“I cannot imagine the fear you must have lived in, I will only take three of your cubs, we are running a bit tight on space currently…”

He shifted between paws, almost as if trying to fight the urge to take all of them. The lioness he came with, Sylv, playfully nudged him out of the way, looking apologetically at Moogly.

“We will take these three, I hope we can come back and rescue more..”

Moogly nodded in response, smiling softly at the lion and lioness, "I only ask that you treat them better than our king has." The old denmother limped forward, giving each of the cubs a lick goodbye and a nudge for courage. SHe would miss them, of course, but it was better to miss them as they continued to live, rather than miss them at their graves.

Withered gently looks around the cave, her eyes scanning the cubs. Spotting one she believes will fit in her pride. She speaks up

"I believe this cub will fit well in my pride, I will make sure to keep her safe. When my pride has more room I will return and see if I can take more under my care."

Withered motions gently toward this cub.

"If she has any friends or siblings she wishes to bring along I'm sure we have enough room."

Moogly first sized up Withered, looking over the lioness and then glancing at the cub she had pointed at. The denmother nodded and smiled, padding over to the cub to give her a goodbye lick and help her move forward with a gentle nudge. The cub was obviously still frightened, but she did her best to be brave. When the two had closed the distance, the cub puffed up her chest and declared herself.

"I'll join your pride!" Her voice was a little squeaky and she shook slightly. Moogly let out a soft chuff at the interaction, happy at how it played out.

Cutter Kin-Seeker wanders into Coy's territory, eyebrows raised at the lions present in the open. 'So many mutations.' he thinks to himself. Coy catches him looking and tilts his head at the rival KIng, assessing if hes worth anything. After a few secons scruteny, he nods and resumes looking over his pride. 'Must have passed some sort of test' Cutter thinks to himself. He wanders around the territory, looking in caves and marveling at just how mant lions are present, theres even a few Liepons, and a Taigon! as he wanders he notices another den, this on further from the rest, almost hidden with a stench coming from within that he recognizes as rot.
He wanders over to the den and sticks his head inside, eyes widening at the number of cubs within. All of them are small, underfed and bony things. Some are plain and some are quite stunning, but one thing he notices is that they are all normal lions, no mutations in sight. There is one lone lioness, with two small cubs of her own. She looks beaten and battered, and just as skinny as the rest of the lions within this den.
Cutter enters the den on soft paws, trying to make as little noise as possible to not scare the cubs inside. He gently calls out to the denmother. "Hello? Denmother? What is this cave?" He asks softly, trying to quite his voice. He is large and loud, tho gentle at heart. He waits patiently for the denmother to notice him, sitting back on his haunches and trying to looks as unthretening as possible.

Moogly glances at the primal male at the entrance. She blinks once or twice, tilting her head. As she opens her mouth to speak, one of the older cubs beat her to it.

"It's where we come to die." The cub growls, barely able to hold up his own weight. The denmother does not correct this, but she looks crestfallen.

"This is my den, and I do my best to protect these cubs who are thrown here." She responds softly, the cub who had spoken up looks abashed, as if embarrassed that Moogly may have taken his statement as a slight against her.

"She, she really does." Another little one pipes up before coughing. Moogly forces herself to her paws, padding over to soothe the cub with her tongue. She looks back at the primal.

"Are you here to adopt? Coy Fish would not mind you taking cubs from right under his nose, you are abnormal, aren't you?" She says it kindly, with only a slight hint of a tease beneath her words.

Cutter gives this lioness ,Moogly, a small quiet laugh. "Im a mutant yes, one of a few in my pride, but abnormal?" He shrugs with a sad small grin, "Caring isnt abnormal." He looks around at the cubs, the small almost skeletal male, and the small coughing female, and so many others. "How many are we allowed to take from the den? What happens to the ones left behind?" He asks sadly. He has a feeling he knows what will happen to those that remain.

Moogly gets to her feet and motions for Cutter to follow her to a corner where they can speak without fear of the cubs listening in. She glances around, being sure that no one is eavesdropping on their conversation.

