-LOCKED - Leopard Tail Clarification
Posted on 2024-03-12 16:04:37
As Tier 3 of the Black Market is close to unlocking, we are releasing clarification on the mechanics of the Leopard Tail item as promised!

* Each use of a Leopard Tail in one breeding will add a 5% chance to a rosette rolling if the normal criteria for rosettes are met (any breeding can be eligible for a spontaneous rosette, but certain rosette types have certain specific criteria)
* Leopard Tails can be applied to both parents and the effects will stack, so there will be a 10% boosted chance in the next breeding if applied to both parents
* The boosted chance applies to all types of rosettes
* The chance rolls for each cub in the litter
* Leopard Tail is compatible with Ochre Powder and the items can be used together in one breeding, but Ochre Powder will not affect the chance of a rosette showing in itself
* The item does not increase the pass rate of the parents' existing rosettes

@Rin
No, it doesn't work on existing rosettes, it says it on the last line

Aight so after reading through the replies, I can finally give a take on this. This might actually be kinda fun to play around with and test combinations with different markings and factors to determine which criteria is needed for certain rosettes. Though I do kind of agree that it might be better if they could at least clarify which rosettes do not have any specific criteria, but I get it if they want that discovery to be a community effort since that would narrow the choices down pretty significantly and end up giving a little too much of a hint. I definitely get adding an experimentation element to the game.

Regarding another argument that was in this thread previously, let's preferably not compare dissatisfaction with company decisions to abuse. That's kind of shitty for abuse victims to hear their experiences being compared to people just having reasonable concerns regarding a product (game item in this case) or having questions about it.

Fr that one had me flabbergasted 😭 I guess they were trying to say that the community always complaining about staff decisions is the equivalent of an abuser never being happy with anything the victim does, but like, that doesn't apply when it comes to dissatisfaction with products/services tho.

Spent like 30 minutes reading through all the comments. I say spent, not wasted, because I did actually learn some valuable stuff.

I have not been playing for a while (a little more than a year), so I am by no means a veteran player. Heck, I still don't even know how to use gnawrocks or lion meat or whatever. I didn't even learn about tree drops until last week! I found it every interesting to learn about the dropping value of rosettes in the market. Of course that's somewhat expected with certain things (eg. certain bases that were once hard to get, but then slowly as more and more people got them, the price dropped).

I honestly find reading comments on news posts or forum topics quite hilarious, except I wouldn't say that about this one (as per the comment that came up earlier, in which I wholly agree with Jewel Wildmoon (#127341) about how two things that shouldn't have been compared were). Apart from that, I do really understand why so many people are frustrated.

Personally, I have never, and will never, spend money on this game. I love it. Probably too much. And of course I'd love to support the devs. But then they also do something like this. Perhaps they didn't think it would get this much backlash, or maybe they just don't want to reveal the criteria and drop the rosette market further. However, I can totally see from the point of view of players who have either spent money, OR lots of time/effort, how this news post is kind of a one step forward five steps back kind of thing.

On one hand, it's kind of cool there is a new item. And, from what I've read, it was suggested by the community? So it kind of feels a little ungrateful for something that people asked for, to be hated on. But then also you think about how 'unfair' the item is. I definitely think if the devs added some clarification on the criteria, or (as some user suggested a bit before) make it into a competition. Otherwise, I can't see many "experienced" players buying the leopard tails. And if that is the case, then, in this instance, let's just say the criteria is idk a specific marking-combo or like a certain marking two generations back (idk), then it's HIGHLY unlikely just "random" players will be able to achieve the criteria. Meaning... this item is rather useless-

I think it's important for the community to be able to voice their opinions, just hopefully in a kind and respectful way. But anyways, that's just my opinion, so feel free to disagree, I'm going on hiatus anyways (unrelated) sooo bai

TBH, I see the same issue here as with many other things - many people are misunderstanding the purpose of this item. Both people who are upset it can ruin the market and people who think its not clear enough with secret criteria.

Guys, Leopard Tails are just a fun, gimmick item that is only meant to be used as a way to spice breedings up, NOT to guarantee you getting rosettes. Its not meant to be a realiable breeding item like gnawrock, nor it is meant to be an expensive gambling item like Crunchy Worm. That's why its SO CHEAP in the shop. Its just a little thing to throw into a breeding for FUN. It can fail, and it often does, or it can give you a nice rosette on a cool cub - I got one on a combo!

I personally have bought a ton of Leopard Tails, but I dont do complex calculations or anything like that. I just use them on any "good" breedings I do for that extra chance, that an otherwise potato cub, will not be quite as potato, and sometimes it fails, sometimes it gives treasures! The Leopard Tail was never meant to be a reliable breeding item meant to guarantee you rosettes, and it isnt one. Its a fun little thing to throw into the pot for an extra chance of a shiny "good" cub to be born, and it costs low to reflect that. I dont think something so random and unpredictable can ruin any market, simply because the results are SO random you cannot really "overbreed" it.

Sure it would be nice if we knew the actual criteria, but TBH, I am enjoying this item anyway. As a fun little thing to throw into the breeding for an extra chance of something good, it works just fine! And it costs accordingly.

At least part of the upset about the item was because we didn't know how much RB Leopard Tails would cost until Tier 3 opened. I don't remember if it was in this thread or elsewhere, but I saw people guessing the item would cost anywhere from 100-200 RB and didn't want to use so much on an item without clear parameters.

But, like you said, it turned out to be a cheaper item and I think its utility makes sense for 55 RB (even though I wish the devs would release more information about rosettes). I've bought a few to sell and a few to keep and use at a later date.
