You are out searching for some new lionesses, hardly paying attention to your surrondings. You've caught a scent and care very little about where it is leading you, so long as there is a lady at the end of your trek. Sadly, you loose the scent on a strong breeze and find yourself in a silent woodland. The trees are lifeless- no moss entombs thier skeletons, no dead leaves litter the dry soil. There are many small piles and tracks of herb powders and tiny bones- the only sign anybody has been here in recent history. You slowly begin to tiptoe away, deciding any lionesses in this creepy place are best left be. "What do you require, dear?" a deep voice inquires. You turn and are dwarfed by a tall, stocky lioness. Her coat is almost completely pure white- no speck of dust dares intrude. However there are patches of sleepy brown hither and thiter, and her head is of the same dusky shade. "I am-"
"Hush, little one. I know who you are. I ask only what you are seeking" she purrs. A rag of brown and green cloth hangs over her withers and head, and it whispers as she shakes her head. "Ah, we were expecting you" a second voice adds from your left. Where in the hell did she come from?! A delicate brown lady, marked with a white mask and socks, is inspecting your tail in a distracted fashion. She sports a massive auburn mane that makes you shake your own out self-conciously. "I was... just.. it's actually nothing.." you stumble.
"My, my, no need to be shy. We know you well enough. Come, eat with us" the first says hopefully. "I'm Darling, and this is my mate Love. We would never do you no harm".
Seeing little choice, you agree. They spring to thier broad dinner-plate paws and run off with dazing speed, neatly jumping fallen trees, dodging those standing and dancing around the powders and bones expertly. You follow best you can in the dense forest, bumping your nose and head until you see stars and taking care not to disturb the.. leavings. You've seen enough horror movies left playing in rangers cars to not mess with that shit.
Suddenly they seem to leap into nothingness, dropping out of sight. You try to skid to a stop but end up rolling down a steep, rocky slope and falling right utop a giant kiwi bird.
Dinner is fear and elephant- "it's the only meat we eat. elephants are the wisest of prey, and so eating it is good for the soul"- when night falls you suddenly realise to return home you must face the creepy wood, alone, in the pitch.
"Come, sweetcheeks. We would never let a friend face such terrors" Love chuckles. She and Darling lay on either side of you, and purr hard. First slowly and then all at once you fall.. fall.. fall.. into your caves?!
*PRIDE LORE: HISTORY*
The Age Of Simplicity: Solis x Strawberry | Old Eyes
The woods once lay empty. The now-dead western forest was bursting with life and passion; the outcrop now housing the East Duo pride unaltered and covered with moss. Farway, a singular brown son is born to a wild lioness. She suckles him a little and then leaves him in a ditch- lionesses without prides often make poor mothers. She has forgotten about him within the hour. Within a wealthy pride of primals a gigantic pink cub is born; he is covered in thick fur before he is a few days old. His king is proud of him, his mother besotted. Finally, upon the same fateful day, an elderly lioness labours over her final litter. Two girls and a boy are bought forth and taken to the caves by the king. The lioness gasps her final breath and expires- her pride weeps. Her litter cries out for milk and are ignored.
The cubs that will be the start of Duo grow. The wild lioness’ abandoned son is found by a young king. He carries the creature home, thinking his girls will love to have a little one to fuss over. They are disgusted by the fairly ugly child, and though they tend to him to please their king, they nip his tail and box his ears when he is not looking. The child is named Solis, meaning ‘sun’, and he is soon a gangly, grumpy young adult. The ball of fluff has also grown; he fills out, growing tall and strong. Unlike his brothers and cousins, he is more pudgy then muscular; the womenfolk spoil him with the best meat and coddle him, keeping him away from the fighting and patrolling. Not having any daughters, they love the pink lad and by young adulthood he is fat, jolly and beautiful. The other males tease him, but playfully, and they love him just as much as their mothers. He is the baby of the pride; they name him Strawberry. The elderly lioness’ litter fared poorly- born too soon and not fed well, the two girls don’t make it. The son is not allowed to sleep in the caves and has to feed himself; he learns to be alone, to not need love or a full belly. The king dubs him ‘Old Eyes’, to suit his sunken, sad eyes.
One sunny morning Strawberry heads out into the world. His family mourn him, but know he must seek his own lands now. He bounces across the desert, a grin on his soft chin. Solis is laying outside the empty cave; the ladies have gone hunting, and his king is off flirting and fighting in the unclaimed lands. Bored and lonely he blows sand and pretends to sleep. Wait- who is that? The youngster lifts his head and standing over him is the most handsome, most gentle looking primal he has ever seen. “Come, dear” the fluff purrs. “Let us find land for ourselves. I find myself quite infatuated by you. I cannot continue without you by my side”.
“Nor I without you” Solis replies, and they go forth together. They will never be out of each other’s eyesight again.
They find the woods, carve caves out of the outcrop. They gather lionesses, who mate with other kings as they wish. Via surrogate they raise a singular child, whom fills their hearts and completes them. The boy is the tiniest, fluffiest brown-and-white cub; they name him Alan. Within the pride is the son of one of the lionesses and another king, and he is known as Rocket. A giant of a kid, he rules the other little ones. He peers into Alan’s nest one day and the two boys meet eyes. The next two kings fall instantly: the childhood sweethearts marry two years later.
A week or so after their wedding, Solis and Strawberry die in their sleep from old age, curled up together in the moonlight. Old Eyes finds the west half of the woods and rules in in solitude and mystery. He and Solis are good friends but little is known of him.