"Once they turn a year old, Coy Fish kills them." Her voice is barely audible, "You may take as many as you can care for- I ask only that you let me say goodbye before you do. Our king only lets those with abnormalities survive in the pride, and even then you best hope for a worthy mutation if you want a life of ease and respect." She shook a fly from off of one of her open wounds, wincing in pain again. "I have been doing my best to get them adopted, and trying to sneak them out before they turn into adols, but my health is failing and it is becoming harder and harder." She coughed herself, a wet sound that rattled in her ribcage.

Chalkpaws slowly begins to wander around the cave, taking in the devastating condition of the cave and the unkempt cubs scurried into a corner behind Moogly, eyes wide in fear. Two young lionesses seem to catch his eye and Chalkpaws let out a small sigh and glances towards Moogly.
In a comforting tone, He begins to speak. "I only have space for two but I promise to give them a better future than this place could ever dream of, these lionesses deserve better than this. You all deserve better than this."
Chalkpaws slowly looks across all of the suffering cubs and then glances at Moogly again, patiently waiting for a reply

Cutter looks at her stunned and a little ill. "Thats why there are so many muts out there, and so many regular cubs inside this den" he says softly. "Ill take two off your paws right now, and ill eventually come back for more of the males but ill need more space for them. I dont want to risk them getting run out of my own pride." he says, a determined expression setteling over his face.
He looks at those two cubs, the male and female who spoke up earlier.
The male is small, his pelt so close to the piebald female in his pride, but his colors are wrong and the pattern somehow missing something that makes all pied lions unique. Brown and grey and white instead of black, with eyes as wellow as the sun. The vitrol in his voice as he spoke, barley able to hold his head up as he spit those words made Cutters heart ache. 'He would be a stong protector when grown, an asset to the territory ' Cutter thinks to himself.

The little female with the rattle in her chest, all pink eyes and creamy white fur and stark potruding bones, whos small body houses more courage than she knows what to do with looks at him from across the cave. He looks at her and smiles a small gentle smile, hopingto put her at ease. 'She seems sweet, like she would do well as denmother in my pride, maybe she would like to apprentice to one of them' He wonders.

He smiles at Moogly and stands walking softly over to the male cub, laying down in front of him. "You were quite brave to speak up as you did, not knowing who i was or what would happen to you. How would you like to come join my pride? There are other cubs there, and plenty of food, and other males other than myself that you could learn from. You could become brave and strong and able to protect the lions in your pride the way others should have protected you." Cutter says to the cub, giving him a stern look and a hopeful smile. "Please think about it, ill be in the cave for a while yet, speaking to other cubs. You can call for me when you have made a decision, but please think about it."
Cutter stands slowly, leaning forward and giving the cub a soft snuffle against his head as he turns toward the little female. He walks to the other cub, slowing his steps as he sees her flinch and cough. He frowns at the sound. 'She is very sick, I hope my pride can help her.' he thinks gazing softly at the cub. Cutter lowers himself to his belly and crawls forward slowly. "Hello little one," he says softly, "You were very brave earlier, speaking up as you did, defending your denmother. How would you like to come home with me? There are other cubs, and plenty to eat. We could even help you get rid of that cough of yours. And most importantly we can protect you." he smiles at her, his large head resting on his paws. " Please think about it. Your denmother wants you to be safe, and so do i. Ill be over speaking to Moogly, you can call for me when you have made a decision, but please think about it." Cutter stands slowly as to not spook the little female and gives the top of her head a small lick. he can taste the dirt on his tounge as he turns back to Mooglys direction.
Cutter pads over to the denmother, smiling sadly. "I gave them the option to choose. The rest is up to them, tho i hope they will choose to come home with me. You have done a wonderful job with what little you have, and many of these cubs wouldnt even be alive if it werent for you. Regardless if those two cubs chose to come with me or not ill try and support you when i can, even if its just getting another cub to somewhere safer." He leans over and gently buts his head gainst hers, trying to avoid causing her anymore pain from the wounds and old scars on her face. He settles down at her feet, sprawled on his belly and watching the cubs think, "And now we wait."

Moogly sizes up the lion before slowly getting to her feet with a grimace. She limps over to the cubs and looks down on them lovingly. The old lioness looks at Chalkpaws again, she can sense the truth behind his words and heaves a sigh. Her whole body seems weary, as if it wishes to sleep.

"They truly do." She responds to Chalkpaws and gives each cub a lick and a nudge in farewell. She follows them to the cave opening, watching fearfully to make sure they escape before Coy Fish can see them.
