camp and looked around. Leaves....leaves...leaves..." Moonpaw muttered to himself as he pawed at leaves, trying to look for a snake. He tried to smell but all he caught was the scent of bird. Birds he can catch any day but snakes are once in a lifetime. Well, to Moonpaw anyways

A gray cloud hovers over the island, crying rain down on every territory, every cat, and every dog. Luckily, the tigers of Shadeclan don't seem to mind. Like young cats do, cubs and apprentices frolic in the cool rain, covered in mud and water. Several adults and mature apprentices convene around the Sunning-Rock, their pelts darker than normal, and await Scorchstar and Patchheart.

SnowPaw ~ Female ~ 1 year, 4 months ~ White siberian tiger ~ Apprentice ~ Location: Camp
Mentions: N/A

SnowPaw was frolicking in the rain, pawing at the raindrops a they fell.
How SnowPaw loves the rain! When she was a cub she actually used to sit outisde and... well, be sad because she thought the earth was crying when it rained. She danced around in the drizzling rain, her fur soaked.

| Raventail |
Malayan Tigress • Birthmother • 73 Moons (~6 yrs.)
Location: Camp • Mentions: Snowpaw, OPEN

At the mouth of the ShadeClan nursery lay the ember colored tigress. She had splayed her body out just at the edge of the entrance, close enough to the camp's clearing that a pleasant misting of water droplets began clinging to her dense fur in a refreshing fashion. Yet, she managed to also keep dry enough that the moister would not become overwhelming and thus reawaken the bone deep ache in her hips from her days as an overzealous young warrior. Still, the birthmother lay contently in a semi-alert state. There were apprentices and cubs that needed looking after. Raventail's thoughts were justified further by the bundle of white fur that shot across the clearing, elation clear in the little female's dance underneath the leaking sky. The birthmother allowed a deep purr to escape her throat at the display of feline innocence. With a pang, she remembered her own carefree days as a 'paw. It felt so unreal to Raventail. Here she was, a supposedly mature Malayan Tiger who would gladly jump into the puddles alongside any cub, if only her arthritic bones could handle it. She'd have to settle for observing the fun from a distance. Her black furred ears flicked back and forth in anticipation as she looked after Snowpaw's activities. Vauguely she wondered if the apprentice would attend the Roaring Call. For herself, Raventail knew it wouldn't be possible. The journey was too strenuous and she's much prefer keeping her clanmates company in the safety of their home.

| Scorchstar |
Male • 96 Moons • Amur x Bengal Tiger (Golden Tabby) | Leader
Location: Camp • Mentions: {Directly} Roaring Call Participants

Scorchstar relished the feeling of cold droplets soaking into his thick pelt, offering some relief from the jungle's usual heat. His pale ginger and white coat had turned a shade darker under the torrential rain, but his vibrant golden eyes appeared to shine brighter than ever. He sat at the base of the tree in which he usually perched, awaiting the arrival of those who would attend the roaring call. His gaze followed Snowpaw splashing through the puddles scattered across camp before catching a glimpse of Raventail settled at the entrance to the nursery. Firestorm was bundling her own troublesome cubs into the apprentices den while Spiderfang had just returning to camp with a large fish clutched between his jaws, his orange fur splattered with mud all the way up to his chest. Thornbite's white pelt seemed to glow in the darkness shrouding camp from where he laid beneath a frond of ferns, watching his daughter frolick.

((Just something quick to get things started.))

Redtooth | Male | Camp | Warrior | 88 Moons | Mentions: Birdpaw, Snowpaw, Scorchstar [Minor]

Rain trickled down from the darkened sky like fat tear-drops, cool against his striped pelage. The droplets hydrated the land after a period of heat which left the soil dry and the vegetation thirsty. Around him, many members of ShadeClan stood out in the refreshing rain; there weren't many of their kind who disliked such weather. Even young Snowpaw gamboled around camp, her fur clinging heavily soaked from the moisture. Redtooth was settled once more on his lonesome close to the tree in which Scorchstar settled, his own coat becoming heavy and dark with the addition of rainfall. Aureate irises scanned the clearing, looking for no one in particular. His own apprentice, Birdpaw, was not in sight, whether it was because the novice disliked the precipitation or because he simply did not want to join them to the journey to The Roaring Call, Redtooth had no clue, but he was unconcerned.
He turned his golden yellow gaze upwards, where thick, angry clouds rolled past at a slow pace, he could see it through the thick upgrowth of foliage. His nose twitched as a particularly cold drop of rain dripped onto his velvet black nose, then he flicked his flexible tongue out to quickly warm the chilled spot before turning his attention back to his clan-mates.

