haha ik this is VERY far out there, but idk maybe it would be cool as a mutation? (could be a base also tbh) anyway, I was thinking it would be a very very rare mutation that would only show up on certain events ie: Celestial and Oct events. Also, it could give players who are not interested in hybrids/don't have one to try for something else that is equally as rare! Bioluminescence is some pretty cool stuff, it's apparently evolved over 40 different times throughout its history, which is neat. Essentially it allows marine life (jellyfish, bacteria, starfish, etc) and some terrestrial life (fireflies and some fungi) to actually light themselves up. The ability to do this all bioluminescent organisms use a reaction between an enzyme and a substrate to make light! So how would this work in Lioden? (First I know this is sooo unrealistic, but we've got blue lions friends the horse has left the barn years ago lol) I was thinking that your lioness (or lion) could accidentally eat some "pretty" fungi or fireflies and by some science magic, there's a chance for their offspring to somehow inherit the bioluminescent gene. The mutation itself would be subtle I'm thinking? I mean if someone would like to do a mock up that would be cool haha Celestial event: Your lioness/you happen to wander into a thick patch of fireflies. Your lioness/you can barely see past the swarm of shiny bugs and you happen to accidentally ingest a some, now your lioness/you feel tingly. Oct event: Your lioness/you suddenly find themselves very lost in a dark forest that is crawling with creatures of the night. The fur on your neck rises in fear when you feel a puff of breath on your nose. Suddenly a lion lights up in front of you, he tells you he knows the way out. --He leads you out of the forest and leaves or offers you a gift, some brightly colored mushroom that you can eat. *This is what I was thinking the mutation could look like on lions! Very subtle!* Pic of a bioluminescent jellyfish |

The ONLY reason I'm disagreeing is because we have a lot of decor - in those months specifically - that cause you to look like you are glowing. I just think a mutation can quickly be redundant! 0 players like this post! Like? |

I looked it up, and having animals that aren't normally luminescent would be deadly. It would scare away prey and attract enemies. All organisms with luminescent (except for bacteria) can control their ability as well. And for glowing to occur, two chemicals are required: Luciferin and Luciferase. I can't support this. There have been tests were mammals can glow, because they were injected with the genes to cause such a thing to happen. I can support for a decor, maybe for Halloween (as that's where most of the body-covering decors are). It would be cool to have green glowing lions, but just not as a mutation. 0 players like this post! Like? |

I think it'd be a fun gag idea (April Fools or Halloween heck yes), but I'm not sure about an actual mutation. Scientists have created bioluminescent mammals using the GFP protein found in jellyfish, but they only glow when directly exposed to a UV blacklight, other than that they look perfectly normal. And I don't think there are many UV blacklight sources in the African wilds unfortunately 0 players like this post! Like? |

@Reverie I was thinking April Fools as well, but it would be sad to only have them for one day ^^ (gimme more green lions) 0 players like this post! Like? |

Ohhh I'd love this! It'd only be visible at night time right? that could be so awesome :O And as for how it's unrealistic, I'm pretty sure neon purple and blue lions have crossed that line long ago XD 0 players like this post! Like? |

@Karmo - I was thinking maybe they could add it to the April Fool's mugshot decor in the Oasis! That way people could keep it. Or just be a separate decor on its own ¯_(ツ)_/¯ Also I couldn't help myself so I present: GFP Tigon Mockup Aka the glowing green lion of Xylax's nightmares 0 players like this post! Like? perhaps we can explore all these ideas lol ??? I just think a bioluminescence of some sort added to the game would be fun! Edit: if this did eventually get shot down for all mut/markings/bases it could always be an addition to the oct explore interactions! 0 players like this post! Like? I would love for decor, it's just too cool to pass down. And the mockup was exactly how I imagined ^^ 0 players like this post! Like? |

Found a little weird fact: Animals who are luminescence will lose their ability to glow if stressed or damaged. It's why these creatures are so hard to study since capturing causes stress. 0 players like this post! Like? |

huh that's interesting haha. In one of my bio labs we added the biolu gene to E.coli and the results were really cool! I personally think the whole thing is really neat haha @Liodude thanks for the support!! :)) 0 players like this post! Like? |

I think that’d be very nice! Especially if it only occurred during certain months- even if some factors may need to be changed due to it being a mild stretch :00 0 players like this post! Like? |

Just popping here because this suggestion made me remember some cool experiments done with actual kittens, to study how to introduce new genes into species, and what better way to test that than to make them glow? Setting the controversy this can cause aside, this is a possibility - by artificial means, but who's to say some experimental drug or something similar cannot make it into Lioden and cause these big cats to become bioluminiscent? 0 players like this post!
