I'm not... sure if this goes here? But!

I've encountered a maybe concerning amount of people who seem to still be under the impression that color and shade base genetics impact the passing of a special base when it's since been updated to flat rates as of June 2022. I don't mean to be condescending; I want to help curb the spreading of misinfo and help people better understand this aspect of breeding so money and effort aren't wasted on something that actually doesn't help!

Here is the developer post speaking about it transparently!

... and we have refactored a part of the coding to make sure that Specials now get a separate roll on top of the normal base rolls to ensure their rates are fixed, regardless of genetics.

It is also stated on the wiki's genetics page!

It's worth clarifying that colour group, gradient, and shade crossings do not affect Special rates.

A special x special has 4% chance to pass a special base—a 2% chance for each of the two bases. However, when paired with a combo base, if the other special base isn't a factor, it still has a 4% chance to pass the non-combo base.

Elysian x Interstellar, a Special combo base and a Special base, will produce one Special, Interstellar, when bred to each other, at the same rate as Special x Special (4% pass rate for Interstellar) due to Elysian's Special rarity.

Rare/uncommon x special will pass the special at a 2% rate.

Common x special will pass the special at a 1% rate.

So in summary, there's a 2% of a special base passing (with rare/uncommon) and that is unaffected by genetics even if there are reduced/increased possible base outcomes? Is that right?

If I'm understanding what you're saying, yes! The genetics limit the pool to desirable fail bases (rares, uncommons, commons), but have no impact on the special passing—that is a flat rate of 2% when paired with a rare or uncommon.

Oh no 😭 I'm sorry. There are probably a lot of little things like this that, even on the wiki etc., we still miss, and if you weren't able to read the news post about it when it came out, it might've flown under the radar.

I see this too! Especially with mutations.

Like just because one of the parents was a mutie, doesn't mean the child carries some mutation gene.