Sunstep
Female | 182 Moons | Bengal | Warrior
Location: Camp Grounds | Mentions: Scorchstar {Indirectly}

Her darkened form was hidden beneath the rock of the warriors den, shielding her already sopping pelt from the rain. Liquid golden gaze intensified by the stormy skies above, she looked clearly displeased with the state of the clan, sticky mud stuck to her thick flank, and her ears flat and heavy against her skull. She wished for the day of the Roaring Call with a quick approach, but now was regretting it as the ceremony brought along with it dark clouds and raindrops that smacked down on her with a wet splash.

She just wished to go to the Roaring Call as soon as possible, as despite being a tigress despised the rain. Her eyes were trained carefully on Scorchstar, doing her best to get past her disgust and pushing her ears forward, trying desperately to hear everything he'd say when announcing the attendants. She just prayed to StarClan she'd go. She needed to see him.

Moonpaw | Male | 23 moons | White Tiger | Location: Camp | Apprentice | Mentions: [Directly] N/A [Indirectly] Snowpaw, Scorchstar

Moonpaw ran out of the Apprentices's den to meet the cool rain. His jumped around and into mud puddles. His fur was a dark grey, soaked with water while mud is splashed over his paws and spots on his chest. He noticed his sister Snowpaw running around as well and he joined her. Moonpaw saw that Scorchstar was getting ready to call the attendees for the Roaring Call. Secretly, Moonpaw is wishing all he can that he is going. To help his chance, he sat in front of the rock, tail curled around his paws. His blue eyes shone with excitement as he waited. Moonpaw knew it was a long journey but he really wanted to see all the other species of cats. He heard that Roseclan had so many diverse species. From what he heard, Solclan didn't have diverse animals. Most were tan colored but yet again, so was Shadeclan. Maybe he could meet new friends.

| Scorchstar |
Male • 97 Moons • Amur x Bengal Tiger (Golden Tabby) • Leader
Location: Camp • Mentions: Roaring Call Participants

As the Clan began to gather around him Scorchstar heaved himself onto his paws, his gaze passing over each tiger as he contemplated who he would bring with him. Young Moonpaw had made a point of seating himself patiently within perfect view of the pondering leader and Scorchstar’s whiskers twitched with amusement. “Shadeclan!” He called, voice raised to insure he was heard over the relentless pouring of rain. “It is time we left for the Roaring Call.”

The journey ahead might be tricky. Despite the approaching dawn the sky was still dark, the sun hidden from view by thick gray cloud. Younger apprentices would need help from the adults making the trek through the mud and across rivers. “Patcheart, Otterleap, Redtooth, Junglescar, Winterflame, Dawnwhisper, Sunstep, Echosky and Moonpaw will be attending.” He padded toward the entrance, beckoning his summoned warriors with a flick of his tail.

“Spiderfang is in charge until I return. Go to him should you have any questions,” Scorchstar addressed the rest of the Clan, nodding to the warrior he’d left in charge before turning once more to those he was bringing to the Roaring Call. “Remember, fighting is forbidden once we set paw on the meeting grounds. The other cats are not our enemies today, but remember they are not our friends either. Treat them with respect, converse with and engage them should you wish, but never reveal our secrets or tell them anything that could be used against us.”

((If I forgot anyone or got the wrong character PM me and I’ll edit this.))

| Firestorm |
Female • 73 Moons • Indochinese Tiger • Warrior
Location: Camp • Mentions: {Directly} NPC Cubs, Open / {Indirectly} Moonpaw

Firestorm watched the chosen tigers file out of camp, silently wishing them a safe journey as they disappeared from view. “Why was Moonpaw chosen and not us?” Her son asked ruefully, her daughter appearing far more outraged compared to her sorrowful brother. Firestorm leaned forward to swipe her tongue across her disappointed cub’s forehead comfortingly. “You’ll have a turn someday,” she assured. “Besides, you more or less assured you weren’t going this time when you decided to hide burs in Scorchstar’s nest last night. Did you think he would reward your little prank?"

