[ Support My Other Suggestions? ]

Revisiting Grandpaws
Fixing 99999 SB Branch Listing Spam
Making Sub Males More Useful
-------

Summary:

This suggestion is intended to be implemented along side the suggestion to Re-Define & Enforce Display Name Conduct to disallow Stud Ads in player display names, and instead provide a more streamlined addition to search which will benefit all players equally.

What I Am Proposing

Keyword lookup in lion and stud profiles.

Given how difficult it can be to locate certain traits on lions, I think it would benefit all kinds of players to be able to include searchable keywords in Lion bios.

Example:

These keywords would be searchable in Trading Center and Search keyword fields and can be used along side other filters.

If you don't support, I'd like to know why. I appreciate constructive criticism over a simple "no".

This suggestion has 86 supports and 0 NO supports.

Oh my god, this would be such a lifesaver. It's so hard to search for studs of a popular base(think trying to breed with an Ice king for Elysian...) and going through each and every one. Even if players started misusing the terms I'd be so happy with this suggestion implemented just to narrow it down a little. Huge support.

I was considering the potential for misuse of keywords but I think that it'd be more of a benefit than a hinderance. If we keep the keywords publicly available, it'd be easier to spot false advertising - and false-advertising rules could even cover this.

That's true! I do worry about some terms that change in their definitions, though (like colorbomb, the definition I'm used to is 3+ unique colors visible, while I've seen some define it as 5+, and some consider lions with just Haliotis to be colorbombs...etc) I don't know if the staff can feasibly moderate those kinds of terms. That all being said though I feel like the benefits MAJORLY outweigh the negatives, though.

I think that it'd probably be an "as-needed" scenario. Have them reset upon kinging a new king to avoid accidental tags, similar to how stud fee resets.

If a player just doesn't understand a term, that's whatever. But if you see a basic rolled lion tagged with every popular tag, you can easily deduce the intent. Assuming it's even enforced - which would likely be via reporting only and low priority - I wouldn't personally want anything but the most egregious offenses cracked down on.

But evolving terminology is part of why I think it should be so open. It also allows players doing custom challenges to have a way to find each other much easier, also.

I feel like a lot of people would abuse this for more stud req. Other then that I love this. Maybe the abusers could get in trouble tho, bc of false advertising.

Half-support. These could be useful for some extent if added, but they will not replace info in usernames and cannot be used as a substitute to it. Ive explained in the other topic why;

Usernames are quick and easy way to see information. If you see a user with any of the following in their name: G1, 1st Gen, First Gen, Gen One, Generation One, Generation 1, Heritageless, No Heritage, Unknown Parents - 9 already, and that's not the limit.
You will immediately understand their kind is G1 if you read this info in their username.

But if keywords are added, each of these individual synonyms will be have to be looked up to even TRY finding what you need. And if users make an orphography error? Write 1t Gen? Gneration one? Hertageless? If you read it in a username, you will understand it, but you cannot possibly provide ALL variations of ALL keywords to conduct an actually productive search.

So, while this isnt a bad suggestion, its no panacea. It wont even remotely come close to how easy and convenient info in usernames is. It only has a place as a standalone addon, NOT as a replacement to username read info.

Rufus (#177615) :: Right. Customizable keywords. Keywords would permit users to define custom terms not only to encompass generations but also user-created breeding challenges, and keywords that users looking for or advertising particular things would be able to generate.

Keywords would also benefit clans built around certain aesthetics.

💚🤍💜Mycen⚦♠️ (#384731) :: False advertising has always been punished on LD far as I have seen.

Mad Hyena (#29080) :: As I stated in the other suggestion you wrote something similar on:
The keywords would perform the exact same function as the username tags, except now allow users to utilize more of them. :)

Synonyms is where flexible search results come in. Many modern search functions also include 'similar spellings' as part of modern day search engine code.

Via Algolia: "What is typo tolerance?
Typo tolerance allows users to make mistakes while typing and still find the records they're looking for. This is done by matching words that are close in spelling."

You'd get a few false positives, but it's very useful for dyslexic users, users who may not write or spell very well, users who have regional variations (see: color vs. colour) and so forth.

It is also possible to include 'similar results' and mention ``Number of Similar Results Included: X -- Show Results`` and a button that says ``Show only my search``.

Search algorithms are flexible and customizable.
Just because something has been in place for a very long time doesn't mean we can't improve upon it.

Personally, my user experience is impacted because of how cluttered main chat looks due to stud ads in names, and it impacts how well I can read. Others have expressed similar feelings. I'd like to think our opinion and experience matters also, which is why I am attempting to make this middle ground happen.

It should also be noted that 20 doesn't have to be the limit. It's a round number I frequently utilize.
