Event UpdatesMantis ShopWe did a small shop update. One of the retired Advent Calendar sets is now available to purchase in Tier 3 of the Mantis Shop. We have also added a very cool Snowy Desert background to enrich this update with a unique colour palette!
New Combo Base: EskerWe are giving you a new base to breed, starting at midnight on December 9th (12am Lioden time).The main requirement for this base is that it can be bred during Wet Season only (the parents must breed during Wet Season, the cub does not need to be born during Wet Season!).
Factor 1: Esker, Ragdoll, Reindeer Factor 2: Esker, Arctic, Aufeis, Glacial, Ice Like any combo base, to get it you must meet the requirements and breed a Factor 1 base to a Factor 2 base. The genetics for Esker are Cream Medium Countershaded Special and it is tied to Blue skin. Winter Breeding ChallengeThis challenge is repeated from last year, so if you already know it from 2019, 2020, 2021, and 2022, you can skip ahead to the new rewards! :DAll the albino love this month has inspired us to create a community challenge with extra personal goals to achieve! We give you the Albino Cub Challenge!  Community Goal: breed 2000 total Albino cubs! Personal Goal: breed 3 Albino cubs!The challenge begins at midnight on December 11th (12am Lioden time)! Where can I access the information about this challenge? The Gorilla Enclave will provide all information, as well as an extra small area on the sidebar panel on your layout! We also have an Albino Cub Challenge wiki page dedicated to this challenge.
What are the rewards? Community Rewards: 5% chance for a Snowflake-based cub to be born to Albino x any parent, 5% chance for a Hoarfrost-based cub to be born to Interstellar x any parent, 5% chance for a Rime-based cub to be born to Orchid x any parent, and 5% chance for an Esker-based cub to be born to Reindeer x any parent for the rest of December when the 2000 Albino cub goal is hit! The Gorilla Enclave will also ask for more Albino-based cubs for their quests. Personal Rewards: A special title ("Special Snowflake"), the "Albino Cub Challenge" achievement, a background and mutated Albino Cub decor based on your king's karma at the time of completing the 3 Albino cub goal, a Sculpted Ice Armour decor set, an Albino Dwarf Cub decor, a Hoarfrost Markings applicator, a Rime Markings applicator, and an Esker Markings applicator!  What is the time limit? The challenge and its in-game rewards end on December 31st 11:59pm Lioden time. The sooner you guys complete the goal, the longer you can enjoy the in-game rewards, as the 5% chance for a combo-based cub to be born to Reindeer + any parent pairing expires on December 31st 11:59pm Lioden time! This means that the only way to breed the Snowflake, Hoarfrost, Rime, and Esker bases after the challenge ends is to breed their factor bases together during wet season, or additionally, day or night time. Of course, the achievement and title you receive are permanent! The background items you receive will also last until their uses are gone, as with all other backgrounds and decors. Will this repeat next year? Yes! We will add or replace rewards, change combo bases, etc., but we think the Snowflake base will always be its core, and we may add something fresh as an extra every year. What are the background rewards? You will only receive one background for completing the personal goal, and the background you receive depends upon the karma your king has at the time that you claim your rewards!
There's also a universal personal reward set, regardless of your pride leader's karma.
What are the karma thresholds for receiving backgrounds? The karma thresholds are the same for these backgrounds as they are for your eyes changing in Explore. New Raffle-Exclusive Base!It's been a long while since we've added a raffle-exclusive base! It's a bit toned down, like Lilac, but natural in colour. The name and design comes from the infraorder of even-toed hoofed horn-bearers! You can try your luck with the first Pecora release from today's raffle lioness!
The genetics for Pecora are Cream Medium Countershaded Special and it is tied to Dark skin.