The Two-Faced Age: Alan x Rocket | Old Eyes, Greenie, Slumbers
Alan inherited the goodness of Solis and the fluffiness of Strawberry. Fair of heart and as innocent as a newborn, he was adored and treasured as a king. Rocket was a true protector, organizing and defending the pride loyally. But the violence that would seep the lands for generations was in seed. The mysterious Old Eyes found a skinny golden cub and raised him as his own, to become the king after his demise. The old man shielded his child from the world. They kept no lionesses. The child was named Greenie. Rocket was prone to outbursts of aggression, attacking random pride members, and he hated the old man and his heir with a passion. Alan ignored this, seeing him as perfect in every way. Greenie eventually fell in love with a massive, dusty yellow male from the desert regions known as Slumbers- then, only a year after they were wed, Slumbers was found murdered on the banks of the river. Everybody but Alan knew it was Rocket, but nobody dared to question him. Fear ruled. Alan and Rocket raise many children, but Rocket seems focused on their eldest son, Majesty. The pride sees the evil within Rocket growing within Majesty and see the worst is to come..
The Age Of Fear: Majesty | Sour
Alan is trampled to death in a freak accident. Suddenly the strong and emotionless Rocket crumbles; he falls dead of a broken heart at the news. The pride bury him with relife but the overwhelming feeling they have entered an even darker age. Majesty is kinged without question, and he suddenly announces his friend Sour, a beast of a lioness from a forgian pride, is going to advise him and move in. They cower at her gaze and grow thin under their brutal rations. They get on with it.. Until the bodies of Old Eyes and Greenie are found. They are not even buried; Sour has them put in the river and then takes over the West. A tone of misery and mourning is in the air. Neither Majesty nor Sour take mates, though Sour has a singular adoptive son and a biological daughter she produced with an ancient dark ritual on her own named Love. Julia is the only one who sees her kind side; he has speech difficulties meaning he is mostly nonsensical, though within he is actually awfully bright and soulful. The two rulers are despised. Fables of Strawberry, Alan and Solis are told nightly for comfort, weathered old lionesses tear as they share their tales. Julia is loved by the lionesses who ensure he never becomes as evil as his mother. He is blind to her wrongdoing.
The Age Of Wisdom: Do | Darling x Julia
The lionesses finally revolt. The loss of the elfin western heir and the sweet, if eccentric, western king sends them over the edge. After three days of revolution Sour suddenly dies of tetanus and Majesty drops from a stroke. Fate has freed the prides. The leader of the movement, Majesty’s youngest sister Darling, is queened. She rules both lands while an Eastern leader is found. A friend of the prides, a king named Jimmy, hears of the release of the lionesses. He congratulates them and presents them with the tiniest little bean of a new king- Love Me Do. The lionesses tenderly raise him and then crown him; he is short but pudgy, with the thickest of manes. The lionesses thrive under the freedom and democracy he plants. Darling rules with religion and faith, all her wives are deeply connected to the forces of the afterlife. The woods dry out and become haunted. The west is once more shrouded in mystery, but the lionesses there are content and passionate about their new cause. Julia, for so long misunderstood and without love, gains power over his words at the sight of Darling. All the words trapped within him flood out; the pride is delighted and they fall passionately in love. Not all is as peaceful as you may think. Though Majesty and Sour are dead and buried, civil war and scandal still lay bubbling beneth the surface of the pride. Darling may love her husband Julia dearly, but she is not made for monogamy. And she has inherited the same wild blood that drove Majesty to darkness.
At first, it was only Rita. The immortal and transfixing godess had slowly fallen for the spiritual Darling- lust took them both, and by some dark magic Rita was heavy with Darling's litter. Julia could never know. And his older sister Love, who was already madly jealous at Darling's power, would tear the pride apart if she found out her odious sister-in-law was exploiting her beloved little brother. Rita offered a deal. The litter had consisted of a singular boy, whom she named Sixty. If the throne was promised to him Darling's secrets would be safe- of course Darling agreed. Only a week later Rita was heavy from Darling once more; this time a singular daughter came forth. This one she kept hidden from the queen- she needs a favour to call later.. the girl, dubbed Birdie, learns much of witchcraft at her mother's heels.
Knowing she posessed the power to produce offspring with the lionesses of her pride, Darling should have been more careful. But she was wild and romantic, and loved them all. Many daughters followed the pure white scandal alongside a three furthur sons- Kid and Blues, identical twins, and Mr. They are all heartbreakingly gorgeous: thier mothers are kept quiet by Rita's threats. Thier weeping is heard from the backs of caves near nightly; whenever a cub turns five months they are hidden in an isolated cave deep in Do's territory. Dispite the pain of each litter being rushed away from them to an undisclosed fate they often fall under Darling's charm agian and agian..
The Age Of True Peace : Darling + Love
The drama was growing; when, out of the blue, Do dropped of a sudden brain issue. The entire kingdom rocked on it's foundations at the untimely passing.
Darling hastily took the reins of both the East and West, suddenly prononcing her many illegimate children and betrayals of Julia's love. The prides were stunned but accepting, knowing that she was the only chance of true safety and quiet the lands had.
Love was disarmed and had no lever to usurp the crowns anymore. She leaves her daughter in the care of one of Do's former caves and takes off with Every to live wild in the lands.
The prides live in depression, not knowing where the next king could come from. Sixty is too young and promised to the Western throne: his brothers and sisters are all too young, too submissive or too wild to be a reliable choice.
Some months later, by some blessing, a strange lioness enters the territory. She looks identical to Do, only.. well, she's a she, and she has strange white patterning.
However, as time passes, they all know in thier hearts she is exactly as she claims to be: Do reincarnated to retake his rightful throne.
She takes the Eastern crown with much celebration, and after a slow courtship is wed to Darling. They raise her many children in harmony and at last the prides are truely free of any hardship or uncertainity
Love was a gift from✨ Jimmy✨ ; I have no words. I'll let you know when I stop crying.