Both apprentices hunched their shoulders, expressions souring, but offered no response. Firestorm shook her head fondly. “Stay in here where it's dry. You’re too young to be wandering about the territory in this mess,” she ordered. “Once the rain stops I’ll take you out hunting if you like.” Backing out of the apprentice's den, she glanced around the camp at the tigers who had been left behind. Spiderfang would probably send a few warriors out in search of prey soon, or perhaps a border patrol to make certain none of the mongrels from the Mud were taking advantage of the cats being away from their camps.

line2.png

| Spiderfang |
Male • 61 Moons • Sumatran Tiger • Warrior
Location: Camp • Mentions: {Directly} None - Open / {Indirectly} Beetlecub, Feathercloud, Patcheart, Raventail

Spiderfang’s gaze practically glowed when he was left in charge of the camp. It was a huge responsibility, but it was an honor to be trusted with watching over his Clanmates while both leader and deputy were away. “I won’t let you down,” he promised Patcheart and Scorchstar as they headed out. Once those attending the Roaring Call had left, the camp seemed almost empty with so few tigers left behind.

His stomach turned with anxiety as he realized how vulnerable they were and cast his worried gaze toward the dark trees surrounding the clearing. Could Mudclan warriors be lurking just beyond view, their scents obscured by the weather and bodies enveloped in shadow? His eyes landed on the nursery next, where he could see Raventail resting near the entrance. Feathercloud and Beetlecub should be curled safely inside, away from the cold touch of rain. ’Starclan, please watch over us all…

line2.png

| Thornbite |
Male • 49 Moons • Bengal Tiger (Leucistic) • Warrior
Location: Camp • Mentions: {Directly} Moonpaw / {Indirectly} Snowpaw

As his son’s name was called Thornbite left the shelter of the ferns, his formerly untouched pelt now speckled with mud and turned a light grayish hue. “Travel safely,” he commented, noting for perhaps the first time how much Moonpaw had grown since they arrived. He would be a warrior himself in another moon or so. Conflicting emotions washed over him; love for his young kin, pride for his accomplishments and yet the same familiar shame he always felt when looking upon Moonpaw and his sister.

“Remember to behave yourself, do as your mentor asks and heed Scorchstar’s advice,” were his parting words before Moonpaw left with the others. His icy blue gaze followed the group as they vanished beyond the camp walls before turning to head back to his previous resting place, content to shelter beneath the ferns until called upon. His coat was thinner than the other tigers in the Clan and the rain sent a chill through his skin.

|| Patcheart ||
| Female | 6Yrs 1M(73Mns) | Siberian Tiger | Deputy |
| Location: Camp | MD: N/A |
| MI: Tigers In Camp,Roaring Call Participants, Scorchstar|

As morning broke and the tigers of the clan eagerly gathered around the sunning-rock and as the thunder and rain rough-housed overhead, Patcheart would silently make her way to the bottom of the aged boulder where she would observe her clanmates with an even, but affectionate alabaster gaze as they played with the rain that fell softly to the ground.

The tigress wanted nothing more than to join the apprentices in their play, to cake her soaking, shaggy pelt in a thick layer of mud, and to perhaps fling the soaking soil at the silent leader of the clan in an effort to distract him, and others from a Roaring Call the would undoubtedly be more serious than the gatherings in the past.

But her duty today was to offer support to her leader, whatever he may say or do, and she would not be taken seriously if her pelt was unrecognizable to all who gazed upon her. So the tigress sat infuriatingly still and silent, a stripped statue to any who glanced her way as the group who would be making the journey to the Roaring Call were named. A slight nod of the female's ruffled head was the only noticeable communication as Spiderfang was named superior while deputy and leader were absent...he was a good warrior and she would rest easy knowing that he would be there in her and Scorchstar's stead.

With a flick of the tail her only fairwell, along with a batted chunk of mud sent towards a frolicking Snowpaw with a silent grin, the deputy was the last to leave the clearing, her watchful eyes bringing up the rear of the small group of tigers.