Quality of Life Updates* Added training status to replace hunger for grown beetles in the Mound overviews * Added hunger/training status to Unsorted Beetles * Sub navigation of the Battle Beetles has been streamlined and unified across the pages * Feeding cubs to 100% gives a small survival bar boost (2 - 5%) * In the Cub Sex Changer item menu, the current sex of the cub (M or F) is listed beside their name * Browse your customised "Recent Activity" and "Recent Topics" feed, up to 500 most recent topics displayed in each * Den descriptions can now be viewed on mobile * Minor tweak to the "aging up" notice on Den page to be clearer * Crafting has gained a couple of new filters: — You can now hide recipes that are unavailable due to event crafting (they will still show up if the current event matches but a higher tier is needed to craft) — You can now filter by the crafted item type, options being "Show All", "Applicators", "Backgrounds", "Decorations" Gifting CaveSeveral members expressed their desire to send gifts to the Lioden Moderators over the December event. Unfortunately due to the anonymous nature of the moderators, this isn't easy to do.The Gifting Cave now allows you to gift moderators. This is completely voluntary and not expected, but it is available for those of you who want to gift a little something special to the mods. None of the gifts will go to the admins, as they are publicly known. This is a bit experimental this year, it will return next year if it's successful - or we may have some tweaks. Currency will be divided in a weighted ratio amongst trainees and longer term moderators, and will be as even as possible. Any currency that remains and cannot be distributed evenly will be stored to be gifted the following year. Items will be distributed as evenly as possible by item category, and again, any remainders will be saved for the following year. Taking part in the Gifting Cave does not contribute towards the event bar, but does contribute towards your personal goals (number of gifts given, the 888 gifts challenge). You cannot poop on the mods (booo!). Custom decors are also excluded from the Gifting Cave.

I kind of took a step back and thought about what unfolded in this Thread over the past 24-ish hours. Thinking about how this isn't the first scenario where the Admins say that there is going to be something new, and then they drop what they were going to do without a word to the community. Getting news that something is going to get delayed/canceled through someone asking in the comments rather than reading a bullet in the Thread really frustrated me. Sure, I would have still been disappointed about not getting the new base pack, but I appreciate knowing than sitting in unknowing silence. I'm thinking, how long until we would have known that the base pack got canceled without my partner asking? Would we have even been notified in any way? Not trying to be rude in any way, but things like this seriously have me thinking about taking a hiatus/quitting Lioden. Not only that, but m and my partner have been participating in Black Friday since 2018, and this year was the first year where we didn't participate due to us questioning the integrity of the game, and the Staff's lack of communication, and poorly trained Mods. I really don't want it to come down to that, but I'm really tired of setting up myself for disappointment when stuff that was proposed just gets dropped without a word. I also don't want to get falsely reported/chased away from the game. I'm also curious to know why people would be against a bo base pack, too?  Believe it or not, but a lot of the community is into breed-only attributes, so it isn't just catering to a "small group" of people. Whether you're breeding for a Scoundrel base and slapping on applicators for its looks, or you are breeding a 15/15 full bo-lion, it's still breed-only either way. I'm just genuinely confused on who would even be against new bases in the first place?? To each their own, I guess...Not once did I see any negative feed back about the bo base packs. Yesterday night in the chat, people were still excited about the base pack after Jester brought it back up. Sure, there was negative feedback about the Gorilla Enclave markings, but not that I seen about the bo base pack. I know I sound like a broken record, but I'm genuinely trying to wrap my head around on why people just would not want more bo bases not only to breed for, but to balance out the awful genetics pool? (This might be sloppily put together at work, but I kind of felt like my frustrations should have been heard, too. I'm with a lot of people on this topic.)  17 players like this post! Like? |

