I came back to Lioden after one of my several month hiatuses as is my normal routine and what I've seen has left me confused and distraught.

Cubs. So many cubs. TOO many cubs. Literal legions of cubs huddled under this godforsaken tree, waiting to be taken away. But for every cub taken, dozens more take its place.

I've been playing Lioden almost since it came out and in all my time playing this game, I do not remember a single moment in this game's history where the giving tree could hold onto cubs for more than an hour. This backlog is unprecedented, and what's more, what people are leaving there, and the low prices people are now charging for high tier marked and mutated lions, are showing something even more insidious.

I've discussed with people in the chat how insane the giving tree currently is. I just received a female adolescent with a squeaky clean heritage and TWO Tier 6 markings. Another player pointed out that they had gotten an adolescent female with a patched mutation and entirely clean heritage.

These are lions that should be worth hundreds, if not thousands of silver beetles. And people are tossing them into the tree like they're some regular two tier one marking cubs from an NCL. Meanwhile those trying to sell similar lions in the Trading Center, those priced for what these mutations or markings should be worth aren't selling, and people are undercutting by as low as a fourth of those prices.

I don't wish to fearmonger but I think the game may finally be at its breaking point. I think we finally, simply, just have too many lions. If we're at the point that people are treeing mutations and some of the most expensive markings in the game, and so few cubs are being taken that we now have a backlog of LITERALLY THOUSANDS, we've surpassed critical mass on lions, meaning their value has tanked to nothing, which means the entire website's economy could follow soon after since the entire economy is based on the breeding, trading, and studding of lions.

Some folks look down on chasing cubs? That's crazy. I munch on em when I don't want them, even when they're still being nursed sometimes. Dealing with the TC and putting up cubs one by one takes too much of my finite time.

I haven’t seen enough people mentioning why people (like me) abandon cubs rather than reserving of killing them. For me, I don’t care enough about karma to make the energy loss worth it. I would use the nature reserve or kill options a LOT more if they didn’t cost energy.

It’s also largely about sentiment for me. I’ll definitely chase the super potato cubs, but if I think a cub is cute (but I don’t have space for it), I’m going to tree it, not kill it.

They don't cost energy if you have the personality to fit them, for example evil

You can also chase 'em, which is karma neutral and doesn't cost energy. Chased cubs are deleted so you aren't putting potatoes in the chased NCL pool like you are when you chase standard NCLs, so there's no downsides to doing it to fodder cubs that don't sell.

I feel like a good portion of the tree cubs are from players who feel sentiment towards their pixel lions, and tree them instead of chase/kill. You do you, but at some point it becomes too much.

A very large portion of tree cubs are from people who give directly quoted accounts based on how they feel that 'someone's trash is another's treasure' because when you're new typically you find most cubs absolutely amazing until you realise they're actually shit in this economy. While it's got a good intention, the thought is more harmful than not; especially when they're applying it to basic ass potatoes.

i completely understand balancing the tree with potatoes, but when you're main drop is really shit lions it's not helpful, its harmful and some users need to understand that. I get some people dont get good cubs and just want to be apart of the fun, but use the giveaway chat for dens full of potatoes, as you never know! Personally i tend to find the markings i want most in potatoes, which are hard to come by especially and half the time the newbie has no idea!

I will always suggest chasing potato cubs, or simply just letting them die on their own. I emphathise with the attachment, but it's not fair on our community because you cant allow one lion to go to the nature reserve, or chase them and imagine "oh hey, they're going to find their forever pride!"; you know, a fun little gimmick without looking too hard into it.

Agreed here. Today I just pulled out a CINNABAR BASED cub from the tree with pretty decent markings as well-
