"I don't know why I let you all drag me into these things."

The dramatically exasperated sigh came from one Lucius Malfoy as he walked through the streets of New York city, one arm around his wife while the other gripped the walking stick that was becoming less and less for show as years past.

"Because the Little Princess wanted to go to New York for holidays?"

Hydra suggested, glancing over her shoulder to smile at her father and her sister beside him.

"Then it was just a matter of mum coaxing you into thinking it wouldn't be that bad, and suddenly, we're in New York."

Leo added with a casual shrug. An amused smirk had stretched across his features, but he didn't dare to turn and face his parents so that they could see. He had learned early on not to clue his parent in on any visual smartass-ery, lest he find himself in the middle of a long rant.

Lucius rolled his eyes at his children and watched them as they walked ahead, Hydra with her boyfriend and Leo with his girlfriend.

Yeah, coaxing. That's what Hermione had been doing. And Merlin did she have a way of coaxing things from him. For a bookworm, she really was sexy when she wanted to be, especially when she wanted something. He never thought he'd say that of a muggle born, much less one twenty five years younger than himself.

Phoenix felt and looked like she'd been hit with the strongest stunning spell imaginable. Her father had never talked to her like that before and she was speechless. To her it felt like his words had smashed her outer shell, the Phoenix everyone knew, and left before them was who she was or what was left of her. It was a part of her, or whole of her, she'd never let herself get to know or find out about. She'd pushed it all away when she was little and grabbed hold of something that at the time of being a little girl was stronger - fairy tales. The Disney movies had helped with that.

"Dad..."

Phoenix breathed, tears rolling down her cheeks as she stood before him, naked in every sense of the word except physical appearance. She knew she had to say something. The first words the 'real her' as it were had ever said since was a girl but she found herself at a loss for words.

"W-what am I supposed to do?"

She asked quietly. What did she have if she cast aside her 'head-in-the-clouds' persona? The world had always overwhelmed her. She'd felt intimidated, been shy, and this had been a weakness to others. A weakness they hadn't failed to take advantage of. Then she heard of Luna Lovegood and met her, and realised there was a better way to keep the unpleasantness away so she'd taken Luna's example and submerged herself into flights of fancy that eventually bored others so much they turned to others to take advantage of.

She'd studied hard at Hogwarts during the classes, and sometimes outside of them if she was one hundred per cent sure she was alone but she'd never been obsessed over her education. She'd hated the exams infact. She'd done fairly well although it hadn't come anywhere near her mother's perfect record. She still had no idea of what she really wanted to do with her life as far as a job was concerned, and due to her isolated life (mostly self inflicted) she had no experience with boys as far as a romantic nature went, and then there was herself.

Phoenix for one insane moment considered if her mother would react any differently to her father but knew, no, she would have reacted the same if not worse.

Despite not really knowing who she was, Phoenix did know one thing - she wasn't a coward. She knew most would feel the urge to flee in this situation and with her wand so close it would be easy however she had no inclination to do so. Unfortunately the right thing to do in this situation made her feel slightly sick. Still, her parents had raised her well and she knew what proper manners and ettiquette required her to do.

"I'm sorry."

She said quietly, sniffing, before reluctantly heading out of the castle to stand infront of her Prince's... No, Sagiittario's family.

"I'm sorry for..." Phoenix flinched at the next word, "kidnapping your family member. I was... misguided. I shall not bother him or your family again. Please, is there anything I can do to make things up to you?"

Lucius wanted to wrap Phoenix up in his arms, to apologize athousand times over, assure her that she was perfect just the way she way, that every thing was all right. He wanted to fix the damage that he had delt to his baby girl. However this was one instance where Lucius Malfoy would not get what he wanted. Phoenix had to learn, and she had to grow up. It broke his heart to see how absolutely shattered his daughter was, but he knew there was nothing he could have done differently. He had done the right thing, no matter how much it had hurt Phoenix and himself. He wished Hermione had been there. She was better in these situations, more logical. Whilst they both loved their children more than life itself, Lucius had always had a hard time saying no to Phoenix, and now it had nearly resulted in an international incident.

"I'm proud of you."

He sighed as he watched Phoenix make her way out of the castle. He began following her a few steps behind, not wanting to be too close when she emerged, lest she retreat back to her broken shell, and try to hide behind him.

The D'Amore family did not notice Phoenix at first, as they had seen Sagittario circle the castle once and had found themselves relieved to know their son and brother was safe. They had been watching for him when Phoenix had addressed them. Overall, they seemed more relieved than anything. However, a great deal of hurt shown in Sylvana's eyes. Their mother did look angry though.

Before any of Sagittario's family could lash out, or any of Phoenix's family could react, the Veela in question bolted towards the group, faster than a snitch, before he grabbed hold of Phoenix. He did not tackle her to the ground, or carry her away, but he stood there, his Veela features in all their glory, holding Phoenix against his chest possessively, as though to protect her from the world.

"I still love you, my principessa. Always. But I need time to adjust to a new world and a new life. There are things on both sides that need be explained and discussed. That will take time, and I will need you to be patient with me."

He kept his voice low and soothing as he spoke, soothingly rubbing Phoenix's back both to keep her calm and to calm himself. Perhaps a dinner between his family and hers would be a good start to sorting this entire ordeal out.

Hermione wanted to rush over to her youngest and embrace her in the fiercest hug imaginable but Sagittario beat her to Phoenix's side. Instead, all she could do was walk over to her husband, tears in her eyes as she hugged her husband's arm to her chest. She hated seeing her little girl look so broken. The mother in her wanted to send Sagittario's family away and put the young man back in her little girl's castle just to see her little girl smile again. Logically and realistically she knew she shouldn't, couldn't, but logic held no sway when it came to a mother's love. She'd do anything for her children and it hurt that she couldn't do anything to make this better right now.

Phoenix wasn't sure what to feel in this moment. Actually, she didn't feel much right now but upset, unwanted, and terrified. Whilst Sagittario's confession of love was welcome and gave her some hope, the rest of his words did not. Time meant time to come up with excuses and schemes to leave her. Talking meant discussing just why Phoenix, in all her wierdness (like Luna's), whilst endearing wasn't right for any kind of relationship - friendship or more. No one ever stuck around but her family. Phoenix had accepted this at a young age. She liked her Disney movies. She liked dressing up as Disney princesses. She liked living in a world of her own that made her seem high on drugs to others. That was her. If others didn't like that then it was their problem not hers.

Perhaps she needed to do more research and see if there was a potion or spell that could fog the mind and give the heart control. After all if her prince really did love her then surely if his mind wasn't in control then he would come to her and they could have their happy ending.

"I have cheesecake."

Phoenix offered, considering what she could use to lure her prince back inside their castle. Maybe if she could keep her occupied she could find the potion or spell she needed and all this pain would be gone by this evening. She hadn't felt true pain before, not even feeling the pain from a bruised knee, and she really didn't like it. The ache in her chest was awful and she really didn't like how wet and blurry her eyes got nor how empty she felt. Still, every Disney princess had an obstacle to overcome and this was hers. She'd find the right spell or potion and she would make things right. She had to.
