WARNING: PICTURES OF CATS WITH MELANOSIS WILL BE SHOWN. LION DISCRETION IS ADVISED.

**Inspired By DressageQueen's Cat**

So I was lurking in the main chat this week and we were talking about cats. Well, the lovely moderator DressageQueen (DQ) showed a picture of her cat with Melanosis, which makes one of her cats eyes splotchy and, in this case, the whole thing black. I was very inspired by this and I thought it would be a cool mutation idea. Unlike the blind mutation, this mutation would only cause one eye to not be able to see. And, a benefit of this mutation is the lions can actually SEE something. Cats with Melanosis tend to live long lives just as a normal cat would. And since lions are apart of the big cat species, it kinda just connected the idea of the Melanosis mutation. Here's just some examples:

Soo as you can see Iris Melanosis occurs during age. Soo I thought there would be 3 stages (4 if you have the 2 extra cub stages) where during cub there's a lil bit of brown/black. During adol stage it's half/almost fully covered. And during adult stage it's fully black. And this would happen on the right eye. (Or if it would be like hetero where it could happen on either eye)
Or maybe it doesn't show during cub stage, Only during adol and adult stage so it would be easier on the artists. (Suggested by #90413)
Another thing would be a hunting disadvantage. When a cub is born with Iris Melanosis it has lower starting agility. (Suggested by #6036)

I've spent lots of time on this and I'd appreciate your support and any comments. ^^

UPDATE!

The mutation Iris Melanosis mutation has been picked to be in the next admin discussion meeting! Let's just hope they like the idea :)

ANOTHER UPDATE

Cin (#106573) has made a beautiful idea of what Iris Melanosis eyes would look like ^^

I totally support idea, although may I suggest a hunting disadvantage? Being half blind greatly reduces depth perception, which would be vital in hunting and fighting. So perhaps lions born with this mutation would have a lower starting agility.

I feel like this would be hard work for the artists, especially since in that last image the animal seems to just develop multichromatic eyes, which is already in play here. but the STAGES of this would seem to require constantly changing art.

@Leya

I see your point, but it doesn't have to be constantly changing. I have an idea--

Melanosis blinds them? How? I thought that if they have two diff colored eyes, the side with the blue eye is blind and deaf. Or at least deaf. Why would it cause the brown eye to go blind?

@Parker thanks! It means a lot considering this is my first time suggesting a new mutation. But I can't take all the credit, DressageQueen informed me about Iris Malenosis. And people have some pretty good suggestions :)

@Cherokee

Iris melanosis is a general term meaning โ€œdiscoloration of the iris.โ€ The pigmented area may be a small freckle (nevus), or the iris may have many diffusely discolored areas. Over time, the pigmented area often spreads to other parts of the iris. Iris melanosis may be a benign (harmless) condition, or it may cause secondary glaucoma if the pigmented area spreads and blocks intraocular fluid drainage. (Which in this case, it's harmless) Severe lesions can also prevent the iris muscles from functioning properly, thereby making it difficult for the cat to constrict the pupil in response to bright light.

Found this off an article, hope this betters your understanding! :)

@Xyalax the person who did that suggestion was the one who prabably hit the no-support. (Not pointing fingers) but I added that suggestion thinking that would hopefully change her mind. It didn't. But that's okay cause at least we have 100+ supports :)