I definitely feel like it should have been polled, because even in chat I saw nothing but positivity regarding new uncommons and rares at the expense of new specials. Sure, we didn't want ANY new bases, but since staff are determined to give them, we want uncommons and rares to be what they get. I think Lioden grossly misuses its poll function, sometimes, in all honesty. We could have polls about future development, such as if we want more specials, if we want uncommons/rares, if we want a pause on all bases to catch up with Male Pose, things that actually matter and improve the state of the game. At least then you could point towards that and see "well the community decided this" to shut us vet players up when something we don't like wins the poll, if it does. The decision to cancel the base pack should have been polled, it feels like you guys saw negative feedback at first and then just never listened to any time main chat was talking about how excited they were for new uncommons and rares. Everyone was hesitant on the base pack until it was revealed that it would be uncommon and (assumingly) rares, because we didn't want the special ratio to get even more insane. By canceling the base pack, something necessary for the health of the game, for keeping Special Bases special, you paused BO bases in dev updates for no reason. You took away our main source of content for months, something that's already scarce as is outside of certain events, and now, BO breeding is one of the top trends on Lioden. Breed Only Beauties is the largest BO clan and has 9.5k members, beating clans for previous insanely popular trends like Dwarf Breeding, Clean Breeding, Rosette Breeding, hell, BOB has more members than Mutie Mayhem! And you can't even go a page on TC now without seeing "BO Traits". It is unbelievably out of touch to say "well that's a small community" as if the BO community is half as small as it was back in 2020. Sure, it may not be a majority of players nowadays, but it's gotten to the point where if you ask for picking an heir in main chat, the most important traits people look for are BO traits, and after the disaster Black Friday 2022 wrecked on the mutation economy, it's more important than having mutations on your studs! Even worse is that the 2021 mods were left out of that and NO ONE TOLD US until this year. How grossly unfair is that that we weren't even notified that it was a mistake that would be corrected in the next year? Myself and many others sat on 2022 MoDs assuming they wouldn't be in the pool this year because absolutely no one told us last year had a glaring mistake despite it being asked about in main chat when it happened when an admin was THERE and the admin just didn't answer. The utter lack of transparency is frankly embarrassing. Imagine if Baldur's Gate 3, a game you guys seem to love, just passed its release date and then the next day (or years later, if we're going off of Male Pose and the Recode) just said "Oh, yeah, we're not done. Here's an early dev build to preview. By the way, we canned half of the customization." Like I said in a reply earlier, I feel so incredibly vindicated on my decision not to spend money on this Black Friday or future Black Fridays until the health of the game is prioritized over pushing out dev update content that will be forgotten in weeks. I'd rather us only get a dev update every few months but have it be significant, like Wolvden is, than one every month with "btw guys here's a new base and markings!!! new stuff guys!!! we took yet another BO color and made it app to confuse you even more because we don't know BO is popular and our sorting system makes so little sense entire guides have to be written for people to understand it! but new shinies!" Meanwhile we have bases like Shard and Jellyfish in the same genetics group because you stopped making bases that fit in our current groups years ago, we have BO content being released broken that seemingly had zero testing, for about half of the year new apps would be unlocked in a non functional state, and players have lost all faith in your ability to do things in not only a timely manner, but having a functional release as well. And while I sympathize to you guys for having to work on one of the biggest breeding sims ever, with a large community, that sympathy is worn thin when you announce things like Primal Fatalis, Jaglions, and more when you're still working on things that were promised to come out in 2021 at the latest. It's like you guys discuss an idea once and announce it as coming soon when it hasn't even made it past a concept stage. And I'm being very generous on my definition of a concept state here, too, by that I mean you guys go "that would be cool" in a meeting once and decide to announce it. And the worst part is your takeaway is that your biggest mistake is giving a deadline, rather than not being clear with players when the original deadline became obviously impossible. We don't care that you had to delay something! Really, we don't. We care that you didn't tell us outright and we had to ask to get any information about the fact the deadline was missed for whatever reason. I don't care if the reason is something trivial, like "Xylax isn't feeling it", I just want to know, and that goes for many other players, as well. Oh, and to add on, let players know when you decide to delay or cancel something, or at least in the next newspost. Don't say on the last possible dev update in the comments that "we pushed it back". Imagine how different main chat might view the male pose if we had been told in mid 2021 that it wasn't coming that year and would be pushed back for the foreseeable future instead of told that no work had been done on it since it was a concept sketch in 2018... in 2023... 23 players like this post!
