Wobbegong's Den

Welcome to the Sunspot Pride

The territory one would enter as they approach this pride is barren. Sometimes, in this desert basin, coated in volcanic black sand, there's signs that someone used to live here: poorly made mimicries of arrows, water skins, bones, claw marks where temporary dens were dug out, quickly fading to the effects of weathering. There's no pride here but the ghost town remnants of times long past, and the land is far from promising. Barely anything chooses to live here, and what does live here is cautious and more than capable of defending itself. Every lion who got even a glimpse at the sand within the sheer cliffs of the basin has turned back, for there's nothing worth seeing here.

The pride that lives here resides below. Contrary to their name, the Sunspot Pride didn't seen the sun for many generations. In fact, many of them haven't seen anything at all. This subterranean pride lives on fish in their underwater rivers and from a hidden ocean cove, sharing these fishes' pale complexion and blindness. They like their privacy, and it's incredibly rare for all but the primary leader of the pride to encounter a lion from the surface world. This pride is utterly isolationist, and prefers it that way. They're glad the desert above keeps others away.

About the Current Leader

Fisher Wobbegong is the leader of this small pride, and the first to see, truly see, the sun in generations upon generations. Her eyes are still weak, and bright lights are painful to her slit pupils, but to see at all is a gift in this pride. Under her rule, the pride began to spread out, into a pocket of air in an underwater cave. An ocean cave. One of few exits to the world outside their tunnels.

Wobbegong emerges regularly, diving out from the cove and surfacing on the sunny beaches. Under her leadership, her pridemates, most still blind, have been led out one at a time to experience the outside world for the first time in an eternity. Sands that do not burn, water in abundance, soft plants growing on the edges.

Wobbegong ushers in a new era for the Sunspot Pride, and takes on this responsibility wholeheartedly. She will be the seeing eye for her pridemates. Where they are timid, she will be bold. Where they are shy, she will talk. The Sunspot lions will see the sun again. She'll make sure of it.
