Buttercup, as one of the few cubs living in the pride, did not have many friends. Other than her, only her two older half-sisters, Marble and Briar, were in the nursery. All the other cubs came and went, abandoned far from the Lake Land. Buttercup was lucky that she avoided this kind of fate. But despite being one of the "chosen" cubs, Buttercup's life wasn't really that easy. She was great friends with Briar, but Marble, the third cub, was nothing but mean to them both. Buttercup didn't know how to defend herself, and even one insult said by Marble was enough to ruin her day. Luckily, Briar was always there to protect Briar from their snarky sister. Buttercup was really grateful for that, but she also felt like she abused Briar's kindness. She had nothing to give her in return... When she was old enough, Buttercup became an apprentice with Amber as her mentor. Around this time, she became friends with Speckle, who was always there to help her with her training.
